Can’t see PSG going anywhere near this trophy with that defence. Spurs had themselves to blame after dominating that much. I still feel if any English team will lift this CL. It will be City. They have a squad capable of handling both competitions. Liverpool has a good 11 but their overall squad is not strong. They will do well if they focus on the league this season. Pochetino is under pressure. Surprised that fans are taking about replacing him so early. United? I can’t see them past the quarters at best.

19th September 2018 at 6:56 am #26488Yet again I’m left scratching my head wondering why Tuchel is seemingly rated so highly. Apart from being average at Dortmund, what has he done in his career to get the reputation he has as one of Europe’s top managers, backed up by the fact he got the PSG job?

19th September 2018 at 8:15 am #26490I’m not, Chucky! Just thinking what a fine morning it is here in the north-west! Haven’t seen your game, but from what I gather, you could have won the game by half-time.
As for my night at Anfield, well, what a great performance, and a thoroughly deserved 3 points. Cavani might as well have not been on the pitch, Trent and Gomez kept Neymar so quiet and Robbo at left back only lost Mbappe once. Robertson must keep pinching himself that 15 months ago he was playing for Hull and getting relegated from the Prem, and he’s now one of the first names on the teamsheet, playing in Champions League matches, and a true hero of the Kop….and plays like he is going to make the most of every second of playing at this level. Is there a better left back in the Premiership? And Milner, what can I say about him? That tackle on Neymar early on let him know he was in a game, while being a perfectly good tackle, and he was just everywhere.. He should be drug tested after each game – he’s just getting better and better. Mikus, the other day you had a little pop at Henderson – you”ve got to admit, he bossed it last night!
So I’m a happy man this morning, and good luck to the other English teams tonight, except maybe Man utd (old habits die hard!)

19th September 2018 at 8:20 am #26491Adlab, I think it will be very difficult for PSG to win the CL playing week in week out in the French League they blow teams away every week in the French League but struggle to get further than the Qtr Finals in the CL.
Despite the scoreline Liverpool were comfortable winners last night without hitting their best form and the front three only want to play offensively it made it a good game to watch but tactically PSG looked naieve and that’s down to Tuchel which highlights the main point in the Ed’s post above.

19th September 2018 at 8:29 am #26492Didn’t see our game, only very limited highlights, (discovered literally 30 secs before kick-off CL footy has moved channels here in Finland to a channel I don’t have… and after last night don’t know if I can be arsed to change my “package”!) so I can’t really comment too much. Sounds like we shot ourselves in the foot and snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Poncho reckons it was our best performance of the season, but he’s going a bit mental at the moment so I have no idea (and not saying much if it’s true anyway, we’ve been playing like the Dog & Duck since about March!)
So, 6 goals in 3 matches, and I reckon WORM should have done better for at least 4 of them, just want Hugo back between the sticks sooner than later…
Away to Brighton next… can we do 4 in a row? Can Harry remember what he’s supposed to do?
Think I’ll move to Malmo…

19th September 2018 at 9:18 am #26496Hightown Henderson was excellent. Winji has been a brilliant signing. Does a great job for the team
Very good win but should have been so much more comfortable
City favourites for cl with Juve and Madrid a close 2nd in my opinion
Delighted Sturridge scored. Salah looks tired. Heโs still contributing but Iโd give Shaqiri a run son
Huge games coming up. Really enjoy watching us play

19th September 2018 at 9:20 am #26497Banjo spurs were all over inter. It was one of those games. Icardi scored a wonder goal but poor defending for the 2nd goal
They will beat Brighton Iโm sat to bounce back
Moura looked excellent again when he came on
Ye easy wins for utd and city. Havenโt seen much of city this season but will look at their game tonight. I can see them winning it this year

19th September 2018 at 10:21 am #26498AnonymousFirst half last night was the worst weโve played all season. Pochโs insistence of playing it out the back when we didnโt have the players to do it was mental. Often we didnโt make it past the 18 yard box before giving it away.
Second half was much better. Inter looked tired and we controlled it. However pochโs substitutions lost is the game. Lamela was all over them at the back and when he took him off and changed to 3 in midfield inter stepped up. They had time on the ball and could build attackโs. Then at 1-1 inter were pumping the ball in the box, we need players that can win headers and he took off Kane for rose and lo and behold, we concede from a corner with a header.
Poch then seemed to go a bit mental in his post match interview. Iโm very concerned about what is going on at the moment and it all stems from cunting Daniel levy being a cunt!

19th September 2018 at 11:02 am #26499Hightown, just to be clear, I didn’t say Henderson was as poor as Dier, just that Chucky’s previous post to mine could be said of Henderson, i.e. that he’s useful but could well become a squad player this year (once the new midfielders are up and running), and that whilst he has many attributes, you wouldn’t necessarily say he is a master of any of them.
As for last night, I can’t not agree with you. He was very good in possession and with his distribution and there were shades of Alonso about him at times. He has certainly made the best of himself and that’s to be applauded. But a couple of points. PSG, for all the talk of their stature, just aren’t that good a side, and were all over the place last night, and there were constantly huge spaces for us to take advantage of. Whilst Henderson still played well, I think that did help him. (Why PSG let Matuidi go last year is also beyond me [probably to help finance the Neymar deal]).
Also, as I put up on TT, of the 14 goals we’ve scored this season, 11 have been scored from our front line, 2 from our penalty taker Milner, and 1 from Wijnaldum from a set play. So our midfield has contributed no goals from open play this year. That’s putting our front line, still not fully up to scratch, under more pressure. We need other players to share the burden. Now, the midfielders have played well this year and did so last night, but they are all quite similar in a way and their job seems more to service the front 3. We can get away with that up to a point, but we still need a goal scoring contribution from them. I think when Keita is (hopefully) up and running, we’ll see such a contribution then. There’ll still be a role for Henderson to play because Klopp loves that energy and work rate, but for me he’s more of a support act than a main act.

19th September 2018 at 12:39 pm #26501OK, Mikus, fair points. Hendo may not necessarily be a first choice all season, but he was definitely one of our best last night.
And I think Liverpool should be given a bit of credit for last night. Everyone seems to just be saying PSG were poor. We made them look poor by strangling the service to their front three who were
superbly shackled by our defence. They arent one of the favourites to win the competition by accident._____________________________

19th September 2018 at 4:13 pm #26505AnonymousWe saw weaknesses in PSG’s play/philosophy (or lack there-of) but I don’t think we should write them off yet. You’re going to spot certain problems a lot easier when you’re looking at some of the apparent, best players in the world. Absolutely agree that they will have to step up their teamwork/ defensive side of the game but they are still a force. I think if we didn’t play well, they’d have destroyed us but we were on form and controlled the game. We didn’t allow them to build a whole lot. The few times they did, they looked dangerous enough.
Will PSG win the CL? I won’t write them off completely yet as it’s a long season and mistakes can be learned from as time goes by but I definitely think Liverpool have a better chance than them. We also need to improve but we know what our front line can do and Firmino is already reminding us. Not going to get too far ahead there because it’s only 3 points, in a very tough group but I was pleased to see Napoli draw.

19th September 2018 at 4:32 pm #26509I’m not necessarily saying he’s the main problem at the club, Mav. I’m saying I just don’t understand the hype about him. He’s done nothing in the game to warrant the hype.
