Nothing compares to European nights in the later rounds. I felt a little cheated by the Porto tie as they were no match for Liverpool. Look, we want our teams to progress first and foremost but you also want to see them play the best that Europe has to offer.
Ajax are a true dark horse for this tournament. You don’t knock out real and Juve if you’re not the real deal. I know Spurs fans won’t take them lightly but sections of the media still do, which is just weird.
As for Liverpool, we finally get to see Messi play against us. Our defence could have been better against Huddersfield. They will have to be at the peak of their abilities to keep Barca out. Fabinho is going to be very important here too but I’ve got a lot of confidence in this Liverpool side. We’ve got a very solid chance against this on form Barca, who just recently nailed down La Liga.
If we can hold our heads, this first tie could play right into our hands. Barca will be very confident in coming forward, leaving them open to be hit on the break. If their defence is as iffy as you hear, we could cause them problems.
Of course there is the chance that they will give our defence a challenge of the level that it hasn’t had to deal with yet and we might find ourselves in deep trouble. Ya, so i can really see Liverpool scoring 1 or 2 but the question is more on how many Barca score.

30th April 2019 at 11:15 am #39250Taking nothing was from Ajax who have been fabulous in the CL but Real are currently in a complete mess losing consistently even to the bottom team at the weekend.
I expect Real to ship out players to create funds and I wouldn’t be surprised to see their gross spend approach half a billion Β£’s in the Summer as ZZ starts to rebuild them.

30th April 2019 at 11:15 am #39251I was going to use the phrase ‘prepare for the worse and hope for the best’ but that would feel as through we’re fighting relegation, which we’re not.
I think first of all, a big pat on the back to both sets of teams in Spurs and Pool reaching this far. It prove, they are here on merit and their quality and efforts have so far paid off.
I’m with Mak on the point of having to be at our ultra best against Barca and I don’t really see despite this stage of the season, any signs of tiredness or any feel of ‘resignation’ from the players to head for the sunny beach.
We have to stand up and be counted for and play without any fear by asserting ourselves. I’d say 1-1 would be more than a decent result for us on the night.

30th April 2019 at 11:18 am #39252Liverpool will be Barca’s biggest test of the season and with due respect to both Spurs and Ajax I expect the winner of the CL to probably come from this tie.

30th April 2019 at 1:59 pm #39260Poch says he is βliving his dreamβ in the press conference. That really the best message to convey before their biggest game in a long time?

30th April 2019 at 2:11 pm #39261Can’t see a problem Mikus it is a massive game for Spurs their first Semi Final since 1962 and and a real chance of getting to the Final and if succesful in a one off game v Barca/Liverpool who knows?
Sometimes it’s written in the stars as Garry Neville famously said.

30th April 2019 at 2:23 pm #39263Nine, I donβt doubt that from the perspective of the fans, they are in a dream. But I donβt think the manager should be in a dream, particularly whenβs he not yet won anything. Would a winner like Fergie/Mourinho/Conte etc be coming out with things like this? Itβs too nicey nicey for me.

30th April 2019 at 2:32 pm #39265Lads @ ESPN are predicting an easy tie for Liverpool, and they believe Barca will struggle to score and I agree completely.
The mighty cocks/chickens from norff Landan should have to much for the weed-smoking,bicycle-riding,prostitution-loving chaps from Amsterdam

30th April 2019 at 2:33 pm #39266Mikus, I get where you’re coming from but Spurs were all but out at the Group stages and they wouldn’t have been expecting to go this far or to eliminate City and to play Ajax in a CL Semi Final in their new ground is probably a bit if a dream for all those connected with Spurs.
You wouldn’t rule out them getting to the Final either.

30th April 2019 at 2:37 pm #39267Mav, ha, ha isn’t ESPN an American TV Channel owned by Walt Disney? ?
I don’t think there are too many Liverpool fans who think the tie v Barca will be easy and that Barca will struggle to score. But we’ll see.
I do though think Liverpool will be a tough test for Barca and that whoever wins this tie will probably win the CL.

You have said this many times in years gone by and I hate to say, you’re rarely correct. I just do not think there is any merit to this statement at all.

30th April 2019 at 2:42 pm #39272Really Mak?
History disproves that because Neville was 100% right with what he said in 2012 and there are other instances Porto in 2004 and Liverpool in 2005. ?
However if you track back through my recent posts I have said that the winner of this season’s CL will probably come from the Barca v Liverpool tie!

30th April 2019 at 2:50 pm #39277Mav, Craig Burley,Robbie Earle and Shake Hislop? Lol.
Whoever said that is a fool and Barca deserve more respect than that.
But as I said ” I do though think Liverpool will be a tough test for Barca and that whoever wins this tie will probably win the CL.”
