I’ve said it so many times before, I don’t like getting a seemingly too easy group. It’s definitely not great after winning the tournament outright , last season. We find ourselves in a position where we are 90 minutes away from being out. We’re not playing at home but we’ve only got ourselves to blame.
Admittedly, it is a bit odd to have this many points and be facing elimination but Genk have proved to be incredibly poor opposition and are really just unworthy of playing in this tournament.
The PL is the main priority but I love the CL and will be very deflated to see us just stroll out of the competition. We have one more 90 minutes in which to show our intentions though, so our fate remains in our hands and I hope that Klopp and the boys can deliver. If not, I’ll still be grateful for last season’s win and even the final appearance the year before. The Cl is special and we need to continue to treat it as such.
Best of luck to the other British teams. I will usually route for a PL side, as long as it doesn’t get in our way (except Utd, although I honestly fee;l this changing at this stage, which doesn’t say great things about them).
Anyway, let’s hope to keep those Co-efficient points rolling in boys!

10th December 2019 at 6:04 am #56271There seems to be a lot of conflicting reports on what Liverpool actually need to qualify/drop to the EL. I just read Nine’s post and think he has it wrong.
Assuming Napoli beat Genk (Liverpool qualify no matter what if they don’t) then:
Liverpool go out to any loss to RBS with a 2 goal margin or any 1 goal margin until 5-4 (which is then better away goals than RBS 4-3 loss at Anfield).
Official order:
Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
Away goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams;
Goal difference in all group matches;
Goals scored in all group matches;
Away goals scored in all group matches;
Wins in all group matches;
Away wins in all group matches;
Disciplinary points (red card = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion for two yellow cards in one match = 3 points);
UEFA club coefficient.After that if still no winner they get the managers to nude wrestle to the death in a giant tub of Jelly.

10th December 2019 at 8:52 am #56282AnonymousAh, so we could lose 1-0 and go through? Ok so it’s not as bad as I thought. Thanks man, fingers crossed!

10th December 2019 at 9:03 am #56283No, lose 1-0 we go out.
Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams; 3 points each
Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams; 0 GD each
Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams; 4 goals each (think this will always be the same if the above is!)
Away goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams; 3 for SB, 0 for us.We would go out on away goals in the head to head. If it ends 4-3 then we have the same away goals we would go out on goal difference in the group games.
So a 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 or 4-3 loss, or by 2 goals or more, Liverpool go out (assuming Napoli beat Genk).

10th December 2019 at 10:56 am #56297threeps, I think it’s decided on head to heads if the points totals are tied and you’re right on that basis one nil would take RZ through courtesy of the 3 goals RZ scored at Anfield.
Tricky game but I think Liverpool will probably come through it ok.

10th December 2019 at 11:22 am #56298If Liverpool lose: If Liverpool lose they can still go through if Napoli lose to Genk. If Liverpool lose and Napoli draw or win then their position is under threat because of an inferior head-to-head record with the Serie A side. The only defeat that could see Liverpool still go through in the event of a Napoli draw or win would be if they bettered the three goals Salzburg scored against them in the Reds’ 4-3 victory earlier in the group – eg in a 5-4 or 6-5 defeat. (A 4-3 win for Salzburg would see the Austrians go through because of their superior goal difference).
Liverpool should be too good and win and take this out of the equation I would have thought. Good luck anyway lads.

10th December 2019 at 11:24 am #56299An early goal for Red Bull would certainly make in interesting for us neutrals though… 🙂

10th December 2019 at 1:40 pm #56302Very unlikely that Genk will beat Napoli Genk have yet to win a CL game and have just one point.
I think Salzburg away is a tricky away game for Liverpool but they’re not Champions League winners for nothing and I think they will come through providing they are on or near their level.

10th December 2019 at 1:58 pm #56305It wouldn’t be a Liverpool Champions League campaign without a last game of the group stage nail-biter! Although we have triumphed in the past one day it won’t go our way and we’ll end up having to play Thursday evenings. If this would happen this time it could seriously hamper the league campaign.
I think we’ll do it. We played some scintillating stuff in the reverse fixture before the whole team decided to take a nap and let them get back to 3-3. Hopefully they will be more focused this time. I’m going for a comfortable 2-0 or 3-0 with a nice early goal to settle any nerves.

10th December 2019 at 2:32 pm #56310Buffy, buffy, buffy… we’ve already had our pants pulled down by ze Girmans once already this season, what more do you want? To be honest I’m half expecting, as it’s a dead rubber and counts for about as much as tits on a fish, Spuds to win 4-0 or something… which would be utterly pointless… hopefully Maureen rests a few of the big-dogs for Sunday against the Puppies (that’s Wolves by the way, for those of you who think I’m obsessed with Frank’s Wee Boys… you know who you are!! 🙂 )

10th December 2019 at 5:06 pm #56327Keita starting tonight. Thought Jurgen would play safe with Milner, but guess he’s planning on taking the game to the Austrians.

10th December 2019 at 5:20 pm #56330AnonymousMaybe Klopp is rewarding some good moments from the last game. Perhaps a run in the side might see him gain a bit of confidence and sharpness. I’m just tense though. A friend of mine is potentially very ill (waiting to hear), my landlord was doing unscheduled work in our building, knocking etc. Oh man, I could really use a beer I guess but… i made a pot of coffee instead., for now perhaps.
Hope we can win tonight.

10th December 2019 at 5:20 pm #56331Could put in an inspired display what with being an ex RBS player. Conversely he could have an almighty Moreno sized brain-fart and gift a goal or two to his former employers.
