15 minutes to go to see who get’s what, who’s going were, and the discussion on how on earth YooUtd always get an easy draw! ?
And the Thursday night boys too…
(No prizes for the first poster to suggest the cliche of “no easy games at this stage”)

17th December 2018 at 12:15 pm #29553Liverpool and Spuds are both 50-50,United will get slaughtered by the best attacking-trio in the world: Neymar-Mbappe-Cavani,will shaft our leaky defence! Bayern are nothing that Liverpool should fear @ all! Oh boy,I can see a proper spanking, both @ OT and Parc des Princes.

17th December 2018 at 1:46 pm #29562Bayern arent what they were and Kovac’s job is currently on the line with Bayern trailing Dormund by 9 points and defensively they can be a bit shaky which will suit Liverpool, I can see Liverpool taking a good enough lead to Bayern in the 2nd leg.
Schalke is a dream draw for City and helps them in the PL too as they should be two less pressurised games.
Spurs will need to be at their best v Dortmund across both legs if they are they can go through.
Be a surprised to see United progress over PSG but you just never know once it gets to knock out stages but you would think PSG with their attack should be too strong for this United defence.
But February is a long way away and there’s a transfer window in between by then even Real might have sorted themselves out and they will be happy to have drawn Ajax, difficult draw for Juve and Barca will be too strong for Lyon very interesting Qtr Finals shaping up.

17th December 2018 at 2:02 pm #29570I fancy Juve at 13/2. Theyβre overdue a European Cup and are as strong as theyβve been for a while. Still think City lack real leaders to push them over the line in that competition.

18th December 2018 at 5:12 am #29614AnonymousI would probably put us in as second favourites to win the tournament. It’s pretty close though but I think we edge Barca, Juve and PSG. You might say “PSG finished ahead of you!!” but group stages mean nothing as long as you get through them. I’ve seen Liverpool participate in quite a few over the years and they aren’t much of an indicator for how things go when it gets to serious business. Of course, I could have a vastly different opinion by the time these matches are coming about. We’re talking about a long time in this game.
You can’t rule out Real and Bayern and you could go into a very interesting conversation about current form/ability versus experience. Man City definitely have both teams (by some distance, in my opinion) in terms of their current ability to play the game. When things get serious though and the pressure is on, you want players who have been through it and come out the other end with the result. I have discussed before about how Man City’s character was never really tested last season, in the PL but we tested it in the CL and came out on top, in both games. Our fans have been through this many times and it definitely helps. Our players have a EL and CL final appearance under their belts, even if they didn’t win either of them. When looking at the journey to these finals and the teams who were knocked out of our way, it’s all valuable. Maybe this is the season where City finally feel they have enough experience to assert themselves on this competition though.
I put Liverpool as 2bd favourites because we’ve stepped up a notch since last seasons final. We’re developing game by game now too. I still think we’ll feel Gomez’s absence but that’s another story and also, he should be back and have a few games behind him by the time we get to the next CL match.
We’ve definitely added another trick to our trade and I’m not just talking about the summer additions and the settling process. We are tactically more resilient and I’m sorry if this sounds like I’m blowing my own trumpet here, I’m only pointing out that we’ve covered over some of the holes in our game. We’re not perfect and if we don’t play our best against Bayern, they’ll put us right out. I do think we will play our best though. The 36 shots against Utd highlights the teams hunger to win and in the wake of City’s 3 points the day before, the lads laid down an emphatic statement of intent. Whether they get where they want this season, they are mentally setup for business.
As for City, they are the best team in the world and I honestly do not want to meet them at all. Odd thing to say since we put them out last season and have since improved… but I said before the Utd game that I thought we were no longer setup in a way that was tactically vulnerable to Jose’s usual shite (parking the bus), the point must be made that we are also no longer Man Citys tactical nemesis. We do what we do to a really high standard but they do what they do even better and since the rock paper scissors no longer favours us, I think we won’t beat City this season.
So ya, I’m really happy to meet Bayern. It will be a really tough game and we might go out but it also will add character to the legacy, if we can manage to raise our game to the highest level in this seasons tournament. It’s been a really long time since we’ve played Bayern also, hasn’t it. I can’t even remember the last time.
To comment o the previous post of a Liverpool V Man City final…. Oh Lord. I’m not comfortable thinking so many tough games ahead but that would be an utterly insane match-up. I don’t know if I could handle that. We’ve only got bayern and god knows what other world class teams standing in our way so far.. I will say one thing about Bayern though. Rightly or wrongly, I think they’ll be more afraid of us than we are of them. Maybe that isnt a good thing but hey>>
waffle over. cheers

18th December 2018 at 8:09 am #29617Good waffle, Mak! I’m going to do an Oz here, and say that there are a few teams ahead of Liverpool as favourites to win the Champions League. I would certainly put City, Barcelona, Juventus and PSG ahead of us, and probably Bayern, Dortmund, Real and Spurs at a very similar level. But Anfield on a European night is a very diffrerent place, louder, more hostile, more febrile, and there are no doubts, I have seen top teams freeze there.
So while we are in the discussion of potential winners, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We’ve got an ok draw, could be better but could have been worse, but we are without VVD for the first leg, and that is massive.

18th December 2018 at 9:00 am #29619Good assesment Hightown. I think Liverpool will have too much pace and energy for an aging Bayern team although missing VVD for the first leg isn’t great I still think Liverpool will take the lead they need to Bayern. When the dust settles on all these ties I think we may be down to 2 PL Club’s left in the competition but you just never know in Cup football.
