18th April 2019 at 9:19 am #37974Hightown, can understand where you are coming from but I have to agree with Nil that VAR is there to serve a greater purpose. Imagine if Sterlings goal was given and then Spurs fans had to watch it over and over again on TV relays? They would be understandably livid that they were robbed of a first Champions League semi-final and a good chance of winning it.
As someone who no longer goes to matches but instead watches from the comfort of the living room I think it adds excitement, almost like pantomime. I want to ref to indicate his decision by use of a Roman Emperor style thumbs up or down just to add to drama. But again, can understand the frustration and confusion VAR causes in the stadium. It’s not perfect, maybe never will be, but it was used in 3 decisions last night that an unaided human couldn’t call and got them all correct.

The VAR is only as good as its operators??
Bluntly we were cheated out of the tie and it leaves a sour taste. Not Spurs fault._____________________________

18th April 2019 at 9:23 am #37976I’ve seen the video where you can see the ball hit the elbow and the arm moves with the impact, but still not a pen. He was moving his arm away and it brushed it on the way to hitting his hip which forced it over the line. No intention, arm in a natural position, not the decisive contact, not a pen.

18th April 2019 at 9:25 am #37977Brian, ive factored in your FA Cup Final, but that will be obviously after the domestic is complete.
Our semi is sandwiched between Huddersfield at home and Newcastle away.

18th April 2019 at 9:29 am #37979We just didn’t know whether we were coming or going in fairness to last night’s game.
VAR sort of intervened out of the blue which heightened to that nature of excitement.
Obviously dismay though to Man City who thought for a moment it was triumphant for them.

18th April 2019 at 9:30 am #37981People complain about Bad Refereeing, and some don’t like VAR.
So what other solutions are there?

18th April 2019 at 9:31 am #37982I have stated from the start the Quad is not on for City but it was a cruel way to go out.
VAR is here to stay, like it or not, Mikus had it right earlier, it may become farcial and the length of time it takes must be improved on. In the end it also comes down to a persons opinion even with the available technology and here is the problem. It will bring improvement in time but it is going to be frustrating until the learning curve is complete_____________________________

18th April 2019 at 9:39 am #37983What about Caraboo, what about Community Shield….these are games played no matter what you think about them as status. If you calculate CL then you have to calculate all the games played in the season not selective ones. Well done to Pool though for getting through to Semi

18th April 2019 at 9:43 am #37984Adlab you werenβt cheated out of it. It wasnβt handball.
I agree with nine, pep got it wrong as he had done a few times in the cl
Ciry have had huge incorrect decisions go there way this season. As difficult as it is to take, the decisions were right
Poor approach to the game last weekS
Var got all the calls right.
Hightown disagree. Mane was inside. It was a good call

18th April 2019 at 9:58 am #37986Brian, you’re right City have more games in their legs than any other team.
Between now and the end of the season Liverpool now have 6 games to play and City 5. I would discount the Cup Final having any impact on the title race as that comes after the title has been decided.
It remains to be seen whether City not having a two legged CL Semi final to play and Liverpool having to play two games against Barca will have an effect on the title race or not.
Much will now depend on City bouncing back from last nights disappointment if they do and City firstly beat Spurs and then United it will probably be all but over that’s the challenge for City now.
Commiserations anyway mate on last night did the radio go through the window? π

18th April 2019 at 10:00 am #37987Adders, if that was deemed “handball” and shouldn’t be allowed, dare I ask your thoughts on Kompany’s handball that wasn’t even reviewed, because that certainly hit his arm too…
(I’ll save the “dangerous” play by wee Bernie in the first minute, shoving Rose into the boards…)

18th April 2019 at 10:00 am #37988Brian, I wasn’t expressing my thoughts on the fixtures as a dissatisfaction, but merely pointing out what’s presented in light of the turn of events from last night.
City’s main focus between now and the rest of the season is the league. The FA Cup Final is parked as a ‘curtain drawer’ though it has been arranged a week after our domestic season finishes.
Having looked out the ‘state of play’ with fixtures, I think we’re okay with Huddersfield to play on a Friday, then Barca away on the following Wednesday. My guess is that they’ll probably fly out over the weekend and that will allow them ample time for match preparation.
Newcastle away is on a Sunday, though our return match at Anfield is on the following Tuesday so that could be tricky, but at that point for us, I hope both Gomez and Oxlaid return to action.

18th April 2019 at 10:05 am #37989If anything, I only wish VAR was in place last season. Ramos got away with havoc and he shouldn’t have even been on the pitch.
Not to cause a stir as such but if VAR was filtered across our domestic campaign then perhaps they’d be a handful of clubs out there that may have their decisions overturned.
Going forward, I don’t see it as a disruption as a few make out, but essentially for the key instances such as offside, diving, handball, and infringement.

18th April 2019 at 10:16 am #37990Kompany handball. Thought at the time he was lucky not to be given at least a VAR.
Doesnt take away from a poor VAR review. Just had another look in slomo. Kompany one difficult to tell but might well have been_____________________________

Spurs deserved to go through over the both legs. Iβd blame your manager instead of saying you were cheated out of it
