We also hear the usual cry on such events “it is only a minority” well the minority is trying to dominate the majority through fear. One day the majority will wake up This has little to do with events in the USA that has just been a trigger point. The simple fact is, no matter who you are, people have to obey the law. There is no plan B

9th June 2020 at 10:46 am #113846I am not a racist and I do not think this country at large is racist but I am getting annoyed at being part of a branding the everything “whites” do or have done is racist. If they continue to take this route at some point there will be a stop to this. The statues and mass demonstration was a demonstration on just how stupid this was. Is it happening in Spain, after all they conquered S,America and well into the USA now. What about the Dutch, belgium Germans are they haveing same problem. How far do we want to go back The Romans, Ghenis Kahn??? We have what we have to day, if you want to make it better…work for it Also not forget two world wars that people gave there lives for for everyones freedom, that appears to be brushed aside. I fear that this arising could be counter productive and somebody needs to get a grip, least of all our Police Force to uphold the Law and for all to fully support them. Without a strong and effective force we have anarchy at the present rate.I no longer accept the common terminology “well, it only a minority” if you look at the figures it is far from a minority anymore. I did listen to Raheem Sterling on Newsnight, I think he was out of his depth and news night was kind to him. I am not saying his ideas were wrong but how he responded was if he was not prepared.
Nine, I know this is a football forum and we are all suffering from the lack of our sport and the lockdown but I will withdraw from future political subjects now on this because I sense a danger to the forum. I hope we can develop some other topics though

9th June 2020 at 11:05 am #113847Brian, I always enjoy reading your posts and whatever the subject they are always well thought out and well balanced and your life’s experiences shine through.
This is a great football site with a very decent bunch of lads and you’re an integral part of that and the forum imo is all he better for having you. Cheers 9’s

9th June 2020 at 3:15 pm #113857Nine..thanks..I always try and give a pragmatic view but never want to sit on a fence in doing so therefore I hope any content will mirror this as well. As to the Forum, I have mentioned before that this is has improved significantly, yes always banter, that should not be lost but I think the level of comment now is more thoughtful and reasoned. Long may it continue. Nine, I am just opting out of the Racism bit because I have said enough on the subject and want to discuss other things in the future. Take care everyone

12th June 2020 at 10:00 pm #114905Any need to be concerned about the r number rising in the uk lads?
Numbers are still so high in the uk

13th June 2020 at 8:21 am #115411Sean, “Official figures indicate the rate – known as the R number – is between 0.8 and 1.0 across the whole of England.
This range is slightly higher than for the entire UK, where it remains between 0.7 and 0.9.
As people start to move around more there will inevitably be more opportunity for the virus to spread
But in the southwest of England, the Government Office for Science said it was between 0.8 and 1.1. The group said the most likely estimate was in the middle of the range.”
I believe the R rate in Ireland is also between 0.7 and 0.9?
Ireland’s population is 4.9 m versus for instance a population in London alone of just over 9m making it a much more difficult task in the UK to control the virus but we’ve made mistakes too.
Deaths from Corona virus in the UK on Friday were 202 still far too high but the lowest Friday for 12 weeks Corona virus cases for the UK on Friday were just over 1,500 still far too high and that is the key figure to bring down in order to reduce the deaths.
The increase of the R rate in the South West is probably down to the good weather and people foolishly flocking to beaches and not maintaining social distancing and there is an added problem in the UK of all the demonstrations currently taking place with thousands marching and gathering with little to no social distancing.
Personally I’m concerned that we may be lifting the lockdown rules too early which may cause the R rate to increase as may the run of demonstrations, the weather is currently reducing the numbers visiting the beaches.
We’ve got a long way to go still in the UK Sean but here’s hoping for both for ourselves and Ireland etc. Cheers 9’s

13th June 2020 at 9:30 am #115439Ah I know nine, Iβm not having a go at all mate. You know much better then me. Just a bit concerned for you guys but the figures can be misleading
I think Ireland is 4 to 7 mate but as you say, our population is tiny compared to the uk abd the figures are contradicted each day
I hope you abd your family are keeping well abd you get to see the grandkids soon. Is that possible tvis weekebd?
Does your son live near you if you donβt mind me asking? Iβm mucky my folks are ten mins away

