Bit harsh perhaps on BD, they were arguably the better side in the first half, scoring early in the 2nd really took the wind out their sails, and then we picked them off for the last two… you wanna think it’s over, certainly fancy our chances of scoring over there, meaning they would need 5 or something… but to do my best puppy impression “it’s a funny old game!”

14th February 2019 at 8:03 am #33589AnonymousAin’t it nice to be proved wrong, which in turn goes to show how little I know about football or my own team.
Never saw that result coming especially starting with a right back and 4 centre backs !!!
Well done lads now please can we have our injured players back as my poor old heart can’t take anymore._____________________________

14th February 2019 at 8:22 am #33590Great win for spurs. They are having a fantastic season especially considering they spent no money and have had a host of injury problems

14th February 2019 at 10:00 am #33593Just saw this on Twitter, made me laugh… talking about YooUtd fans…
*Spurs lose…
“Don’t think Pochettino is right for United, he’s not even won a trophy.”
*Spurs win…
“Pochettino is working miracles at Spurs. They’ve not even spent any money this season. Imagine what he could do at United.”
*Repeat depending on result…

14th February 2019 at 11:01 am #33594It would be funny if it was true! ?
Long long way to go for Poch to show he’s actually capable of winning things. After nearly 5(?) years at Spurs, it’s about time some expectation was placed at his feet instead of the tired, old “but look how good he’s doing despite not buying a new player”. That ignores the fact that he inherited one of the best sides in the league.
Utd fans main gripe with Poch was not even the fact he hasn’t won a trophy. It’s the fact he admitted he doesn’t want to win some trophies! I certainly don’t want him and the longer IMO he stays at Spurs, the more likely Spurs will turn into Arsenal under Wenger, where they play beautiful football but become accustomed to being also rans. Utd are very much also rans too at the moment but we’re clearly not resting on our laurels and taking action after years of poor decision making. So IMO long may Poch remain where he is!

14th February 2019 at 11:06 am #33595Spurs (under Poch) turning up on the way towards pivotal moments is nothing new. They’ve always had these moments in them. They’re often brilliant until the point where it really matters and then they just crumble. Poch may prove me wrong but he’s very much Wenger version 2.0 until then IMO

14th February 2019 at 11:10 am #33596It was a great win for Spurs….they are almost certainly through. Lets hope Liverpool and City do the same.

14th February 2019 at 11:24 am #33597I love you Eddy, but saying Poncho inherited a “good” side to start with??
Bit off the mark there…. 🙂

14th February 2019 at 11:37 am #33598Pochettino started his tenure at Spurs with Lloris, Rose , Dier, Walker, Vertongen, Eriksen, Dembelle, Lamela and Kane. That was a strong group of players imo.

14th February 2019 at 11:49 am #33599Hmmm… also had Capoue, kaboul, Adebayour, Bentalab, Naughton… and Kane/Dier/Erikson/Lamela then had all been at the club for about 3 minutes or in the reserves… not sure if Moose was there or not when Poncho tool over (I think he might have been to be fair).
I’ll give you Lloris, Van the Man, Rose and Walker but that’s about it…
Sure, it wasn’t a bad team, but I don’t think we were pulling up tree’s the way you and Eddy are going on about it… 🙂

14th February 2019 at 11:56 am #33600Firstly great job Spurs, awesome victory. Secondly you can’t tell me “they” don’t want real progressing. That was the worst most blatantly obvious one sided reffing performance I’ve ever seen. Too much money & corruption in football these days. Better off watching local club football, at least it’s more likely to be legit.

14th February 2019 at 11:59 am #33601Chucky, 7 of those players remain important players in Poch’s current team.
I’m not suggesting Poch hasn’t done a good development job because I think he has but 5 years on he’s still to win anything and despite the fact that Spurs are still contenders in both the PL and the CL realistically they are long odds outsiders to win either (25/1 for the the PL and 16/1 for the CL) and 5 years down the line Poch has still yet to win a trophy and at a lot of top Club’s that just wouldn’t be good enough.
If Poch stays at Spurs I think it’s still going to be slow burn for him given the need to still find the Stadium build and he might well have to move onto win something meaningful but we’ll see.

14th February 2019 at 12:04 pm #33602A manager’s shortcomings can be made up from the strength of characters in the dressing room. That certainly applied to Benitez’s CL win with regard to Gerrard and Carragher (no way he’d have won those trophies without them). And also Ranieri clearly had a dressing room full of characters the year Leicester won.
The problem nowadays is many of the top clubs lack these characters and thats reflected in the lack of Premier League European success in recent years. Therefore to have success now you need a ruthless manager to get the best out of a group of players because not only do they have to coach but they have to make up for the lack of characters they have. This is why Sarri (decision making and tactics aside) has been scratching his head over why his team weren’t motivated – it was a very Wenger-esque comment – as though he’d come from an older era parachuted into this new era where the game had changed but he hadn’t.
As for someone like Klopp, I’m not convinced he’s ruthless enough. He’s already on record at Dortmund saying he plays first and foremost to entertain, not win. And this season, in the big games where Liverpool could have ruthlessly put things to bed, they haven’t capitalised. The only reason we’re still in the race is that City too lack characters and after winning last year have struggled to maintain that standard of last year.
It’s therefore crazy to say it, but if Mourinho hadn’t been at Man Utd, he’d now be one of the favourites for the job because he is still a ruthless winner. But the board didn’t buy well enough and some personalties just proved too big even for him to handle (I’m also not convinced Pogba was a Mourinho signing). If conversely Man Utd did opt for Poch, you can imagine them playing some nice stuff as Ed suggested, but with few characters there, he’d struggle to get them over the line and I don’t think he’d make up for it himself with his own personality. Man Utd therefore need a ruthless winner. Solskjaer has got a long long way to go to prove he’s that.

14th February 2019 at 12:20 pm #33606Nil, how do you know that mate?
And do United really want Poch anyway given his trophy record, his seeming disdain towards the domestic Cups and likely £40/50m that Levy will want for him.
