Mak, of course you are right an i mentioned passions were rightly high….
but look at the difference between many of your fans compared to say City fans…they COULD yet still miss PL too as well as CL, this was surely their best year to win the CL….
im sure they are gutted and passionate but you dont see them bemoaning the other team, calling unfair this and that and blaming anyone else for missing out….its a perception thats given off by many (not all) of your fans hhe longer your wait for serious silverware goes on….they would have more right saying we have pep, spent the most etct etc
your team has spent but spent well, have a top manager, play great football and challenge, all you can hope for or any team…..Arsenal won a lot less than we should have during our “good phase” including a CL final loss to Barca!!
football like life is unjust, you didnt deserve to lose 3-0 and played very well, i think it hurts more as this year you can and did compete, last time it was more of a surprise as you still had glaring weaknesses that had yet to be addressed….
i see why both matches are in your mind, but you were not as a good a team last year, playing a lucky RM side that were very poor all round and on the wane far more than this Barca team and who literally cheated as they always do and 2 shocking errors you cant do much about, this time you played better than the oppo, and were unlucky but not unlucky in a dodgy decision way just in a results way…
football….its a tough old world!

3rd May 2019 at 8:21 am #39701I’m with the puppy on this one, that petition should have the piss taken out of it… a complete and utter waste of time and has done nothing but make the organizers look like tarts and the signatories morons!!
What’s next? A petition to stop players tackling Salah? Law to make away fans sing You’ll Never
Win AgainWalk Alone in a sensible manner? π_____________________________

3rd May 2019 at 8:25 am #39703maybe a petition that we all agree that Liverpool are our “second club” and we all secretly have a soft spot for them and they really shopuld be allowed to win a PL and if they do we will all feel much better π

3rd May 2019 at 11:19 am #39738AnonymousSteveo, I think Liverpool are a bit different though. We’ve been in and out of the mix for 30 years without ever winning the PL. Ya, we won the Cl in 2005 but since then we’ve been to the Europa League finals, was it the FA Cup final also? I forget.. but then 2 Champions League finals also, where we’ve lost them all. The heaviest losses have been in very recent years too.
The Pl looks lost to many and is even in mathematical terms, most likely lost. it’s not just the fact though but also the matter. No team has ever finished with as many points as we have now and not won the PL.. and there are still 2 games to go for us to stretch this unfortunate record.
So, when you judge this sense of injustice, or whatever you want to call it.. it isn’t from nowhere that we’ve gotten it. Losing out cuts you each time, so really I think Liverpool FC is like a footballing trauma ward at this stage π
Look at City, literally current champions. They won the PL by it’s current record points last season, why would they be upset? They are almost certainly going to do it again. They missed out on the CL? However will they console themselves with their potential treble? They have absolutely no right to be pissed off or upset, so of course they aren’t.

3rd May 2019 at 11:25 am #39741AnonymousBut ya Steveo, I agree completely with your summation after that. I definitely have no issues with ref calls or any of that Suarez shite. I will say that it was annoying to see Messi rolling about 4 times when shoulder charged and Suarez with his ridiculous play-acting. Mild annoyance though and honestly, besides the point entirely (try to make the final). the play-acting was a complete side act and didn’t cost us anything, so I dont really give a s***.
I’m not looking forward to the fans booing suarez every time he touches the ball. That does piss me off. The fans screaming that Suarez isn’t a Liverpool legend also.. Ya I’m not on board with that shit. you don’t undo the good memories with a few moments like what we saw.. His celebration wasnt to wind up fans, so Im ok with it.
if he scores in the return leg and starts gesturing at the Liverpool fans in a provocative manner, my opinion will flip hard, of course. That would be way over the line.

There’s no way that petition is from a Liverpool supporter though. I know it’s something you want to believe, cause that is hilarious but no lads, sorry.

3rd May 2019 at 11:28 am #39743AnonymousAs for Jose, he’s psycho who’s been fixated on Liverpool ever since they chose Rafa over him. He should consider the smoking remains of what used to be a career before he opens his crazy face to speak.

