Wise words nil and dare I say that either of the domestic trophies would be tougher to win than that last night. But, as they say you have still got to get to the big dance to be part of it and that was achieved back in July. Congratulations on another victory. They have forgotten how to draw let alone lose a football match. Unstoppable this season.

22nd December 2019 at 9:44 am #57187First of all congratulations to Liverpool, only seen the result this morning, having been laid up with a stomach bug for the last 4 days. Just one thing Iβve read on this thread though, Mr Balance, thereβs still one major trophy Liverpool have never won….Pagan

22nd December 2019 at 10:18 am #57190Oh fair enough. What are they missing?
I googled their trophy haul which reads as follows:
Liverpool has won six European Cups, more than any other English club, three UEFA Cups, four UEFA Super Cups (both also English records), one FIFA Club World Cup, eighteen League titles, seven FA Cups, a record eight League Cups and fifteen FA Community Shields.

22nd December 2019 at 10:21 am #57191I assume Pagan means the Cup Winners Cup? Sadly we’ll never get the chance to win it either.
Mind you never won the intertoto either ?

22nd December 2019 at 10:23 am #57193Chelsea won the Cup Winners Cup against Real Madrid in the 1971 season but isn’t it the equivalent of the modern day tournament the Europa League? Liverpool have won a version of that based on the trophy haul list above.

22nd December 2019 at 10:43 am #57199Nil the trophy haul is substantial for Liverpool so I guess missing an old trophy from 50 years ago isn’t going to cause too many sleepless nights for the modern day Liverpool supporter π

22nd December 2019 at 11:22 am #57200I’m chuffed to bits we’ve won the WCC. In terms of importance to us, it obviously comes well down the list compared to the Premiership, but that doesn’t mean it ain’t worth winning, for many reasons.
I thought we were well worth our win last night, though there were a few hairy moments, not least in the last minute when Flamengo had that great chance to take it to penalties. I particularly enjoyed the fact that our two best players on the night were two of our least lauded players in Hendo and Gomez. Gomez had his best game since before he suffered his injury last night, and as for Hendo…what can I say? He gets alot of stick from opposition fans, the media and even a section of our own fans (see the pathetic debate going on on the Liverpool TT page), but there can be no question that he is Jurgen’s lieutenant on the pitch and is just the ideal captain. And to lead the team to this international treble in a 7 month period surely puts anyone questioning his value to Liverpool well and truly in their place.
Now they have to bring themselves back down to earth and get a result on Boxing Day at Leicester. I’d take a draw, to be honest.

22nd December 2019 at 11:41 am #57203C67, haha true mate.
To be fair, some of those named cups were extinct or replaced by another entity.
For example, I only knew by name the Simod Cup, but without going on Google, I wouldn’t know off the top of my head.
I ultra glad our name is on the World Cup. This is like a once in a life-time.
Man United won it back in 2008.

22nd December 2019 at 11:44 am #57207Yes Chelsea qualified for the Cup Winners Cup as a result of the FA Cup final win and then played a string of knockout home and away matches to reach the final as did Real Madrid. Thought I’d google it and read up on it. It was that far back I couldn’t remember what happened. Even forgot that the final went to a replay with the second match only attended by a small percentage of those that had gone to Greece for the original final. Most had tickets already booked for the return to England and missed the second match.

22nd December 2019 at 11:55 am #57209So glad for you mate but still disappointed for you guys that the scheduling destroyed any chance of you winning the Carabao Cup. Maybe Klopp could have mixed in a few of the experienced players and hoped to compete and win both but that wasn’t to be. Enjoy the ride to May Nil and number 19 clocked up. Over the next few seasons your lads could definitely equal and then surpass United’s 20. That has to be a big chance with their club battling to keep pace with you right now. Can’t see them winning any titles in the foreseeable future.

22nd December 2019 at 12:05 pm #57211C67, we’ll have to see mate.
If we get another 4 or 5 League wins and get through January, it could look like our wait is finally over. As long as we have a 10/12 distance.
Yeah, true about the domestic cups. I don’t know what the objective and the thinking is behind that. I’m thinking it’s a matter of riding our luck and then playing stronger line ups if they reach something like the semis.
We lost a few finals under Klopp and been on the receiving end so it’s nice to now start winning trophies.
Would be nice to start winning domestically too like you say. Not sure yet about surpassing Manchester United. We shall take it one game at a time π π
