Paxton many members of the public have been fined for breaking the rules, some may of got away with it. Many have obeyed the rules and have missed out on saying goodbye to their loved ones. You may know many that have nothing done, but how many of those are in the public eye? How many are part of the government that set the rules? Can you not see what message this now sends to the public? Can you not see how angry this makes people that have obeyed the rules and missed out being with their dying parent or attend their funeral?
It’s just another balls up by the government, one of many during this whole situation

27th May 2020 at 8:52 am #113486I listened to the Cummins interview, for me, he offered a plausible reason BUT I simply do not believe him now. Too many parts of his story do not gel together. The matter is made worse by Boris who should have had sense to distance himself from it since no apology was offered or seemed necessary.
I have a son in law dyeing quarter mile away and I cannot get to see him, what can i do Boris, tell me. I was prepared to give him the benefit of doubt and without getting caught up in the media witch-hunt, I listened to the Housing minister this morning in a pathetic defence of Cummins action, same applies to Hancock. It appeared to me there mouths were working but there heads somewhere else. Boris need to sort this now or his credibility will vanish as quickly as it came
If the PM has to rely on such a person who gives such lame excuses, my question, is what quality of advise is he giving our PM and the rest of us!!!! I should remind him that you do not take a car out to check your eyesight as well, what a fool. I am glad i was not driving anywhere near him on those days I wonder what his Insurance company thinks about this_____________________________

27th May 2020 at 12:57 pm #113489When will people realise that Johnson is a liar and a charlatan. They and other ministers come on TV every day, lie their heads off about the number of fatalities and tell us STAY AT HOME..THIS IS NOT ADVICE ITS AN INSTRUCTION. Those who voted for him can have and enjoy their extended furlough whilst it lasts. In the meantime go to the beach and ignore social distancing and start to create more infections. Total shits the lot of them.

27th May 2020 at 1:21 pm #113490AnonymousBrian, You’re spot on actually with regards to broadcast. The video you see from the press conference is more than likely pooled footage. Ie one camera from an agency streaming to all of them. In the UK there’s PA, Reuters, AP. Then the national broadcasters will be there with local teams and they’re usually based somewhere nearby in Westminster who provide “live hits” for the hourly bulletins and they gather their own material and have different camera angles. It’s a small pool to pick from and many are known to the PR officers because of the clearance thats needed to access govt areas.
There is some outstanding advice circulating in media webpages on social media from the BBC team who were all over China during the crisis there. Much of that advice will have come from high risk teams at national broadcasters and much of it has been implemented by news crews. Ranges from masking up, to disinfecting clothing and equipment after use. It’s actually kept news crews going through this epidemic.
Ultimately, lots could have and should have been different, Sensationalism, hindsight 20/20 vision and finger pointing brought about by social media has taken over journalism and mix that with jobs and livelihoods and lives being lost, its quite a combustible scenario emerging.
Boris’ govt was a protest govt, put in place buy people who believed the PR nonsense deployed by all major newspapers and broadcasters. It shouldn’t be lost on people that there was an organised and concerted effort to undermine the last labour leader throughout his time in office. That came from the deep state and the newspaper proprietors who saw Labour as an existential threat. What they didnt reckon none was corona forcing a conservative govt to implement most of the ideas from the Labour manifesto. The disconnect between the audience and media industry is breathtaking at the minute and its simply because it isnt free or democratically inclined.
If you have ten minutes, have a read of this which is a critique of the UK media industry… It is on point and gaming of what we all have access to.

27th May 2020 at 2:58 pm #113497442…well I did read it, but it is just one mans view and some of the points surprised me. I would have said the last thing the Independent paper was is Conservative. They are Labour and far from be “independent” Others are biased as he is accusing others of.
In the real world you could line them all up and not believe any of them, because they all have a flag to wave, certainly the BBC is the most bias institution we have to day, far away from when it was the portrayer of facts and good reporting

27th May 2020 at 5:26 pm #113504AnonymousThe point was about Corporate media Mr Blue. Anything owned by a wealthy owner is not independent by nature. You might not be aware but Twitter has an Army intelligence officer on its board for example… The independent is a conservative rag as its owned by Russians, who are far from conservative, and is a marker to beat Putin with over certain issues in Moscow.
What I find interesting is your response to it. One mans view, it actually isnt, there are lots In the media world who share that view, but dont get anywhere because they hold the views they do.
If we look at state interference in other countries, look no further than the CIA 1953 coup of Mossadegh. The CIA had 90 percent of the countries journalists on its payroll, all of which did what the UK press did with Corbyn. Look at the bashing that took place, it was in all media including the independent, only the Canary stood up for him, yet, here we are six months later with a lot of what he suggested coming into fruition under a conservative government.
An even more recent example of press collusion with state is the Kim song un death stories. never mind North Korea has had a whopping death toll from Corona, the leader is still alive contrary to reports carried by CNN and the like. That information came from somewhere outside of the Koreann peninsular.
A really insightful book on media is buy pulitzer winner Ben H Bagdikian, called the media monopoly and is worth reading. He died inn 2016, one of my role models and heroes before I entered the industry im now desperately trying to get away from.

