Interesting point about being less of a tax on the players physically Nine. It is a dangerous path to go too far down but still very worthy of discussion. As long as the lads take it entirely seriously and respect Porto, I think it’s fair game to suggest that playing against Porto instead of City or Barca , will be easier on the legs.
As for Barca walking to the final, I definitely think that if it so happens that we end up facing them, we’ll give them a game.
I think we should get more credit for knocking out Bayern than they have received criticism for not showing up. They’ve made up for the first half blunders and stormed to the top of the Bundesliga. They were a team on form before we played them and I think that if we can beat them, we can at least have a reasonable chance against the other top sides.
I cant wait to see how the semi finals go. I would often not be that interested in the other games but the draw has been fantastic for football.

17th March 2019 at 7:32 am #36027Mak, not just physically mate but mentally too these big Champions League double headers take a lot out of the players and often effects PL performances.
Porto is a great draw for Liverpool and whilst Porto will have to be taken seriously I think everyone would have been looking to draw them.
Tbh I was hoping Liverpool would have got a much tougher draw because Chelsea play Liverpool at Anfield in between both Qtr Final ties and we need all the help we can get.?
Re the Bayern game I think generally German football is going through a bit of a lull at the moment but it still wasn’t an easy place to go and win for Liverpool and I agree Liverpool are in with a chance of beating any of the teams left and none of them will want to play Liverpool, Liverpool are short odds to win the CL and rightly so imo. Cheers 999

17th March 2019 at 10:08 am #36041Probably the best draw we could hope for, just glad we didn’t get a manchester team.

17th March 2019 at 10:10 am #36042For me this draw has convinced me even more that the C/L is the best chance of us winning something this season

17th March 2019 at 11:40 am #36046Oz, yeah agree with that mate.
I’ve mentioned before not to place certain European teams on a Pedestal in the first place. English teams convincingly have pushed the boundaries but they do need to get over the finishing line and actually win it in successive seasons to give that impression of being a dominant force.
The Cup 2 legged format suits us because unlike the league, it’s not mentioned on how many points (albeit the group stages).

18th March 2019 at 5:41 am #36089Yeah Nil, Anfield on a European night is a massive plus & in the C/L the ball is totally in our court, we control our destiny. Unlike the EPL where we are relying on another team to slip up more than us (which is very unlikely). I actually fancy our chances better against the top European teams than I do top teams in the EPL so hopefully we can do it.

21st March 2019 at 3:52 am #36189AnonymousFat chance of CL games going to the weekends. With them also discussing promotion and relegation, you’ve got to wonder if this is UEFA trying to muscle in on the break-away league themselves. They would be really wise not to mess with the PL. Although both are threatened by the idea of a Euro Super league, you don’t want to alienate yourself by needlessly pissing off the national institutions.
