Nine, it’s painful to say as a Utd fan but him and Klopp are so far ahead of anyone else at the moment. Although, like Poch, Klopp needs a trophy to really go up a level. He does have league trophies on his CV though, already to be fair to him

19th April 2019 at 2:30 pm #38132Ed-Easy mate,Pep has had every single season the GDP of Greece and Portugal to spend, and only winning the CL counts when you manage the likes of Bayern and/or City.As for United-yes we are crap, but OGS has just taken the reins! Poch beat Pep 1-0 in the st leg, with City having all that squad and so many world class players @ his disposition, and went to-to-toe with him in the return leg and lost 4-3,with so many players missing, inluding their best striker and their best holding midfielder forced out after a while with injury! You said it yourself on another thread, everybody is playing catch-up with City because of 2 things;they can afford to spend £500m on players every season, and not face the threat of losing their best players to Real & Barca every season, right? There was nothing debatable with that Spurse perfo, just City fans not accepting the facts, simples! Poch spanked Pep,hard & properly, lol. Imagine if Poch had £500m to waste every season….or Emery,or any other manager.Get Pep and that disease called Jose to manage Huddersfield,Cardiff or……

19th April 2019 at 2:42 pm #38135Ed, I don’t get why so many are so keen to put Pep down judged across his entire managerial career Read it again,9,ffs! ONLY DURING HIS TENURE @ BAYERN AND CITY- clear enough now???

19th April 2019 at 2:45 pm #38137Thats 6 [ SIX] years of failure in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE! 3 years @ Bayern, and 3 years and counting @ City-facts! Get Pep to manage Arsenal where you get told to only sign loan players-see how he fares.

19th April 2019 at 3:30 pm #38139But I forgot to mention the most important thing:there is always the possibility of players been forced upon the managers.i.e.Shevchenko,so with that in mind I apologise sincerely to Pep and City fans,if thats the case and Pep never chose to spend money on certain player.s! Apologies again!

19th April 2019 at 3:47 pm #38140Mav have you started drinking early because of Easter?! ?
500mil every season? Name me just one season where he’s spent anywhere near to 500mil. Just one…
Mav, was Ferguson a serial underachiever? He also failed many times to win the CL.
300mil is not a small amount, exactly. But that’s what Poch has spent and won zilch, nothing. My point was that Conte and Ranieri won the league having spent less than Poch has and with arguably worse squads.

19th April 2019 at 3:49 pm #38141I mean, I get the argument that Pep has underachieved in Europe. There’s an argument to be had there. But to then say Poch is the yardstick with which to measure other managers is, frankly, a joke!

19th April 2019 at 3:52 pm #38142Ranieri yes, but I’m not letting you put Conte in that bracket… Chelsea may have had a poor season the one prior to Conte taking over, but I think that was down to the team downing tools and acting like prats… pretty sure they won the title before that so the squad was full of winners/champions and certainly stronger than anything Poncho has ever had…
And as for Klopp having to “sell” his best players, I believe it was one player you might be referring to, a vastly overrated and has now been found out player, and they got silly money for him… and it hasn’t turned out too badly since… hardly a “hardship”…

19th April 2019 at 4:02 pm #38143Chucky, fair point on Klopp. I thought it was more than that but of course Suarez was pre Klopp. Still, at that time, Coutinho was considered Liverpool’s best player and one of the best in the league. 1 yes, but that’s 1 more top quality loss than Poch has had to deal with.
That Chelsea side Conte won the league with better than this Spurs side? I’m not sure I agree there. Far from the vintage sides Chelsea have put out over the last 15 or so years. Besides, Conte had what, 1 season to turn them into winners. Poch has had 5 and wants another 10 for that.

19th April 2019 at 4:20 pm #38144Edy-Not using Poch as a yardstick with which to measure all the managers, just that Poch got the better of Pep,restricted City to 1-0 in the 1st leg,and after going toe-to-toe in the return leg, lost 4-3,while missing their best player!
So,going by the rule of players moving on from team to team, every club should field 11 players from their own academy, right? An yes, what Ranieri did was a miracle!_____________________________

19th April 2019 at 4:25 pm #38147Conte was/is a brilliant manager-imho! Wanted Conte to be given the job before he went to Chelsea, and I would love for him to take over United. He would have sorted out those overpaid fuckers like Pogba.

19th April 2019 at 4:50 pm #38148Chucky, oh because Mourinho was always afforded the luxury of “context” with the rubbish he came out with wasn’t he?! I’m afraid context is not going to change what he said. Here’s the full quote if you haven’t seen it:
“We have to look at ourselves and maybe assess ourselves in different ways – we are not looking for excuses.
“It is holding us back and it might take five years’ work, 10 years’ work to change that.”
10 bloody years!
