Sean, who really knows what is actually happening in China. Obviously once you lock down you have to be sure that the infection transmission has run itβs course before you go back to normality, otherwise you get a second wave of infection as they did with the Spanish flu pandemic. The other worry is that the virus mutates and still has the high infection rate it currently has but mortality rate increases….Pagan

12th March 2020 at 9:38 pm #84979I was supposed to be going on a cruise in two weeks. That wont happen.
The peak infection will come in a few weeks. I was reading that Israeli scientists have cracked the basis of a vaccine but it would take months to test and produce.10 P.M. Israeli research center to announce it developed coronavirus vaccine, sources say
Scientists at Israelβs Institute for Biological Research at Ness Ziona are expected to announce in the coming days that they have completed development of a coronavirus vaccine.
According to Health Ministry sources, the scientists have recently had a significant breakthrough in understanding the biological mechanism and qualities of the virus, including better diagnostic capability, production of antibodies for those who already have the virus and development of a vaccine. (Ido Efrati)
This will be sorted but imo not until next season so the only realistic approach seems to be posponement then curtailment.

12th March 2020 at 9:44 pm #84984However to continue:
An effective Israeli-developed vaccine for coronavirus is on track to be ready for testing within βa few weeks,β though it wonβt be available for months because of the lengthy and sometimes bureaucratic testing and approval process, a member of the development team said Tuesday.
Chen Katz told The Times of Israel that the new oral vaccine for adults and children could βturn this disease into a very mild cold.β He said that for many people who are inoculated and then infected by COVID-19, βpotentially it will not affect them at all.β
The rapid potential progress by the state-funded Migal Galilee Research Institute stems from the fact that the institute has been working for four years toward a vaccine that could be customized for various viruses, and has now adapted that work to focus on the coronavirus, he said._____________________________

12th March 2020 at 9:50 pm #84988We’ll see Sean, from my brief reading of various reports, South Korea appears to be one of the better ones out of the free law governed countries in the world and a lot of their response has been the ability to mass test and so quickly get a map of where the spread is and then convey that to the public, and shut down areas if required to. A blanket shutdown of everything, whilst sounding more reassuring, obviously causes other issues like children needing to be looked after, and we obviously need some kind of economy and workforce to still function and not everybody can work from home. It could also cause frantic panic buying again which puts everyone in close proximity with each other. I don’t think the answer’s easy with this and I think each country is constantly updating strategy on a daily basis, obviously keeping a close eye on the situation in Italy & South Korea, though I do think flights from northern Italy should have been suspended much earlier than they were.

12th March 2020 at 9:58 pm #84992Mikus, the fact that the lock down in northern Italy was leaked before it was due to be implemented defeated the objet as it caused a mass exodus to the rest of the country….Pagan

12th March 2020 at 10:13 pm #85001Pagan, yes the Italians it seems were constantly one or two steps behind and have then had to quickly revert to the option of last resort. You can only hope now elsewhere what with widespread public awareness, people will be extra careful.

12th March 2020 at 11:49 pm #85046Very moving Pagan. In this day and age, we seem to have forgotten that we’re still mortal beings and have acted like gods. Obviously one hopes the spread is mitigated as quickly as possible, but if there is any good that comes out of it, it’s that we hopefully realise again how precious life is and the sacrifice many still make around us.

13th March 2020 at 5:13 am #85190Seems like Arteta has the virus but Mendy is self isolating like the three Leicester players. Seems the cancellation of the City v Arse game was very much justified!
With the meeting on Tuesday with all the top footballing people I’m fairly sure this weekend’s matches will be the last football we see for a while…
Edit: Hudson-Odoi also has it. I can’t see many games going ahead this weekend to be honest. The mirror has something on their back page about the rest of Europe being in disbelief over the games going ahead and that pretty much sums it up. The UK will act but it will be too late.

13th March 2020 at 8:00 am #85250With players and Managers now affected by the Corona Virus and the situation worsening by the day the PL,EFL and the FA have to act now and call football off as do UEFA and FIFA.
The Government has to be more proactive in respect of large gathering which also include Concerts, the Theatre and Cinemas.

13th March 2020 at 8:44 am #85282We must now be on the brink of the PL etc being suspended. Liverpool are clearly the Champions or they should be but allegedly according to the Telegraph the PL rules say if the PL is locked down for more than 65 days then the season is null and void and if that’s the case it leaves a big mess to sort out.

13th March 2020 at 9:08 am #85300Cant believe that the EPL and EFL wont be postponing games for several weeks.
Hadnt heard of the 65 day rule. That would mean the season may well not finish.
Certainly no justification to play this weekend._____________________________

13th March 2020 at 9:17 am #85301AnonymousThey are holding an emergency meeting and lads, there is no way that they come out of it and say “we’re playing on”.
Arteta has tested positive and likely one of his players also? They don’t know when he got infected, it’s the 2 week window that will bring the PL down like a house of cards. Both West Ham and Portsmouth were in contact with Arsenal during this spell, which creates too much uncertainty.
I kinda don’t know what to say, I could hang on to hope but I am certain that they suspend this within the next few hours, in my own mind anyway. I hope they are meeting in order to not just suspend but to decide what to do with the title. My guess is that it will initially just be to suspend. I don’t see a way out of it for them.

13th March 2020 at 9:20 am #85303Anonymous442, they won’t continue. It has got to end TBH. I think if they were more cautious previously then we could have played the season out but once the players start getting it, it’s got to stop.

13th March 2020 at 9:22 am #85304AnonymousLads I’m gonna say ti though… this actually feels a bit like a VAR decision. You score a goal and half celebrate but then you watch and see if VAR rule it out. We were going to win the PL and it’s like we’re awaiting a VAR call on whether or not they rule it out or award us the title. You actually couldn’t make this up.
