Mak, in terms of the Holy Grail, that’s basically a life-time ago.
We won 1 FA Cup and I Coca Cola Cup in the 90s.
Houllier won us 5 pieces of Silverware, followed by a Worthington Cup in 2003, Rafa won us a European Cup and an Fa Cup, and thereafter in the last 13 years, we’ve won 1 league Cup.
Man U, Chelsea meantime have creamed it. Arsenal in between have won cups, and Man City are joining in on the act.
I was taken aback today at work when a Leicester fan mentioned that he actually wants Liverpool to win it as being the new team in the PL. He like me is sick to the back teeth in the same old teams winning it.
This is really not good. We need to turn it around, but for now, it’s a real bitter pill to swallow.

1st May 2019 at 10:29 pm #39502AnonymousI dunno Nine. i think you might see a total meltdown from Liverpool fans now as they realise that their out is gone. The PL is a massive uphill task.. the Cl was always there to win if we couldnt etc but thats gone now.
great seasons need some kind of reward some time. we wont even make the final now.

1st May 2019 at 10:38 pm #39503Of course it’s meltdown. It’s a Catastrophe. No trophy no nothing. And for a long time, we’ve not lost as 0.
Free-kick, rebound off the bar, Matic beaten: what is all this?
We need to bounce back, but right now, this is still a lot to take.

1st May 2019 at 10:40 pm #39504Football isn’t syncronized swimming or ice-skating, you win pots by winning games, and if you don’t win enough of them, you don’t get any. If somebody, anybody, wins more games than you, then they win the pots… simple as a recipe for a cheese sandwich.

1st May 2019 at 10:44 pm #39505It’s simply a failure if there is no trophy to show for it.
All our hard work gone down the drain π

1st May 2019 at 10:48 pm #39507Mak, you were done by Messi but he can change a game in an instance.
I get that some saw potentially losing the title race to City would be potentially compensated by winning the CL and it’s not quite over yet but sometimes you have to take your hat off and say you couldn’t cope with Messi as so many others couldn’t despite Liverpool playing a good game especially in the second half.
Liverpool have to pick themselves up dust themselves down and start all over again on Saturday night there’s no shame to losing out to City and Barca if that’s the way it works out.

1st May 2019 at 10:56 pm #39508Fuck me how did we lose that game…and 3-0? Is it just me or were we the better side? Until we were in their penalty area. If Mo had not hit the post at 3-1 I would have given us a chance. But how many teams out possession Barca esp on their own patch? More shots, more corners…fuck me, 3-0 looks like a battering but we so deserves something tonight….really proud of the lads. Fab, Matip, Mane all superb. Gutted and we’re probably out, but goal in first 10 next week and I’ll believe we can do it. Bit pissed in bar near Bilbao soaube I’ve seen game wrong????

2nd May 2019 at 5:25 am #39511Anonymous“Itβs simply a failure if there is no trophy to show for it.”
Usually I could see where you’re coming from but I don’t agree this time. We’re in record breaking territory in terms of PL points. It’s definitely not a failure to end up with more points than the most successful Utd team ever.
I know you’re upset but that mindset must not get back to the players. They might think we’ve peaked and want to move on. As amazing as we are, there is still room for improvement and I think Klopp can give us that, if he goes into the market.
I think with Matip’s resurgence, he’s proven that he’s up to the task of being QUALITY back up and dare I say, even just straight up first team sometimes. He’s been our most improved player this season, I’m not counting Fabinho as he was settling in.
So, we don’t need to bu a single defender. Looking at midfield is a bit harder because we have discovered that there are solutions to old problems, however I don’t think it goes far enough. Shaqiri has no future at the club but the thing is, we need that type of player.. but obviously Klopp has to trust this player, or it doesn’t matter how good he can be sometimes, if he’s on the bench.
So I say we go back in for Fekir, or someone of his quality.
We also need competition and cover for the front lads. So I think the club have got to go buy a Β£60-80m player who can play one of those roles really strongly and cover the others to some quality. If you look at Salah and mane, they can play their positions and in a pinch, they could and have played in place for Firmino. Maybe we get someone who is a STR first, who has the quality to push the others for a place , or give us a chance to keep them fresh with a rest. Sign a good forward.
I’ll be honest lads. Last night felt just awful for me. It felt kinda unjust in one sense but also like a familiar wake up call. I can understand people venting cause it was a real gut-shot result.
Nine, I know what you’re saying about Messi being brilliant but my point is also valid. Messi didn’t stop us from scoring 1 or even 2. The rest of the Barca team did and also, we just weren’t clinical enough. Even one goal for us there gives us some small hope. We’ve next to none now, to the point where I wonder if we should rest players. I mean, I think we probably should but… Can you do it? The Pl is still achievable. I have a feeling that it’s a decision that a top manager would make, separating his feelings etc etc.. but then there is that 1 in 200 performance, where the lads start the game absolutely on fire and are 2-0 up in 10 minutes… remember them?
This is where the only meat remains of our season. This decision.

