David Luiz insists there have been no dissenting voices among the Chelsea squad despite troubling results under head coach Maurizio Sarri.
Sarri’s position as head coach is in doubt, with Chelsea facing a crucial run of fixtures. Monday’s FA Cup tie with Manchester United is followed by Thursday’s Europa League last-32 second leg with Malmo and the February 24 Carabao Cup final with Manchester City.
It was City who inflicted Chelsea’s worst defeat in 28 years, the 6-0 reverse following another humiliation, a 4-0 loss at Bournemouth which was the Blues’ heaviest in 22 years.
David LuizDavid Luiz scored the penalty in the shootout win over Tottenham which took Chelsea into the Carabao Cup final.
An hour-long post-mortem followed the City loss on Monday – 10 minutes longer than the dressing-room inquest at Bournemouth – yet Luiz says no one has raised objections to Sarri’s possession-based tactics, which have yielded mixed results.“We have had many meetings already asking if someone doesn’t believe,” Luiz said.
“They can say. Nobody said anything. It’s because everyone believes (in it).”
Chelsea slipped out of the Premier League’s top four as a result of the loss at City, responding with a 2-1 first-leg win at Malmo on Thursday night.
Head coach Maurizio Sarri has restored David Luiz to a prominent position in the Chelsea first team and a sequence of wins in the next few days could transform their fortunes under Sarri, who has restored Luiz to the starting line-up after the Brazil defender became a peripheral figure during Antonio Conte’s second season.
Luiz insisted Chelsea face “an amazing future” under Sarri, before trying to explain the losses to Arsenal, Bournemouth and City which meant the goals in Sweden were Chelsea’s first away from home in 2019.
He said: “We lost against maybe the best team in the world at the moment in Manchester City. They were better than us from the beginning to the end.
“We lost a few matches because it is part of the process. The teams that are at the top of the table now are ones with managers who have been there for more than three years.
“There is a big difference when you have already understood everything, it is much easier to play football. I think we are in the right way to still improve to become a fantastic team.”

15th February 2019 at 2:39 pm #33719Brilliant win for the Spuds,I wonder if Spuds would accept Lukaku & Sanchez for their star-striker in……………………….Llorente?
Son-what a player! Surely worth close to £150m in the current climate?

15th February 2019 at 4:03 pm #33721Nine, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Will clubs like Chelsea start giving their managers more time and patience or will they just keep going for the reset button. Top top managers are getting harder and harder to find.

15th February 2019 at 5:36 pm #33727Mikus, it’s always about results mate. But you’re right top top Managers are getting harder to find previously Chelsea have always shopped at Waitrose arguably even with Sarri he came from Sainsbury’s.?

18th February 2019 at 7:50 am #33750AnonymousChelsea very talented team/squad has stopped performing for 3 managers in a pretty short time. Maybe I mentioned it before on here but is there a point where the club take a much closer look at th eteam, in search of “bad eggs”?
I’m not backing any of the 3 managers when I ask this. It could be that each manager really were a bit mad etc. There is of course the question of the board. I’ve been critical of them since the sale of Matic. Again maybe they have nothing or little to do with it. One way or the other, this side will have to start performing for SOME manager at some stage. Chelsea’s merry go round of managers only works if it’s spinning relatively quick, not insane-o, with all the kids throwing their toys off it.

18th February 2019 at 8:03 am #33751I do think Chelsea (sorry Goldie!) do have an ego issue within the squad, the same pattern has occurred too many times to realistically disagree. Debating who would be a pointless task. The only “positive” for Chelsea, are managers are still queuing up as it pays well and generally seems to end up with a decent pay-off too. Wouldn’t surprise me if managers go there half expecting to only see out half their contract and with the “reputation” Chelsea have, no real harm on their CV afterwards along with a nice “boost” to their bank account…

18th February 2019 at 8:04 am #33752AnonymousAs for Liverpool, well, it’ll be good to get back to football. I don’t like the breaks at all. Cl is usually insanely important to me and don’t get me wrong, it still is but I just wanna get back to the PL 🙂
In the meantime though we’ve got this extremely difficult tie to get out of the way. It’s going to be hell without any of our best 3 CBs. If this wasn’t at Anfield I’d worry about a humiliation. here though, we’ve always got a chance.
If the lads whoa re out there are on form, we can definitely beat them but we have really got to be careful that we’re not leaving ourselves exposed.
I’m not going to make a prediction at this time.

18th February 2019 at 8:26 am #33753I don’t think BM are quite the force they were to be honest, although I have no idea about their current “injury” list. Don’t watch a lot of German football, but I was surprised about how “not as good as I thought they were” BD last week when my boys played them and they’ve supposedly been a lot better than BM this season (in Germany at least).
If your boys up top show up I can see a win for Pool to be honest. I don’t think you’ll be letting in that many.

18th February 2019 at 9:00 am #33754AnonymousThat was quite the result alright but every team can have an off night, especially in the CL. I’m not off-handedly dismissing what you’ve said though. I hope to be pleasantly surprised for the reason you’ve stated. I too don’t watch the Bundesliga but Bayern have been slowly gaining on Dortmund now for a while.
I won’t take anything for granted and TBH, you can’t rely on our forwards to blow teams away anymore. Besides Mane, our forwards lack consistency. The days of the media lauding Salah are long behind us now, as he’s still doing alright (especially stats-wise) but he’s certainly not in the top 5 players in the world this season. I get the feeling that we’re going to need to see him reach that level again soon, if we’re to win either the PL or the CL. I won’t even talk about the luck we’ll need with our defensive injury problems, I’ve gone on about that enough 😉

18th February 2019 at 9:01 am #33756Agree with Chucky this is not the strongest Bayern team and they trail Dortmund in the Lesgue who an injury hit Spurs took care of last week.
I’m going for a Liverpool win and progress to the Qtr Finals .
3 of of 4 PL teams in the Qtr Finals would be great for the PL.
I also think Liverpool will get a result at OT.
Girona beat Real winning 1-2 in the Bernabeau. I can’t see a 4th consecutive win for Real.

18th February 2019 at 9:13 am #33759There may well be some problems in the squad players tend to get edgy when they are not picked or results go against them and the Chelsea squad is one that has become used to success and winning trophies.
Having said that whilst I advocate giving Sarri more time it’s a results based business and I think he needs to be a bit more pragmatic with his team selections and tactics especially v the top teams.
Changing Managers hasn’t held Chelsea back though although personally I would like to see a bit more stability.
Tonight’s game is probably bigger than a place in the Qtr Finals for both Managers.

18th February 2019 at 9:14 am #33761Tonights FA Cup tie does have potential ramifications for both managers, doesn’t it?
Makes it a bit more interesting for the neutral, that’s for sure!

18th February 2019 at 11:04 am #33763There are similarities at both clubs. Chelsea started the season very well. But now it’s fizzled out. And Man Utd, after recently being strong, are also potentially in danger of fizzling out. You need a strong manager and/or strong characters in the dressing room that care deeply about the club. Does either side currently have that?
