Could have been a lot worse.
In fact, plenty of optimism can be taken to turn the tie around.

30th April 2019 at 10:13 pm #39356One of the biggest games in Pochettino’s career and he got his tactics wrong. Like Nil said it could have been a lot worse.

30th April 2019 at 10:18 pm #39357I like Glen Hoddle but there shouldn’t be pundits on TV talking we’s without they want to go to the loo and Jenas as co commentator makes Carragher look well balanced.?

30th April 2019 at 10:59 pm #39359Deservedly go through against the richest side in the competition. Get completely schooled by a side running on a Championship level wage budget. Only Spurs!
Still wide open though I think. Spurs have shown they have a decent away performance in them. Does Poch have it in him to pull back a result like this when it matters?! Will be an interesting watch next week

1st May 2019 at 12:30 am #393601-0 only can easily be overturned by Spurs though I found the game rather boring

1st May 2019 at 3:12 am #39361AnonymousI watched the match but honestly, only with half an eye. I miss having 2 monitors, so I was doing other stuff on my PC at the same time. I could say that it’s a case of both Ajax being good and Spurs being a little underwhelming but I just wasn’t paying enough attention to really get into it. One thing is for sure though, if we get past Barca, I won’t be taking Ajax lightly, if they are to go through.
I didn’t see anything in there that i feel we couldn’t handle but they are a PROPER side and need to be respected.
As for Barca, I’m really looking forward to this game. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not fearful of them. Maybe it’s our crazy season, where all minds are on the PL. The CL has taken a really uncharacteristic-al (?) back-seat for us this season. So, while we have essentially chanted “enjoy the ride” in the PL, whilst failing to do so at all (ha!)… well, this seems to be my default state for the CL right now. I can’t wait.
There’s no doubt that this is an absolute monster of a challenge. It’s important for us to try and come away with a result, if we’re to keep morale up. If we’re still in it for the return leg then we’ve always got a chance but as I said before, I fear that we’ll concede at Anfield, so we’ve got to really have a go in Barcelona.
I think Klopp will see things the same way as myself, so we could be in for an absolute belter of a match.

1st May 2019 at 8:26 am #39364funny cos its true 🙂
seriously other than a few minutes here and there it was either very quiet or you could hear Ajax fans, you just have to accept us we and many other have with our new toys that the increase in capacity just means more corporate and tourist “supporters” and less noise….
considering the bare bones squad though and the bench that made me spit me tea out…not the worst result and a few players back by next week might be enough (fingers crossed not though;) )
and can someone please tell me when Disco started being and actually decent player?!

1st May 2019 at 8:30 am #39365The morning after the night before and Spurs can count themselves fortunate still to be in the tie 2 or even 3 nil wouldn’t have flattered Ajax but Spurs go to Amsterdam just one goal down with Son back in the team and Ajax may not know whether to stick or twist which can be dangerous in these ties and surely Poch won’t get his tactics so wrong again and Spurs will turn up next week. Also Ajax play a domestic Cup Final on Sunday which might work in Spurs favour.

1st May 2019 at 9:01 am #39366AnonymousSteve I was at WHL on Saturday so I know different mate, we have a better class of corporate than you ours are from Walthamstow !!! You know you are down to bare bones when you’re impact subs are Foyth and Davies. If we can get Winks back alongside Disco ,buy a new right back !!!, and let Sonny loose all is not lost. A poor performance and Poch got it wrong playing 3 at the back .
I reckon Jan is done for the season but may be proved wrong, lastly all the best for Liverpool , their supporters all the lads on here .

1st May 2019 at 9:14 am #39369Winksy might be back sooner than you think, the reports it was season ending were not entirely accurate (don’t know 100% when his back), but at 1-0, not starting with 3 at the back, Disco and Son starting in place of Fernando and probably Jan The Man, and maybe Winksy (or even Dier) in place of Vicky, score the first goal and then it’s game on!!!

1st May 2019 at 10:39 am #39373Would Alli get into the City team? Lol,while Alli was playing in a CL semi-final,who were City playing? Oh,hang on….
Honestly,I havent seen such a team for a very long while now! This Ajax team are someffin different! Watch City,PSG,Real,Juve,Bayern-this is how you build teams/dynasties without spending £ billions every year-you fecking parasites.Hope they go on to win it,only Liverpool comes close to matching them.
Not gonna even waste time to mention the likes of United,Chelsea,Arse,etc……_____________________________

1st May 2019 at 12:18 pm #39375I never said we were buying a new RB, that was ATBA…
We were certainly better in the 2nd half than the first, but still not great. Fernando is a great Plan B… I’ll rephrase as he’s a pretty ropey as a Plan B… 🙂 … Fernando at best is a Plan B, not a Plan A striker so with him up top we were always going to struggle, lacks mobility. I think the biggest change/improvement was the extra body in midfield when Disco came on for Jan. Hopefully Poncho has learned from that.
History/statistics are against, as it seems only once has this “turnaround” ever happened in the competition (home team losing the first leg 1-0 and still going through to the final… and that was Ajax!!), but there’s always a 2nd time for everything… score first in the second leg and it’s game on!

1st May 2019 at 12:46 pm #39376Barca looked very shaky at the back at Old Trafford, to the extent where a better team could have scored a couple against them. At the same time, at home, Barca have always been very strong in the CL, this season scoring 15 and conceding just 2 there.
In light of that do Barca try and win the tie tonight and go for it? Given we are much more balanced side than last season, we should better cope with such things. Tempted to say we can win tonight (which we can) – but should aim for a professional job – nothing too bold, just play our game and get the job done. Bit like Ajax last night.
