Nine…I have a view about Presenters, be it Sport, Politics whatever They SHOULD be there to present an impartial but pragmatic view of events not to use air time as there public domain to give personal opinions. That is the problem broadcasting has in general to day, it has become predjudist to its own views, the BBC is a prime example.

16th May 2020 at 10:44 am #113262Mav, as I said buddie Garry Neville is paid to give his opinions I don’t always agree with him and he can Ski a bit off piste at times but imo he’s the best pundit on TV.
Did you see the exchange between him and Kia Joorabchian re Tevez downing tools at United if not you can probably get it on the internet Carragher was hilarious.

16th May 2020 at 10:46 am #113264Brian,whilst I hear where you’re coming from and agree with you re presenters but Garry Neville is not a presenter he’s a Pundit and paid to analyse the game in all its aspects and give his opinions.

16th May 2020 at 11:35 am #113280Anonymous999.. sadly, rooney said something similar at the time… The players are are either 1) really badly advised bob their PR managers. 2) are simply too stupid to work out that saying nothing is better than just letting their mouths flap in the wind.
I would reckon that Nevile doesn’t actually believe in what he says as he constantly changes positions, so his opinions isnt valid as he doesn’t have one or simply paid to have one which means there is nothing in his cranium. There is a subtle difference between selling a narrative, and actually believing in one. I dont watch sky because its Murdoch media, I haven’t read the Times in more than a decade, The sun is fire kindle and the red top tabloids are hopefully going to go out of business and take with them the blood suckers who call themselves journalists.
Im hoping we can reboot society differently when this all passes.

16th May 2020 at 11:43 am #113281They trumpet German football restarting. Three games on BT. I have absolutely no interest in watching two German teams play behind closed doors.
What they have got right is that if fans do congregate outside the ground the match will be abandoned (at least thats what they say?).I still think our league should finish now and we prepare for a new season.

16th May 2020 at 12:23 pm #113284Adlab how do you prepare for a new season when the probability is that the virus will be here for a while yet? Just wait till it’s over? That could be 2 years or more. That isn’t an option as teams will go bust. They need to find a solution to move forward and that is what the Germans are doing and the English will do in a few weeks. And we need to do this for every aspect of our lives. Learn to live with the virus, not just wait in your house until it passes or a vaccine is available.

16th May 2020 at 12:58 pm #113287Adlab, I must admit I feel s bit like you re watching football behind closed doors I think it’s going to be very weird but “if” it’s safe I think we have to try and give it a go.
But there seems to be plenty of PL players who are concerned about the safet for instance Tammy Abraham’s Mother is an asthmatic and he still lives at home so he’s not worried for himself but for his Mum and what he might bring back with him. Then you have the unknown Villa player whose Mother in law is in Cancer remission and living with him and his wife and he like Tammy is worried what he might bring into the home with him.
I still don’t think it’s all cut and dried yet that the PL will definitely return and there are still some hurdles to clear. I’m not sure about the accuracy of this but I read a report today in one of the papers that the PL are going to debate the issues surrounding relegation if the PL can’t get up and running and finished.
I get the desire to get back to normality but the problem is that things aren’t normal at the moment otherwise I would be in Spain in a couple of weeks and currently I can’t leave the country or get into Spain and even if I did I would have to self isolate at both ends.
I just hope that all the League’s that do restart across Europe do so without any major problems and there are no regrets. Cheers 9’s

16th May 2020 at 1:13 pm #113288442, I’ve not seen what Harry Kane’s has said that is so objectionable what I have seen from him has seemed pretty sensible to me but he’s obviously said something that’s upset you and it might well have been stupid but you haven’t shared that with us so it’s difficult to comment.
Are footballers a sandwich short of a picnic? Not all of them but a lot of them are as their brains are mainly in their feet.
I get that some might not like Garry Neville I didn’t like him as a player but I do respect him as a pundit obviously you don’t and that’s your opinion and you’re entitled to it fortunately you don’t watch Sky so you won’t see too much of him to object too.?
Sky is no longer owned by Rupert Murdoch he sold it in 2018 to Comcast.
As for your suggestion Garry Neville’s got nothing in his cranium that’s your view and your entitled to it but it seems a tad harsh to me he had a very successful career thanks to his feet and he’s gone on to have a very successful career after football as a pundit, hotel owner and football club owner so he must have something there but as always it’s all about opinions and it would be boring if we all saw things the same way. Cheers 9’s

