Sean, you are correct. If we get through Porto, we will draw one of Utd or Barca. My guess is that Nil is unaware of the draw for the semi’s happening at the same time as the quarters. It caught me out at the time too.

8th April 2019 at 9:20 pm #37045Sean, only just seen your reply now mate. You and Mak are both right.
I must have been caught out. We’re classed as Quarter Final 2, and the tie involving Man-U-Barca are 4, so yes, we’d meet either or. I think I’d actually now prefer to play United.
Food for thought haha π

9th April 2019 at 11:46 am #37066JC reckons Klopp will focus on the PL and rest players???

9th April 2019 at 12:28 pm #37067Mav, thatβs easier said than done. To rest players in a CL semi final?? I struggle to see it. Thatβs the big problem with the CL for weaker clubs – it is a huge distraction that is impossible to resist.

9th April 2019 at 1:34 pm #37069To be fair I reckon Klopp could get away with resting one or two v Porto whatever team within reason Liverpool put out v Porto I can’t see Liverpool not winning.
Shame Liverpool’s Qtr Final clashes with the Spurs v City game that one is just too appetising to miss for all but the Liverpool fans.

9th April 2019 at 4:48 pm #37098AnonymousI don’t look at it as a luxury of Liverpool being able to rest players but more that we have no choice but to. Wijnaldum for me is probably 3rd best Liverpool player this season, behind Van Dijk and Mane. even with Mane, it’s only just, I think. Another day I might call it another way. Had Fabinho consistently played the way we know he can then he’d probably be in 2nd place but maybe that’s for next season.
Wijnaldum is burning out though and needs to be rested immediately. If he starts tonight, I’ll be disappointed. We are going to need him at his best if we’re to win the PL, or also the CL. We’ve got to fully respect Porto but not to the point where it will cost us in future matches.
We’ll be without Robertson also, which probably means Moreno will start, with Milner replacing Wijnaldum. Moreno worries me and if he worries Klopp, i guess we can go with Milner back there.
Potential team :
TAA – Matip – Van Dijk – Milner
Henderson – Fabinho – Keita
Salah – Firmino – ManeI mean that could work. Keita might do well against non-PL opposition, especially after scoring the last day. The pressure isn’t completely off him but he might feel a little lighter.
Gomez has been delayed yet again in coming back, for another 2 weeks. I had a bad feeling about his injury before but something is definitely wrong there. I could only guess but for whatever reason he just doesn’t heal well when injured.

9th April 2019 at 4:49 pm #37099Right, off to the game now. Disappointed I’ll miss the City-Spurs game in some ways, but I hope the tie is still up in the air for the second leg. Could do with City being a couple down going back to the Etihad, so they don’t have the opportunity to rest anyone…and a little hamstring pull for Aguero or KDB wouldn’t go amiss either!! Nothing too serious…just enough for them to miss a couple of league games! That should be enough to rile a few of the purists on here (smiley face!!)

9th April 2019 at 4:51 pm #37100Mak, I don’t think there is a chance in hell of Moreno starting. Doubt we’ll ever see him in a starting line-up for the Reds again. It’s got to be Milly surely!

9th April 2019 at 4:52 pm #37101AnonymousOh and on the discussion of who I’d prefer in the semi’s.. I’m sorry but no way in hell do I want to be facing Utd. Yes, Barca are more likely to knock us out but they are also a bigger scalp. We come to the CL to play European sides and although I’d be shitting myself over Barca, I would also massively look forward to it. besides, you’ve got to wonder if the Barca B team can beat the main ones π
I don’t wanna get too far ahead of myself though and I definitely hope the lads aren’t thinking about this. They’ll have to respect Porto if they want to go through. These lads dumped out Roma in the previous round, so although they are likely the easiest tie left, they are no joke.

9th April 2019 at 5:03 pm #37108I really believe that Barca are extremely reliant on an old & tired Messi. They will of course spank us,but Liverpool,City and Spurs do indeed have what it takes to beat them.

9th April 2019 at 5:33 pm #37110“an old & tired Messi.” So old and tired Mav that Messi has 43 goals and 21 assists this season!

9th April 2019 at 6:06 pm #37115I think Mav is alluding to same old same old last 10 years same old Messi and just for once, stop placing him on a Pedestal, play fearlessly and do everything you can to beat Barcelona.