28th May 2020 at 2:45 pm #113506Hi everyone
Hope you all are well..proper mad few months and it looks like things are picking up in baby steps. Not sure if it is the right call to play out the season, reckon we should be preparing for next season and cancelling this season.
For 1 season, scrap the CL and EL and have the top 7/8 play in a European knockout style competition, played across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in a FA Cup type format if it os safe to do. Teams who have come 5th-7th/8th play in the 1st round, teams who have come 3rd/4th start playing in the 2nd round and top 2 start playing in the 3rd round. If that makes sense.
Moving on to a bit of sad news. A regular poster on teamtalk called MacGuffin passed away several months ago. He has been posting on there since the late 90s and was a dedicated poster. May he rest in peace.

28th May 2020 at 5:11 pm #113508442…I hear what you are saying but from the year dot it has always been the way of whoever is at the top and whatever system is used. It will go on forever. It has become more sophisticated and has many black arts but I really do not know how things could change, dare I say it…..for the better. No such thing, internal politics and politics within politics would make it impossible. A revolution would not solve the problem either, look at Russia and China never mind N.Korea
We can only hope for a fair press and broadcasting system, that is asking a lot but Have no other solution to this. Politicians of our current era are poor in stature and standards, so I have zero faith in them_____________________________

29th May 2020 at 3:19 am #113512Stunned by that very sad news. He was a funny guy too. I remember him well and I did a little research to recover some information. Here it is with my post I just added on on TT in his honour, as follows:
Very sad. RIP MacGuffin. Always found him entertaining to be honest. A great poster for a long long time.
I spent a bit of time back tracking and found what appears to be his last post, on the Sheffield United thread 25/11/2019 – simply he quoted “1-1”
The prior one I found on the Partizan at Home Brighton at Home thread, a classic post as follows:
“Our home record isn’t that bad is it? Surely we have to win today??? …… I just love the desperation in poor happy’s voice. Pleeeeze somebody, anybody, tell me it’s going to be ok today.
There, there happy, my little treasure. Mommy macguffin promises we’ll collect 3 points today. Now finish your milk and Wayne Rooney annual, I’ll be back in a few minutes to turn the lights out.
A N D no playing with Mr Winkle, we don’t want your blindness to come back do we.
===============
Later that night ………. an eerie voice can be heard in happy’s room.
I’m the boogieman and here to tell you its all going to go tits up, ending in yet another embarassing home defeat. AND tommorow all the kids at school are going to laugh at you.
PS – I’m optimistic and going for a 3-1 win”
You will always be missed MacGuffin. Rest in Peace lad.

29th May 2020 at 10:21 am #113515Although me and mac had our fair share of heated debates especially during the Van Gaal era, majority of the time it was just exposing our love for the club. He was being a bit more realistic, whilst I was being optimistic. I started reading the forums more during lockdown and whilst I am working from home, just to check up on how things are with you guys. When I read the news in regards to Mac, I just could not believe it and then it hit home. It was only last summer we exchanged a rational debate when I went back to teamtalk for a short period.
Even though we don’t know each other personally, it feels like I do at times, just by the time and years we have spent together on these forums, if that makes sense. Hope all is well with you guys.

31st May 2020 at 3:32 am #113519AnonymousSorry to hear that you lads lost a friend. I’ve been on Teamtalk since the 90s but I guess I had gaps and I also have a really really poor memory, so I won’t pretend or anything but I just don’t remember him. Maybe he went by another nickname for some of those years, as many of us did?
As for the football, I’m pleased to see it coming back and ya, if Newcastle can attract the likes of Coutinho then they will be challenging for a European place within 2-3 years.
As for real life, I’ve really been caught up in the American shitshow. We thought some of the European countries messed this event up but America has blown everyone out of the water in terms of their ineptitude. Worse than that is Trump’s shit slinging. He’s passing the blame and his supporters are lapping it up. I sometimes feel that America is too far gone. I really want to be proven wrong, I kinda need it TBH. It’s just hard to hold any hope for humanity when you have such a country that cant stop churning out disaster after disaster. The are the blueprint on how not to do society.
yesterday, we at least had the NASA/SpaceX launch, which was just enough of a piece of history for us to forget everything else for a moment.
As for the PL, it really is the best call to continue the PL. We will certainly start next season without fans and it will have been a huge shock but here we get to play out an already decided title, where the ghost-town atmosphere is not going to have as much of a horrific effect. I guess we can consider it to be acclimatization… We can maybe start to add crowds in mid-way through next season though, instead of blanking the entire thing.
Going by the word on the street, these will be our last games with Mane… If that’s true, I’ll be so gutted. He’s irreplaceable. Who the hell is good enough to replace mane? Nobody. That we can afford anyway. I mean MBappe, sure but that wont happen. ‘Still, Liverpool’s forwards are all (I think) 28. We’ve definitely got to look forward but I’d give away the other 2 before I’d sell Mane.
