Disagree with that one, Adders, in fact I think the exact opposite, interest would grow even more… worst case scnerio you get relegated for a season (no way you’re not coming straight back up!) and then it will be all about the “Revenge of City” when you get back, or you might get a 30 point deduction, then it will all be about “Can they make the CL spots?”… don’t think for one minute the brand will be damaged, it will just all be hyped about how City cope with whatever punishment they get…

7th February 2023 at 5:41 pm #203967Banjo, they can’t relegate city to championship, PL can expel from league but can’t just dump teams in to division below. Wouldnt be fair on any championship team with aspirations of promotion next year do you think they would vote to invite city in?
I don’t think we will see expulsion. I think points deduction and ban on registering players for 2 years will be the kind of punishment given IF the commission find them guilty of most of the serious charges

7th February 2023 at 6:00 pm #203970Hey, I don’t want to see City relegated, that’s a guaranteed 3 points we’d lose every time they visit! π
My point was, too many new *sub-plots* for the brand to be diluted…

7th February 2023 at 9:22 pm #203972Actually agree with this. Jordan; straight-talking even if you don’t necessarily want to hear what he has to say.

7th February 2023 at 9:28 pm #203973Personally, I don’t see the Titles being stripped off Man City. From my clubs’ POV, I don’t want them. What I do want to see is though is severity in punishment and that’s not a fine and a measly 10 point deduction. They should pay the price, properly.

8th February 2023 at 9:37 am #203979Ever since this has broke, I just think there’s been a dark cloud hanging as far as football goes. We need some action. City’s first game since this luckily for them is at home.

8th February 2023 at 9:53 am #203981Can see them coming out the blocks now, for the rest of the season, just to annoy the FA (I think we all doubt is will be sorted by seasons end!)… bad luck for the Goonies, but makes the next couple of weeks a bit more interesting for us neutrals!

8th February 2023 at 12:42 pm #203990Of course mate. From a pure pitch side of it all, they’ll play and do what they’re paid to do. The sport feels though, tarnished.

8th February 2023 at 3:14 pm #203993Good discussion, highlight for me is around 19 mins 35 secs when Gary neville spends a few minutes discussing FFP and I agreed with every word.

8th February 2023 at 5:08 pm #203994Just speaking to a barrister friend who deals with commercial cases. (Arsenal supporter).
He said, given the lack of detail, that subject to appeal and possible judicial review and any other mechanism available, given City have nothing to lose, this case could conservatively take years. His feeling will be a deal.
He also said the uninformed press comment will not help the EPL case. He also said he wished he would be doing the case as the costs could be millions. He then informed me Arsenal are going to win the league.

8th February 2023 at 5:12 pm #203995Yeah, good find Lucky. Gary’s clear in his speaking and he is easy to follow and understand.
There’s talk once again about titles being stripped, but what we need is The FA to come forward in official capacity and communicate with the rest of us, what are the next steps of this going forward, timescales, and what the likelihood outcomes would be in form of punishment should the club be found guilty to have breached regulations.

8th February 2023 at 5:23 pm #203996Just to put this sort of thing in to perspective in terms of time. My other half is an international expert microbiologist specialising in norovirus. She was involved in a case in Ireland about the contamination of Oysterbeds near Cork. Believe it or not the case took ten years.
In the end the local authority settled.
So I hope it can be put on the back burner until there is something positive. The more disparaging comments from the likes of Wenger etc. ….the more City will dig in and who knows what else will come out….in respect of others and nobody wants that. Just let them get on with it._____________________________

8th February 2023 at 5:41 pm #203997On the flip side, however, I wouldn’t be too upset if clubs, even my beloved Cock’s, got dragged into it and the game actaully got cleaned up… maybe even end up on some sort of level playing field (whereby other “smaller” clubs might have a chance of getting to the top of the tree once in a while)… can that actually be a bad thing for the game itself? I don’t think so… I know quite a few people who don’t really follow football anywhere near as much as they use to, the predictability of it all (by season end!)… even I very rarely watch a game that doesn’t involve my Spuds these days.
(In fact, I only watch the end of non-Spud related games so I can watch the meltdowns on here! π )

8th February 2023 at 7:13 pm #203999Watched the video with Neville with more time and attention and that Man City fan is rattled; he’s the one raising his voice whilst Robbie The Arsenal FAN Tv Representative is just chilled; remember when City signed those Arsenal players in Toure, Clichy and Nasri.
I don’t know why this has taken so long and factored essentially at the time of them coming into money.

9th February 2023 at 12:32 pm #204020I agree with Adlab and his Barrister pal this looks certain to be a drawn out process with a likely appeal process too.
The PL can’t set a time scale and outline the ramifications that would be putting the cart before the horse.
This is a PL investigation rather than an FA investigation I’m not sure where the FA would come in and go out or for the need of the FA.
Stripping City of titles and re awarding them is a can of worms there’s European places and relegation places to take into account potentially too if that were the case and there’s no glory in being awarded a title retrospectively by default.
Relegation should City be found guilty doesn’t work because it would effect Clubs in the Championship one of whom wouldn’t be promoted the most relevant punishments imo are a points deduction together with a transfer ban should City be found guilty of the most serious of charges.
But they have to be found guilty first which could run into years once the Lawyers get involved deciphering and arguing the merits of 4 years of evidence.

9th February 2023 at 7:49 pm #204058Probably my last word on this for now; Every club I’m sure is audited by relevant authorities. If findings of audits are not submitted or if submitted are found not to be compliant, then investigations take place and ultimately there is breach. In City’s case, it’s inflated sponsorship teams (alleged must I add).
There should be consequences if found guilty. In any other facet, I’m sure ordinarily, this would be the case.
