Bit of hope for the Pool fans, a 65 day shut down would take us through to the middle of May, players contracts run until the 30th of June, that in theory would give 5 to 6 weeks to complete the fixtures. Of course thereβs a lot more to it than that, but if thereβs a will from all the teams to complete the league then there is still a glimmer of hope…..Pagan

13th March 2020 at 9:56 am #85307AnonymousWell, UEFA are said to be open to moving the Euros to 2021, that would give us a chance to finish the PL, although not ideal, it’s better than nothing. It would give the likes of Atalanta a chance to go further in the CL too.

13th March 2020 at 10:00 am #85308Waspy-Nobody actually knows whats happening in China. Here @ the WHO we were initially told/thought that the incubation time of the virus was only 30 days-we were completely wrong as nobody knows really the exact time.Just imagine,in a city with millions of people, how many have been in contact with other people during that intial period of 30 days, then think of how many of the others have been in contact with other people from other areas of the country, families visiting, friends, people travelling, etc, etc, and you reach a time when you lose count of the possible number of people being potentially infected. All this in a country of 1.4bn people, bordering another country of 1.2bn in India.

13th March 2020 at 10:45 am #85311hudson odioi has it and is isolation but “over it” so most of the london teams now affected, doubt arsenal can field a team or manager so our games are postponed, really do think this will be the season that never was, feel for the pool fans and also have a good mate who is a leeds fan who is steaming, its all unfair but what can you do with an “act of god”….

13th March 2020 at 11:32 am #85339All elite football in England has been suspended until at least 3 April as a result of the spread of coronavirus.
“All Premier League games, EFL fixtures and matches in the FA Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship have been postponed.
The Premier League said action would resume on 4 April “subject to medical advice and conditions at the time”.
The Football Association said England’s games against Italy on 27 March and Denmark four days later are off.
The EFL, which hopes to resume play a day earlier, said clubs were also advised to suspend “non-essential activities” such as “player appearances, training ground visits and fan meetings”. BBC Football.
The key words here are “at least 3 April ” and “action would resume on 4 April subject to medical advice and conditions at the time”. Personally I doubt this season will be completed.
UEFA have postponed all next week’s CL and EL games and it’s only a matter of time before both competitions are suspended. The Euros will probably be postponed until 2021.

13th March 2020 at 11:38 am #85347“But the hope is that next week a decision is taken to postpone Euro2020 for a year, thereby freeing up space in the calendar to re-schedule outstanding matches and complete domestic league seasons across the continent at some stage.”

13th March 2020 at 11:42 am #85350Just cant see the season finishing.
Rightly or otherwise, the tactic is to spread the virus over a longer period into the summer avoiding a peak.
No chance, on this basis resuming in 3 weeks._____________________________

13th March 2020 at 11:52 am #85358threeps, not sure who you’re quoting but if they postpone Euro 2020 it will probably be because it’s too dangerous to hold it and the same will apply elsewhere.
The only thing we can currently be certain about is total uncertainty.

13th March 2020 at 11:56 am #85361Nine, it’s the BBC Sports Editor. Yes I’m sure the main reason is because of the virus spread but it could also provide a solution, depending on the individual country’s status versus that of the very spread out Euros.

13th March 2020 at 11:59 am #85364Henry Winter
Chief Football Writer for the Times on BBC Radio 5 Live
“There are some clubs that will have serious problems. This idea that on 3 April the sirens stop and we go back and play football again is just naive.
What the medical advisers are saying is this is a long period – possibly 12-14 weeks. The date of 3 April has just been come up with and then they will think again.
I wouldn’t be surprised if English football is playing in June. Obviously the Euros would have to be put back a year, then it’s just a question of the sporting integrity of football as to when league programmes are finished.
Take for example West Bromwich Albion. They are fighting to get back in the Premier League. If West Brom go up, that’s worth a minimum of Β£20m in television money alone.
The Premier League and EFL need to show leadership – which they should’ve done earlier in the week – to go through and work out how they can reach a conclusion to the season, but the obvious casualty of that is Euro 2020.”

13th March 2020 at 12:01 pm #85367threeps, it could provide a solution but I think it’s unlikely that if they cancel the Euros domestic football will be given a clean bill of health to continue.
It’s very difficult to second guess any of this currently the main objective has to be to get this terrible virus under control no matter what impact it has on sport etc.

13th March 2020 at 12:24 pm #85379AnonymousAll this is work in progress. It is absolutely the right decision. It’s just going to cause a massive fixture pile up…
I think we all know the first manager to moan about the subsequent fixture pile up. Names on a postcard… π

13th March 2020 at 12:35 pm #85385Interestingly, if they did pick it up again in the summer, clubs would be able to add to their squads from 1st June which opens up a huge can of worms