2nd May 2019 at 5:27 am #39512AnonymousHH man you didn’t see the game wrong etc, I think most feel like that. In many regards we matched Barca. That will all be forgotten though. I still think Klopp got it wrong and I’m surprised that others aren’t saying the same. Either I’m losing any touch i once had, or I’ve gone next level π
Seriously though man, look after yourself over there. There might be trouble in the streets.

2nd May 2019 at 6:48 am #39514I thought for most of the game we were the better team and Barca looked shocked that someone was willing to take the game to them.
3-0 feels hard to take because of way the boys played. First goal was a good cross and movement. VvD looked out of position and static but I also read Matip should of attacked the cross. Perhaps it was just good attacking play. 2nd goal was a good tackle from Fabinho that bounced off a Barca player onto Suarez’s knee, onto the bar then falls to Messi’s feet. Bad luck. 3rd goal a worldie of a free kick.
Obviously the free kick was great but I’m not going to jump on the game was changed entirely by the brilliance of Messi bandwagon. He didn’t dominate the game by any means, and as Mak pointed out the biggest influence to the scoreline was our own inability to hit the back of the net. I’m thinking the Mane chance from the superb Hendo cross, the Milner shot straight at the keeper from 12 yards and the triple miss and in particular Salah somehow hitting the post.
We are likely out but as HH says get an early goal and Anfield will be rocking. Get the fortune that they had yesterday and you never know.

2nd May 2019 at 7:27 am #39515Must say I thought weβd do a hell of a lot better than that. No doubt we have some top players in Mane, Salah etc but the likes of Messi & Suarez are just a level above & are truly world class match winners, they get the job done.
So no C/L & no EPL despite what I think most of us would consider a pretty good season, it seems weird.
Ultimately itβs another season of so close yet so far away in winning a major trophy. I suppose at the start of the season most predicted a city EPL title & either real or Barca for the C/L so itβs no real surprise.
The C/L has a lot of variables such as who you draw so itβs harder to predict but Iβll make a rough (obvious) prediction of another city EPL next season. Yeah I know Liverpool only need x,y or z to get over the line but they will strengthen & they are already ahead of everyone so another title for the moneybags next season.
Enjoy summer over there lads, itβs getting bloody cold here where I am & I hate it. Cheerio._____________________________

2nd May 2019 at 7:47 am #39516i do love a morning catch up of these pages especially when Nils hit the woodpecker π
my take on the game last night:
fantastic game for the neutral and much like the city/spuds game was a real proper game, 2 teams wanting to score and win, lots of skill all over the pitch.
Klopp got it wrong much like Poch did, Barca were just Barca, rode their luck then were clinical when it mattered.
It wasnt a 3-0 game though and pool should feel hard done by not to get an away goal but thats how it goes.
I had no issue with the ref, the Barca players overly being “european” to me it was just a great game (both teams) and a slightlky biased final score line, that said if Dembele could finish it could have been 5…..
understand the liverpoool frustratons and we all want to win trophies but not many can, id still be super happy wioth my team come season end as a pool fan but also very “by the grace of god, it could have been”….
unlucky lads, Roma turned it around last year though so its not out of the question

2nd May 2019 at 8:03 am #39517AnonymousI’m sorry oz but I just can’t hear this “no EPL” stuff right now. IT’S NOT FUCKING OVER. I get your stance on this but you keep saying it. It’s not going to become any more true by repeating something that is just not the case. You want to know what is done and dusted, it’s the CL. THAT is what over looks, feels and smells like. I have and will always back peoples right to have a negative opinion (I have one myself sometimes, Im no ray of sunshine) on how something will go but you’re constantly saying something is over…
We’re within a single poor result from City of winning the title. You don’t think we’ll do it and I get that but talking about it like it has already happened serves no purpose only to heighten the fallout from the CL, which needs a genuine miracle. I’m sorry if this reads harsh. I’ve said the same in a better way but it’s like people who proclaim it to be over are doing this team a disservice. They are still in the title race, nobody else comes even close. They drop any points and we’ll win the fucking league.. so come on man please.
As for this Barca result. I honestly am still struggling to accept it. it’s not any better this morning and I just feel hard done by. Barca were the better side in that they took their chances but we were a lot better than the scoreline not only suggests, but condemns us to. In order for us to overturn this on Barca, they’d have to get the same raw deal as us in the return leg and it isn’t often that you get such a raw deal, so we’re out.
This tournament is over, the PL is not. I had previously suggested that we rest players in the return leg and just make sure that we maximum points in the PL but the gap is actually enough that the lads will have recovered fine. So, we put out the full team and we absolutely go for it. That’s all we can do but it’s a fantasy.

2nd May 2019 at 8:20 am #39519Well, now the Champions League games are over, we can return to the more interesting “Wacky Races” for 3rd and 4th… can Spuds bet Bournemouth this weekend and secure one of those spots? Will YooUtd and/or Goonies drop enough points for the Spuds to secure one of those spots? Stay tuned… π

2nd May 2019 at 8:38 am #395203ps, my worst would have been settling for a 1-0 defeat. I wouldn’t have been disappointed; even 2-0, but 3-0.
We have goals in our locker, but we have now set ourselves up for one of those nights at Anfield. Should we pull that off, then our name is on the trophy for sure.