3rd May 2019 at 11:30 am #39744Winning the PL title means you have to be better than those you’re competing against whether the PL is won on 78 points or 98 points.
Whoever finishes the season at the top of the League in any given season are worthy Champions. When Liverpool went to the Etihad they were 7 points clear and had a chance to extend that to 10 pints they couldn’t do that and City closed the gap similarly when City lost at Newcastle Liverpool couldn’t take advantage of that.
There is no injustice whoever tops the PL after 38 games deserves the title and if that’s City hats off to them but it still could be Liverpool.
Same applies to the Cup competitions too and every Club suffers set backs I could fill a page of Chelsea set backs over the years it’s the team sides of football and success and failure to hand in hand.

3rd May 2019 at 11:34 am #39745Mak, whatever you might think of Jose I think he’s spot on with his comments on Suarez he’s a Barca player and his loyalty and commitment are to Barca. Which is all he demonstrated on Wednesday night and Liverpool fans loved him for playing like that.?

3rd May 2019 at 3:22 pm #39779Anonymous“Winning the PL title means you have to be better than those youβre competing against whether the PL is won on 78 points or 98 points. ”
What? You say this like I’ve suggested that we win the PL by earning fewer points.
“There is no injustice whoever tops the PL after 38 games deserves the title”
Now, I just think you’re being a little belligerent. So many times today now you’re knit-picking and twisting words. perhaps this is why Sean’s jumped away?
Now, let’s look at what I said : “So, when you judge this sense of injustice, or whatever you want to call it.. it isnβt from nowhere that weβve gotten it.”
A sense of injustice is not the same thing as saying that there is an injustice, especially with the context from the comment that this is from (how the fanbase might FEEL). The context is really clear and there’s no way that you aren’t aware that I’m not saying that us finishing 2nd would be unjust.
Like Sean I think I will take some time away, since I cant seem to say anything without having my words twisted.
cheers

3rd May 2019 at 4:06 pm #39781Mak, if Liverpool finish 2nd it would be “unlucky” that they’ve come up against a team as good as City.
Still 2 games to go mate and the title turned on the last few seconds of the title race in 2012 when City scored twice in injury time it’s never over until it’s over.

3rd May 2019 at 5:25 pm #39782I haven’t read alot of this thread as I have been away since the game on wednesday night, but I’m seriously hoping Sean and Mak haven’t disappeared on us. From what I’ve read from going back a couple of pages I think Mak has been very reasonable in his summary of the game. We were unlucky on the night insofar as 3-0 in no way represented how the game went…except in the finishing of chances, and unfortunately that is how results are decided. How many other teams have more of the ball, more shots, more corners etc against Barca, especially at their own place? I’m dead proud of our performance the other night, and I’m still dreaming about the impossible. It’s not completely outlandish to imagine Liverpool being 2-0 up with 10 minutes to play next Tuesday. Look, like Mak, I know it’s 90% a pipedream, but you just never know! I’ll go on Tuesday hoping against hope.
So everyone can be emotional, everyone can take the piss, but I know Liverpool fans have had fun this season, and I wouldn’t swap places with any other fans at the moment, with the exception of City!!

4th May 2019 at 7:04 am #39790AnonymousNot gone anyway, I just needed some hours away. I get that it’s tiring talking about one club the whole time. We are a team that always has so much focus and drama coming inwards, not just out from our fans. There is always something to talk about with us but the thing is, if people grow tired of it, they must try and create other conversation pieces. We weren’t the only ones to play a CL match. Ajax should be a talking point.

4th May 2019 at 7:39 am #39795Pleased to hear it Mak I have always enjoyed reading your posts and exchanging posts with you we may not always agree be little point in football forums if we did but I think we agree on a lot more than we disagree on and I have great respect for you as a poster.
Liverpool are rightly top of mind at the moment they’ve had a great season and are competing on two fronts and who knows how it may end and it’s perfectly understandable that there is a great deal of focus on Liverpool currently.
You’re right though there are still 4 teams in the CL and Arsenal and Chelsea might make the EL Final so plenty to talk about on this thread. Cheers 999

4th May 2019 at 9:03 am #39797AnonymousCheers Nine, I’d reflect similar comments regards yourself. This place hasn’t many posters but I think the quality of the ones we have here is high. there are a few more from TT that would be well suited to come here of course but otherwise, there’s no comparison.
I will say though that there are only 3 teams left in the CL, with one lottery ticket. If people wanna say 4 that’s ok with me but it’s a sheer rock-face ahead and the tide is coming in.
