Quick question.
Does anybody know why we are playing Arsenal rather than United.
Logic would suggest it should be the Cup runners up rather than the league runners up.
Surely if United had won we would be playing them?_____________________________

4th August 2023 at 8:36 am #207843Yeah mate of course if utd won fa Cup they would have played in community shield but I think its always been the case where if a team wins both fa Cup and league it’s the runners up in the league that play the CS.
I think runners up in prem is a tougher achievement than runners up in fa Cup and so if its going to be one of these it seems right it’s the runner up in the league.

5th August 2023 at 9:32 am #207857Do you remember last year’s match that Liverpool won?
Haaland was no good as he missed an easy chance
Nunez was a world beater and would score more than Haaland
City would struggle to retain their title………So much for pundits and newspapers!!!
We did OK I think π€

5th August 2023 at 11:07 am #207859Have to agree, Adders, all the pundits and rags got it all badly wrong last year… you should stick to your cyber chums on here, we all predicted the Abu Dhabi Sportswashing Campaign would walk away in their gold plated trainers with every pot possible and we all got that right… spent a lot and won the lot…

5th August 2023 at 12:46 pm #207861As per Merson! Is he correct?
When they played in the group stages in Europe last season, they played their strongest team. They started resting players in the knock-outs and went out straight away against Sporting Lisbon.βTheyβve brought in players now to strengthen the team. Very few people expected Arsenal to make it to the top four last season, but there are a lot of expectations from the team this season.
βA lot of players were unbelievable for Arsenal last season, and itβs a big ask for them to produce the same quality again.
βThis Community Shield match will be a bigger game for Arsenal than it will be for Man City. Iβm going to back Arsenal to win this game, 2-1.β

5th August 2023 at 4:32 pm #207867I forgot the Championship, EFL and the other leagues started today. Feels weird, but I’m glad at least some form of Domestic football is back on. Been depressing personally without it. I notice also Sky have been covering 3pm games. Will this happen to the PL too?

6th August 2023 at 12:51 pm #207877Well a win today would be the first ever quadruple in English football, very difficult to achieve, unlikely to see another triple for a long time, funny enough it was Arsenal who stopped the last possible quadruple.

6th August 2023 at 2:09 pm #207886We’ll get the team-sheet around 3. Bernardo and Rodri key figures, but I’m thinking Martinelli, Havertz and Trossard if included today.

6th August 2023 at 2:28 pm #207887Disappointed….
I have been reading that from today’s game ONLY about Β£500,000 goes to good causes and not the gate receipts.Wouldn’t it be nice if each player added just ONE days wages to that.
Can’t guess at how much but if we guess for all players an average Β£140,000 a week, say Β£20,000 a day for say 30 players that would double the donation.
Which one of us can’t or couldn’t give up 1 day’s wages. In today’s climate I find the amount for good causes very very disappointing.
Maybe it’s just me?_____________________________

6th August 2023 at 2:39 pm #207888I get where you are coming from Adlab. Helping the communities and those really struggling, a days wages which is loose change and another unnecessary flash car or a house would really go a long long way. Collectively if each player donated a week’s salary, we could try and tackle food banks and homelessness.
Unfortunately with the hiking of the interest rates and rent going high on top of everything else, many of us cannot bear to think what these players are creaming.
Disconnection.