13th June 2020 at 10:53 am #115478Sean, no worries mate I know you weren’t having a go.
0.4 to 0.7 is very promising for Ireland, apart from the mistakes we’ve made over here we’ve also got too many “eejit’s” taking no notice of the social distancing rules and the demonstrations are adding to that.
A couple of Fridays ago I came across a group of circa 15/16 neighbours on our green one evening with their chairs and bottles of wine all sitting no more than 2 feet from each other and these are adults not kids.
I’ve not seen my Grandsons yet but both my son’s live close by so hopefully soon but we are being careful and other than walking the Dogs and a trip to the Hospital I’ve not been out at all for weeks .
We should have been arriving in Spain today after a few days in France but all of that went out of the window a while ago. The main thing though is for all the family to stay safe.
Stay safe you and yours Sean and I hope things continue to go in the right direction in Ireland. Cheers 9’s

13th June 2020 at 3:39 pm #115609Nine..I am also of the opinion we are lifting restrictions too soon. I am aware of the arguments put forward by the people concerned with the economy but we are now at a stage where we are heavily in debt and we will have to claw our way back….we can do it. but if we cannot control the virus then we are going to be much worse off, in fact bankrupt Another 2 weeks we should see significant improvement but it is not there yet. The companies that want your cash will be eager to get everybody back, whatever the costs in human life and you know who they are. Brazil have now overtaken us in deaths, a second wave starting in China??? Everything is being driven in the media by statistics, they compare just about everything , probably at huge cost and how many times do predictions fail? I do not even find statistics based on what actually happened particularly useful either, In my view it is all a waste of time and money…who and how does anybody act on such conclusions anyway

13th June 2020 at 5:18 pm #115655Things are opening up here, been almost two weeks now, although I think the majority are still being very cautious about things (our house is still avoiding cinemas, restaurants, shopping centres, anywhere with large amounts of people in small spaces type of thing even though they’re all “open”, and we’re not the only ones!), going to the office my 2/3 days a week now although it’s still pretty empty. Company aren’t really pushing for “business as usual”, I think they’re seriously looking into the new “hybrid” office model that seems to be all the rage over here. Our little town seems to be getting back to normal now with no obvious spikes in numbers.
However, did have a VC with our Indian office in Mumbai Thursday, they’re very worried there. Numbers have suddenly started going up and the monsoon season is about to start, a time of year when the hospitals get packed with illness anyway. That whole region is going to be making the news soon and it won’t be good news.

16th June 2020 at 3:01 am #117280It’s pleasing to see there were only 38 covid-19 deaths in the UK today and 36 yesterday so hopefully you guys have seen the worst of it. The total deaths in the UK 41,736. When putting that figure into perspective that would be about the capacity at Stamford Bridge. Damn that is a lot. You guys stay safe and well and enjoy the football. Slowly but surely some sort of normality is starting to return to our lives. Australia is really starting to unwind restrictions now, however with the social distancing still an ongoing requirement. Walking around today though it is clear that most have forgotten already. Disappointing really.

16th June 2020 at 8:31 am #117473Cheers nine. Ye all good here.
I was in work for a few hours last Thursday and Iβm back in work Thursday for a few hours.
Banjo, itβs nearby fully back to normality around here mate. Traffic is getting bad again
Hotels etc getting ready to open on the 29th of July. No deaths yday aNd 18 new cases yday And I hope we can keep moving forward
Interesting that New Zealand had over 40k at a rugby game over the weekend after no new cases for 3 weeks but new cases reported yesterday
You get used to all this but it truly is a sad and worrying time.
Itβs just crazy how out of control this virus got globally.

16th June 2020 at 6:35 pm #117791You know you’re doing well as a Utd player when Chucky only hates you a little bit ?
Club affinities aside, he really is showing a great deal of maturity and inspiration for someone so young. Give him the Sports personality of the year award now IMO. Both him and Sterling have really shone this year, for me. Henderson another to have really stood out during this crisis.

22nd June 2020 at 9:36 am #122730“Germany’s coronavirus R number has leapt again – from 1.79 on Saturday to 2.88 on Sunday, official figures show.
The Robert Koch Institute for public health (RKI), which has been publishing the country’s COVID-19 statistics, said the new number is based on a four-day average. On Friday it was 1.06.” Sky News.
And according to Sky 1300 test positive for Cov19 in a meat packing company in Dortmund
Worrying news from Germany when they were seemingly on top of Cov19?

24th June 2020 at 5:22 am #124344Novak Djokovic had a brain explosion and even worse, the country allowed it to happen. Every covid-19 health rule there is broken and the end redsult he, his missus and multitudes of others infected. The dude is also an anti-vaccer. Totally irresponsible. He is copping it big time on social media.
