That’s it Sean. I’ve found myself even kind of taking Gini for granted this season. If you remember back about 2 years ago, it was largely yourself and me, on TT trying to convince a few on there of just how good he was playing.
I’m not meaning to sound like a know it all. It’s actually understandable that people were questioning his input, as he was styled as an attacking midfielder when he came from Newcastle.
I don’t know why but I took to him pretty much instantly. Sometimes you get to really WATCH a game and other times , like tonight, you’re half watching it. There is sometimes an advantage to watching games alone at home, instead of pubs, as there would be with watching them live, as opposed to TB, in some situations (positional stuff I guess)…
There isn’t a player in the PL who is better at holding onto the ball than Wijnaldum. This might seem like such a BS skill but he draws people onto him and out of position. That ability to release the ball, gives us the opportunity to exploit the now vacant space.
It’s not easy to catch these things if you’re talking to your mates or have anything else going on but Klopp said that Wijnaldum is the perfect midfielder and he bloody sees why. He’s been using him as a way to seed a play for so long.

10th December 2019 at 9:18 pm #56368Just come back off an evening shift – was getting the updates through my Phone. Salah’s Goal: Waaahlaaah what can one say. I can only remember Steve McManaman scoring a goal like this in the 90s.
Nothing to worry about anyhow as we get the job done 🙂 🙂

10th December 2019 at 9:58 pm #56372Phew! Chelsea made that a lot harder than it should have been and Ajax out and in the EL is the big surprise of the night.

11th December 2019 at 1:06 am #56376AnonymousAnyway, I’m really relieved to be through. Those lads gave a great account of themselves. I am also pleased that Gomez got some minutes. I know that he is meant to have something going on that may end his Anfield career but if he can just get a run in the team and start getting back to his old form…
I bang on about a few players. For me, there is more under-rated than Gomez, in the entire PL. Any position, any team.

11th December 2019 at 7:18 am #56380Tough on Ajax going out of the CL on 10 points.
I was really impressed with Ajax in their two games v Chelsea and they were a whisker away from making the CL Final last season. They’ll be a threat in the EL now though.

11th December 2019 at 10:12 am #56389Excellent performances all round the pitch from the Reds last night. Keita, VVD, Sadio and Hendo were particularly impressive I thought. Salzburg are a great team to watch though. The way they came at us straight from the start suggested they’d indulged in more than a few of their energy drinks in the dressing room prior to kick off. Could easily have been 4-4 at half time. But once we scored the fight went out of them pretty quick. But they will be dark World!horses in the Europa League, especially if they can keep hold of all their players.
It was strange last night watching the game…it was not going out of the Champions League that worried me, it was the thought of dropping down to Thursday night football and the impact it could have on the Premiership.
Still, job done, Watford on Saturday and then the World!

11th December 2019 at 10:47 am #56391So Chelsea can get Bayern, PSG, Barcelona, Juventus and Leipzig in last 16. Liverpool can get Real Madrid, Lyon and Dortmund and likely Shaktar and Atletico Madrid. There is going to be some tasty last 16 matches, methinks. I’d prefer Lyon to the other alternatives, I’m thinking Chelsea would like Leipzig, Spurs would prefer Valencia, and City, like us, would prefer Lyon or maybe Napoli.
Some great teams in the hat – roll on February!

11th December 2019 at 2:32 pm #56428Got a feeling Chelsea will draw Sarri’s Juventus.
I think Chelsea going further in the CL would mean Chelsea punching above their current weight without they can get one of two in January which improves the team/ squad in key areas.
Only City and Liverpool are genuine CL contenders from the PL imo without Jose can work some of his Inter magic on Spurs.?

11th December 2019 at 7:07 pm #56468Another joke decision by UEFA officialdom – red card all day long. Why have VAR if you’re not going to use it properly?

11th December 2019 at 8:22 pm #56478Good pro performance from City with youngsters in as well. I have been wanting City to play Foden and Garcia all season. I think they made a big point to night, Plus another waiting to come in. We no longer need CBs, we have our two youngsters, this season maybe a little late for EPL results but next season with Laporte and Rhodri operating with them they should do well I would certainly play the three of them in the Cup games
