14th February 2019 at 7:05 pm #33662ATBA… by my very quick calculations, Poncho has bought players for approx. 312 million and sold for about 225 million during the 5 years his been boss at Spuds, a net spend of about 17,4 million per year… or less than what YooUtd paid to sack Maureen and about the same as the Goonies pay Ozil every year… 🙂
Oh, and I agree, good luck to Celtic…

14th February 2019 at 7:21 pm #33665AnonymousSince Pochettino’s arrival at Tottenham in 2014, Sky Sports reports that Spurs have spent £254million in transfer fees while receiving £225m to leave a net spend of £29m.
Spurs’ net spending pales in comparison to the rest of the big six Premier League clubs: Manchester City (£518m), Manchester United (£466m), Arsenal (£225m), Chelsea (£200m) and Liverpool (£183m) have all overspent Spurs by at least £100m.

14th February 2019 at 7:31 pm #33668So you’re saying our clubs net spend for 5 years is the same as 1 year of Dirty Sanchez’ wages?? 🙂
This is the players bought list I have…
But yeah, still a shit load less than the other clubs…

14th February 2019 at 7:49 pm #33672TBA, Chucky beat me to it. 324mil EUR he has spent in the 5 years he’s been there. I’m not having all that “but he’s sold players too”. The fact is that he has had that much money to spend on his own players, building his own team. That he’s had some help to fund those purchases is beside my point really.
Why is this going back to Utd? I’m not sure what point either of you are making there. That we’ve spent more than you and been shit? Yep, agreed there. We’ve been awful, spent awful and managers have lost their jobs because of it. No argument from me. But I’m not sure what that has to do with the fact Poch has purchased players for over £300mil and spent 5 years at the club. They’re not my opinion. They’re facts fellas!

14th February 2019 at 7:51 pm #33673Comparing net spend amongst rival clubs is a silly argument. The debate isn’t about which club has been the most shrewd in the transfer market. It’s about whether Poch has had ample resources and time with which to build a side capable of winning trophies. The answer in my opinion is a resounding yes!

14th February 2019 at 8:06 pm #33674But Eddy, you say Poncho has had ample resources, but when compared to the people who have actually won the League (City, Chelsea and the fluke that was Leicester who put everybody to shame), has he had the same level of resources as those?
Because then the answer is a resounding no!!
Cups involve a fair element of luck, can’t really be judged as a barometer I feel…

14th February 2019 at 8:09 pm #33675Well according to the same site, Conte spent marginally more than Poch and won an Fa Cup and a league so yes! City are definitely an exception agreed. But P3p hasn’t been there the whole time Poch has been at Spurs

14th February 2019 at 8:26 pm #33679AnonymousCongrats to Spurs on an epic result. The chances of that being over-turned are almost non-existent. You just gotta stay alert and not take it for granted and you’re through.
Well done boys!

14th February 2019 at 10:43 pm #33686Sarri needs help from his players though Nine if he is to turn this around. Thing is, who are the leaders in that dressing room?

15th February 2019 at 9:01 am #33691Mikus, it’s not the players who are selecting the wrong teams and the wrong tactics mate it’s Sarri.
And why was CHO dragged to Bournemouth and City and not even given a place on the bench shortly after Chelsea refused to let him join Bayern despite a £40m offer is that sort of treatment going to encourage him to stay at Chelsea even last night he was given just 5 minutes v Malmö. If CHO is not down to start v United that’s ridiculous.
Why bring Hazard and Kante on v Malmö when Chelsea were 2 nil up and risk injury ahead of the FA Cup game v United and the League Cup Final v City. And why completely ostracise Club Captain Garry Cahill from the side to the point that he now doesn’t even make the bench for Europa League games if it’s a question of leaders why completely exclude one of the best leaders at the Club.
A lot of what Sarri is currently doing makes no sense to the majority of Chelsea fans let alone the players and if Sarri doesn’t adapt his tactics and play Kante in his best position v the two Manchester Club’s the outcome will be exactly the same as it was v City albeit hopefully without the stupid defensive errors that helped set City up for that win.
Sarri is probably drinking in the last chance Saloon at Chelsea now if he doesn’t adapt his tactics and he gets his team selections wrong v United, City and Spurs and the results go against him perhaps badly there will be sadly no way back for him this is not a question of leaders Chelsea have leaders in the team they have World Cup winners, multiple title winners and Champions League winners it’s a question of sensible tactics and sensible team selection and being a bit more pragmatic v the top sides.
If Sarri doesn’t offer that over the next three big games he will be gone I’m afraid sooner rather than later which would be a shame because the way he wants to play is the right way providing you adapt your tactics and team selections to take into account the strength of the opposition.

15th February 2019 at 10:47 am #33706Just saying that in Sarri’s world he’ll think the players should be delivering no matter what the tactics and fighting to the death in every game but the game has long moved on from that kind of thing.
But I do think a repeat performance from a Di Matteo figure (if Sarri is sacked soon) is far from certain because Chelsea no longer have those Terry, Lampard & Drogba figures and glue in the dressing room that played a big part in that CL win. They’ll need another serial winner like a Conte/Mourinho figure again if they’re too win something major with this group of players. I would add though that if such players had been available to Sarri, yes they may still have lost to the likes of City tactically speaking but I don’t think the margin would have been as big because they at least wouldn’t have taken it just lying down.

15th February 2019 at 1:30 pm #33711Mikus, I’m not sure any Chelsea fans are expecting anything special should Zola or ANO be shipped in to take over from Sarri if he’s sacked and tbh I don’t want him to be sacked I just want him to be a bit more pragmatic.
The majority of our current problems relate to Sarri’s tactics, team selections and isolation of certain players more than anything else and I think if he’s to survive he’s going to have to bend a bit especially when we play against the top sides.
Going into the League Cup Final v City with the same tactics and the same team will end the same way a different approach will probably still see a City win but at the very least Chelsea have to try and make a game of it which means not being so open and trying to go toe to toe with City and playing Kante in his best position. Not just my views mate that’s broadly the views of the majority of Chelsea fans although some want Sarri gone already.
