What a heroic perfo from the chaps from nuvvern Landan last night! Son-what a player, keep saying it.Didnt Poch said after the 1st leg that Kane will be back for the CL final? Premonition, slip of the tongue,Buffy any ideas as to what he knew/meant???
Really hope Spurs get all their players back.

18th April 2019 at 10:28 am #37995Actually we were all over the place for the first 20 minutes or so. If Porto had a striker that could actually strike the ball well then we would of been in trouble.

18th April 2019 at 11:22 am #37997Adlab, to be fair it was tough on City but VAR proved both decisions to be correct if Aguero hadn’t missed that penalty in the first leg you would have been home and dry Llorente disputed goal or not.

18th April 2019 at 11:34 am #37998Spursβ new stadium arguably played a big part in all this – is that why Pep played more conservatively in the first game? Perhaps others could confirm this but looking at the images of it from the inside, there is somewhat of a intimidating/claustrophobic feel to the new stadium. Could prove a difficult ground to go to for the opposition. Wonder how many more points Spurs would have now had they been there from the start of the season? A good few Iβd say.

18th April 2019 at 11:49 am #38001‘Clear and obvious mistakes’. That is what VAR was brought in to sort out. None of those issues last night were clear and obvious as half the decisions they make ate still subjective and a matter of opinion. It’s crap
But anyway looking forward, 2 good semi finals coming up, and the big question of what effect will last night’s result have on City. I kind of think it will spur them on in the league as there is a real danger their season will be seen as a failure if they don’t win the league. Also emotionally and physically Spurs must be spent after last night so it may be difficult to lift themselves again. But God, I’d love them to help us on Saturday!!

18th April 2019 at 12:14 pm #38002My final word on this.
Good luck to Spurs in the semi.It was handball by Llorente but very hard to pick unless you have the TV pictures, slomo and the correct frames. That was NOT given to the referee so you cant blame him. VAR is a technical system and is only as good as its operators. We suffered last night through poor operating.
I think the Daily Mail article sums it up well.I hope we give them a pasting on Saturday! I also hope that the players are all so angry they will go on to win every remaining game. We’ll see!

This is it. I think both sides of the argument have very strong cases, I find myself agreeing to both. I think what we need is time. We need to push forward with VAR in the hopes of improving it but we’ve got to remember the entire “spirit of the game” argument and not lose track of that. The last thing we need is to have the sport end up where people are scoring goals and by habit not celebrating before the 2 minute procedure gives it the go ahead.
It has to be sped up but also, the heart and soul of football is in the celebration of goals and this must be preserved as much as possible.

18th April 2019 at 1:12 pm #38005Anonymous“It remains to be seen whether City not having a two legged CL Semi final to play and Liverpool having to play two games against Barca will have an effect on the title race or not.”
It will have an effect Nine but I’m delighted to be in this situation and wouldn’t trade it for anything else. I think what Liverpool must do next season is to have more strength in depth. We’re not paper thin though either. Remember that we’ve been playing a more reserved brand of football too.

18th April 2019 at 1:13 pm #38006Mak, a key part of this development will be to re-evaluate what VAR was *supposed* to do – i.e. as HH said above – overturn βclear and obviousβ mistakes. A big problem however is that now we *have* the technology and *ability* to officiate the game down to the millimetre, it poses the question to the VAR referees – do we then punish mistakes down to the smallest details like with the offside last night? – which then conflicts with the βclear and obviousβ instruction. It is pivotal that this issue is resolved before VAR comes in next season – and that VAR is used only in times of clear and obvious mistakes – as was initially defined.

18th April 2019 at 1:13 pm #38007Sorry Adders, but if incidents like Llroetnetnee are given as handball, we might as well stop playing the game… it barely brushed his arm, and the ball went in the goal of his hip.

18th April 2019 at 1:32 pm #38010lets clear this up….it hit his arm…YES, then his hip…was it handball? NO not THIS season, this season they are using Silhouette rules…..his arm was in no way doing anything that could be construed has hand ball, especially for a bloske leaping in the air……
next season where ANY ball to hand hand to ball contact nmeans penalty….
suck it up adlab, i feel for you mate i really do ANY one of us if that was our team on either decision would be upset as in years gone by you would have won and been through, but times they are a changing, like it or not

The ball hitting someone’s hand/arm is not the same as it being handball. It’s possible for the ball to strike someones arm and go into the goal and count. it’s all about intention to use your arm, not on whether it’s been hit off it.
It 100% was not handball.

18th April 2019 at 1:50 pm #38013AnonymousMikus, there is no way that VAR will have those issues ironed out before the PL brings it in next season. It’s something that will likely take a decade to get to a really good level.
For now, I’m still happy with it, even if I see the points HH is making against it.
I see the next few seasons as being a kind of discovery for it. In order to fix the bugs, you must expose them. We’ll see some situations like last night and others that we haven’t thought about yet and it’ll get discussion going on the process and it’s in here that the solutions will come from. maybe a little at a time.

18th April 2019 at 1:52 pm #38014AnonymousMav, I think if Pep is still destroying the PL, he might stay on a bit longer. Liverpool could definitely have done without him this season and that can’t be ignored by the people who pay his wages.
