My understanding of the rules is quite simple. If the ball strikes a “hand/arm” that is in any way shape or form NOT tucked under an armpit then it’s a peno these days… doesn’t seem to be any common sense about the speed the game is being played or direction of the ball or how much a half-time pie is. If Rose’s was a Peno, then I think TAA/POOL/NIL got away with one (and fair play to ’em!)
The bigger issue is how on earth Linoal Salah stayed on the pitch after that tackle!

10th April 2019 at 2:57 pm #37271I love it when Silly-Willy-Nilly gets all exicted!!
And as Adders proved last night, everybody views their own team through Rose “Handball” tinted glasses! 🙂

10th April 2019 at 3:07 pm #37272Mav, I’ve had enough mate it’s beyond ridiculous that I now go out of my way not to comment on any Liverpool related matches or issues for fear of triggering another ridiculous reaction from Nil.
What makes today even worse than usual is that my posts were all VAR related.

10th April 2019 at 3:37 pm #37277Anonymous“Sean, didn’t know it was reviewed mate. Given the new UEFA rules surprising it wasn’t given. But goodness knows how many pens will be conceded next season if these rules are applied to the PL. ”
I was genuinely worried that under the rules it would be given last night, knowing it wasn’t really a penalty offense. I’m glad they saw sense though and I’ll hope for more of it with VAR in future but it’s certainly a HUGE worry and something that could undermine my support for VAR completely.
“and don’t be daft I wasn’t moaning about anything my post was about the uncertainties and inconsistencies of VAR.”
I’ll put my face where it doesn’t belong (even though it does cause we all read most comments).. but it was very clear that you were talking about general concerns and not having a go or whatever..
As for Salah, yes I think he should have been sent off. I think he should also get credit for staying on his feet when very clumsily challenged in the box that time. if he falls, 100% it was a peno but he just wanted to score and honestly, this is what we want from players right? So when we vilify them for going down easy, or completely diving.. surely we must credit them for not taking a legitimate option and instead trying to continue to play the feckin game.
There’s an argument that him not going down could come back to haunt us but I’m only interested in this situation some times. most of the times it’s better to stay on your feet.

10th April 2019 at 3:50 pm #37278AnonymousI havent seen the Danny rose incident, so I have less to go n but judging by the comments from people on here, it doesn’t bode well. If under any rules or interpretation, people are willing to consider TAA’s incident to be a penalty for handball, then we’ve got problems.
I think back to the Utd one and I know i was heavily biased that night. I loath PSG, so I was going for Utd (funny isnt it). I wanted that to be a penalty but if that happened against Liverpool I’d be up in arms and that’s the concern. if the rules are headed this way then we WILL see these things going against us all… and at crucial times.
VAR will still clean up a lot of rubbish. mane’s goal last night WAS offside. he was inches off but he was off all the same. if it happened against us, we’d all be shouting offside, rightly so… VAR cleans those calls up if they are wrong. They will also spot most diving in the box.
So when we think about the potential nightmare, we’ve got to consider this stuff too.

10th April 2019 at 3:55 pm #37279Micky… as I posted last night, even the City players were lining up for the corner with regards to the Rose handball, that’s got to tell you something…
And to continue your other comment, I think it shows what a sad state the game has come to with regards to “stimulation” when we’re even contemplating congratulating players for not cheating…

If VAR don’t even think Lionel Salah should have gone, then there’s your answer ⚽️??

10th April 2019 at 6:03 pm #37282Lino Salah, ’cause he’s as slippery as fook when you’re wearing socks… I like that!

10th April 2019 at 6:32 pm #37283Chucks, we’re living proof of it on this message board (the bit on open for debate) 😛 And it seems some have questioned officiating on the so-called handball concerning us and Mo Salah’s incident.
Club bias to one side, you say I’m talking rubbish, but I beg to differ. People haven’t mentioned anything about when Salah remains on his feet yet the moment we put a foot wrong, people go on their high horses.
I then by honour defend that and then I get made the look the bad guy when practically the entire day I’ve been at work and hardly been on these forums!

10th April 2019 at 7:08 pm #37285Silly-Willy-Nilly, your “problem” as such, is you take it all a bit too personal. Yes, regardless of who it is, I think it’s a sad state of affairs when we, as football fans, are at the stage when players are now “praised” for not cheating, think about it!! And, yes, under the letter of the law (and it’s a stupid law!) how come Rose was punished and TAA not punished? Ignore the colour of the shirts and simply look at it from a “double-standards” point of view. Nobody is having a pop about TAA getting away with because he happens to play for Liverpool, (should I start suggesting Rose only got penalized because he plays for Spurs?), everybody is having a pop about the “double standards” of VAR, it just happens the player who got away with it happens to play for Liverpool. You need to remember, and more than a few of us on here have pointed it out, most non-Liverpool fans don’t really care about Liverpool as such, but we do care about the current and apparent double standards of the VAR system itself.

10th April 2019 at 7:32 pm #37289Chucks, I’m simply counteracting and rightly defending my club. It’s not about praise, it’s the Ref not actually recognizing what went on in the first place on Salah staying on his feet.
I’m no snowflake mate, but what do see often is opposition supporters from a few quarters online quick to dig out and highlight such incidents where quite frankly, nothing in it and that in itself reflects why no action was taken.
I do think I’m slightly banging my head against a brick wall where your own stance is concerned.
So that in itself means a redundant discussion and instead my attention is on tonight’s game and enjoyment.?⚽️?