16th May 2020 at 2:15 pm #113293Harry Kane on the PL Restart.
“Personally, I’m happy to start training in small groups if we are allowed and try to get back to some normality as soon as possible,” he said.
“Every player’s different and everyone has their own point of view.
“We want to see how the Premier League give us a plan, and what that looks like and we’ll go from there.
“About a week ago we started going to the training ground, we were allowed to have one-on-one training with one member of staff on one pitch, self-distancing from everyone.
“We had tests on Monday – all the players and staff had tests – and everyone came back negative, which was great.
“The clubs are talking to the Premier League and trying to find a way of next week or the next couple of weeks of training in small groups of four or five. Hopefully to be tested regularly as well.
“We are taking it day-by-day, week-by-week and we are just trying to go with the flow.”
With the government permitting the start to a return to elite sport from June 1, the Premier League will see Kane’s endorsement as a huge boost.
Ahead of another meeting of the clubs on Monday, the situation still hangs very much in the balance, with the question of neutral venues still to be sorted.
Kane recalls for England against Croatia in October 2018 in a strange behind-closed-doors international Rijeka and even if fixtures do resume, he accepts circumstances will be far from perfect.
Liverpool are just six points away from becoming Premier League champions
“It’s going to be a really difficult situation,” he said.
“Liverpool deserve the title and to lift it without their fans will be a really strange situation.
“We haven’t been through a time like this in my lifetime so it’s hard to know what the right thing to do is. The fans are a massive part of football. They make football what it is so it will be different to play without them.
“I’ve done it before for England and it’s not the same. But if we want to finish the season we’re going to have to do that.” Daily Express 16/05

16th May 2020 at 2:26 pm #113294Troy Deeney on the PL Restart.
“Watford captain Troy Deeney has publicly blasted the Premier League’s Project Restart plans, insisting he will not put football before his family’s health.
The 31-year-old has been one of the most vocal players on Zoom meetings with officials regarding the resumption of top-flight football in England, which is proposed for June 19.
Deeney is incredibly skeptical about the Premier League’s Project Restart plans
But Deeney is still not convinced about safety of players and suggests he would rather go broke than put his loved ones at risk.“I am not even talking about football at the moment,” he told Simon Hosannah on Instagram. “I am talking about my family’s health and that is it.
“If I feel that I’m not looking after my family then I’m not going to do it. I am not going to put my family at risk.
“What are they going to do, take money off me? I’ve been broke before so it doesn’t bother me.”
The Watford striker highlights that social distancing during a football match is impossible and would go in direct opposition to the government’s advice on social distancing.
“So if it’s not safe enough for fans to be inside a stadium why should it be safe for players to be in there?
“At corners, Watford have 11 men back so you’re talking about having 18 or 19 men in a penalty area. That’s not social distancing.
“They’re the kind of questions people have been asking but we haven’t had the best answers at the moment.
“Not because people don’t want to give you the answers, it’s because they can’t give you the answers.
“The government say we can go back to work from June 1 but we can’t get a haircut until mid-July.
“We’re doing all this testing to get footballers back to work and then the NHS, care workers and the people on the front line don’t have enough tests. How do you justify that?
“I feel like they want to get us back to work so they can take more tax off you. Premier League players pay nearly £4billion in tax a year.”
According to the Office for National Statistics, black men and women are nearly twice as likely to die from coronavirus as white people in England and Wales.
And Deeney added: “Nothing more is in place for black people within any of the structures they are talking about.
“So when you ask that question and nobody can answer that question, why are you going to keep taking the risk?
“I am all for going back. But I am not for going back when it is not clear on how the steps are going to be made.” Talksport.

16th May 2020 at 5:12 pm #113298Well done to the Germans and BT Sport over here, they’ve just shown why footy is a spectator sport, without them it’s dire. Prior to the current situation I used to watch loads of sport, mainly footy and cricket, and the majority of it at grass roots level, but it was sport in the flesh. Even a match on the local park with 20 or 30 people watching was better than watching footy on the telly in the good old days, but if what was on the box today is a sign of things to come then I’m afraid the game as we know it is in serious trouble……Pagan
