Morning
A few thoughts.
Liverpool didnt deserve 3-0. But it could have been 5!
Incredible free kick. Messi was the difference.
VVD poor (for him) for the first goal.
Awful miss by Salah. 5 yds out, hits the post.
Klopp needs to think about his style of play. Too much long ball and crossing and not enough controlled possession.
Liverpool midfield needs improvement. Milner,Henderson not the answer at the top level. Ok v a crap Huddersfield side but not v a top side.
Thought Klopps use of subs questionable.
V difficult task now.You neverknow! Chip up anything is possible

2nd May 2019 at 8:54 am #39524Maybe to look on the bright side Adlab, we have the whole of 90 mins to recreate Istanbul. Allison needs to speak up and communicate with his defenders.
One thing I believe though, there’s no way we’re losing another game in succession. We’re similar to Man City and will bounce back straight away.

2nd May 2019 at 8:57 am #395253 nil flattered Barca they were happy to settle for 1 nil and they knew the nil was very important to them as it cost them the tie v Roma last season but with a player like Messi anything can happen and it did and Dembelle really should have made it 4 in the last minute of extra time.
Barca know it won’t be easy at Anfield the crowd will be up for it and Liverpool have great pace and energy but Barca have Messi and will be dangerous on the counter attack which is probably their greatest strength and it would be surprising if they didn’t score at least one so it will be a very hard task for Liverpool,it’s not impossible albeit it’s perhaps unlikely.

2nd May 2019 at 9:03 am #39526“Well, now the Champions League games are over, we can return to the more interesting “Wacky Races” for 3rd and 4th… can Spuds bet Bournemouth this weekend and secure one of those spots? Will YooUtd and/or Goonies drop enough points for the Spuds to secure one of those spots?” Stay tuned…?”
Not quite yet Chucksters both Arsenal and Chelsea have their own European Semi Finals to navigate tonight first.

2nd May 2019 at 9:07 am #39528I reckon we’re looking at a Barca vs Ajax final, and as much as I would love to see Ajax win it, a victory for football, it would be a brave man who bet’s against Messi picking up the pot now…

2nd May 2019 at 9:08 am #39529Actually, Goldie, I would love to see a Goonie/Chelski final for that, especially if they finish 5th & 6th in the Prem, one set of fans will be crying in their Monster Munch!! Can’t ask for more than that!! 🙂

2nd May 2019 at 9:18 am #39530Dixie Dean’s is English footballs record goal scorer with 383 goals which seemingly will never be beaten yet Lionel Messi has scored 600 goals for Barcelona the guy is a phenomenon and we are all privileged to have been around to see him play.

2nd May 2019 at 9:27 am #39535Steveo, best of luck for tonight mate and I really hope you guys can go as far as possible.
I get where both Oz and Sean come from that’s why they don’t go overboard.
With Klopp, we’ve had all this done to us before with Europa and The League Cup. It’s anguish in itself reaching the finals, but not actually winning it. The same when it comes to the League.
For me, I’m just effectively fed up with the same teams winning it and Barcelona lauded the way they are – never liked them since 2008.

2nd May 2019 at 9:35 am #39536Adlab, you say Klopp needs to change style and play more possession, why? He seems to be doing pretty well with the style he has. One defeat and we should try and copy City, is that it? There’s more to successful football, and also in my eyes entertaining football, than tippy tappy passing. Liverpool don’t have the players for that style anyway.
Having said all that, we had 52% possession against Barca, at the Nou Camp. Can’t all be long balls.

I mean in games v top sides. No not copy City thats daft. Its a point of view Ive heard expressed before. Sometimes- not always- you need to adapt your style. I felt last night was a case in point. The more Liverpool possezsio the less chance for Messi and co.
Do you not agree?_____________________________

2nd May 2019 at 9:44 am #39538Statistically, both semi’s were quite close, it’s all about the fine margins but at the end of the day, the only important statistic is in the “Goals scored” column… games aren’t awarded to teams with the most possession or most corners etc….
One thing that does grind my gears is this silly offside rules we have at the moment….
Going back to the Ajax goal, depending on your view, Trippier was playing the goal scorer on-side (or was he? It was very close!) and therefore counts in the grand scheme of things, yet there was an Ajax player standing in an “off-side” position only a couple of feet away but is deemed “not interfering with play”… leaving us with two players about 15 yards from the ball/goal scorer, yet one player counts and the other one doesn’t… this seems a bit stupid to me…

2nd May 2019 at 9:46 am #39539We dont really have the midfield for that. We are an energy based team and for most of the game it worked. Barca looked rattled and unable to cope then got a lucky break and a brilliant free kick. 3-0 flattered them on another day it could of been a draw or even a win for liverpool had luck gone differently and we had our shooting boots on.

2nd May 2019 at 9:54 am #39540Threeps. Absolutely right. What I think you need (and hopefully for us dont get) is a class midfield player who can change the pace of the game and make telling passes eg KDB? type of player or similar.
Just to say again the difference last night was Messi! Without him you would have won easily._____________________________

2nd May 2019 at 10:25 am #39541I wouldn’t say it’s the style as if anything, away from home against a Super outfit like Barcelona, 4 in Midfield is ideal.
We got caught short and honestly, that was ultra tight in space, but the precision in the delivery was second to none along with Suarez’s touch. In that instance, you would hope that your Keep is alert and shows his agility.
Unfortunately from our point of view, neither were the case.
I also felt the turning point for us was Naby Keita. The player Klopp hoped in being a finished article isn’t quite there because of him not being physically strong to be able to muster the aggression.
We needed a Leader and somebody to reaffirm the midfield. The other 2 goals in the second half was down to a degree in us losing our way and Barca on home soil showing their experience and acceleration to come out on top.
In games like these two, you need to take your chances and be clinical which uncharacteristically, both Mane and Salah didn’t.
Most of all, this tells me that we need to layer up on our depth and buy physically strong individuals like a centre half and another midfielder.
Somebody on here made a point on Aguero being a difference and if anything, Liverpool could do with a Top Class Striker as a Spearhead.

2nd May 2019 at 10:28 am #39542Chucks, adding to that, a Ref who actually has the courage to award a Penalty when it IS a Penalty, regardless of being at the Nou Camp.
