20th December 2020 at 5:05 pm #172546You canβt really blame people who were visiting family (which should be a basic human right) given the short notice of the lockdown – it compressed the window available to leave London.

20th December 2020 at 5:29 pm #172549Still irresponsible Mikus and we’re not dealing in normal circumstances where you can quote basic human rights we’re in the middle of a deadly pandemic that has killed over 60,000 in the UK already and has just got even worse!
But I blame the Government they should have shut Christmas down last week if not before imo.

20th December 2020 at 5:59 pm #172552There is more balanced analysis on all this, but you won’t find it in the mainstream media which contains a lot of hysteria.

20th December 2020 at 6:09 pm #172557Nine, I think you’re right mate. It’s the timing that’s caused people to go into Panic mode. Looks as though the Government to a degree have been toying with the minds of the public.

20th December 2020 at 6:13 pm #172559It’s out of date though Mikus and makes no mention of the new Covid strain which has caused the Government to reel in Christmas.

20th December 2020 at 6:16 pm #172560Well Carl Heneghen, professor of evidence based medicine at Oxford university is asking where the evidence is that the new variant is β70% more transmissible than the old oneβ. As has commonly has happened this year, the government is being led by panic not evidence.

20th December 2020 at 6:22 pm #172562Nil, I get why the Government tried to maintain Christmas but it was too optimistic and imo they should have reeled in Christmas earlier.
We pulled out of our Family Christmas a week ago.
In fairness to the Government this new more viriliant strain of Covid only popped up recently but opening up Christmas as they intended was always a massive risk and likely to lead to an upsurge in Covid cases.
I hope people are sensible now and have a stay at home Christmas and we don’t see any stupidity on New Year’s Eve.

20th December 2020 at 6:31 pm #172567“The World Health Organization (WHO) has said it is in “close contact” with UK officials over the emergence of a new variant of coronavirus.
The new variant is spreading more rapidly than the original version, but it is not believed to be more deadly.
Along with the UK, the same mutation of the Covid-19 virus has also been detected in the Netherlands, Denmark and Australia, the WHO told the BBC.”

20th December 2020 at 7:19 pm #172568Anonymous999. The new strain is a lie to coerce you into certain behaviours. Why do you still trust a government that’s has lied at every stage of every conciveable possible turn during covid?
They’ve invented a new tier and tbh given the lack of power on police/ people on streets, it’s no wonder the virus has ripped through uk.
In turkey during the first lockdown everywhere was busy when it was announced and the govt learned very quickly not to impose a curfew without five days to prepare.
The tier system is unworkable, everything remains open, people all over shops today in West Sussex and Surrey.
It’s a nonsense. Most of this who will have died have died hence why we’re not seeing death rates up.
You’re being lied to by incompetent buffoons

20th December 2020 at 7:46 pm #172570Hightown…I have to admit I am not a fan of the BBC but even there own Director admits he has to sort out the problems the Corpoation has with its reporting. It never used to be like it is now, mostly I have switched Channels, a few programmes I would find it hard to break away from at the moment but there are always alternatives and that is a good thing

20th December 2020 at 9:10 pm #172581We’re Audited Internally and Externally at Work (just to add some Context).
Gods Honest Truth: Masks have to be worn working 7-8 hours, physical work involved at times and heavy lifting. This is the Truth. I’ve honestly been through this and now comfortable and good in handling my breathing.
Extremely Grateful in Context to be Employed and in Work. We’re placed in a Tier that’s been of High Risk in the Rate Of Cases.
I really don’t understand coerced behaviour. London Naturally is The Capital City Upholding a Volume in Population taking into the equation the surrounding areas, E.g. Kent.

20th December 2020 at 9:59 pm #172586Nil, good on you mate I know how tough it is to wear that mask for any length of time through my visits to the hospital sometimes for up to 6 hours. Wearing it everyday all day at work doing physical work and heavy lifting. Hats off to you buddie.
