7th February 2023 at 9:21 am #203947I’m quite sure City will be cleared, if Eufa lost all their cases against them what chance have the Premier League got.

7th February 2023 at 9:39 am #203948Don’t think they’ll be cleared as such, I expect the case will collaspe on a technicality of some sort (so the FA can blame anybody but themselves and City will declare their “innocense” as they weren’t actually found guilty!)

7th February 2023 at 11:29 am #203949Uefa found them guilty, CAS overturned the result on a technicality. The PL hasn’t got such time restrictions on their investigations and City cannot turn to CAS.
This is a big move by the PL. They have gone all or nothing. If City win the PL may cease to exist as there will be zero deterrent for financial doping and therefore not a level playing field. Surely they know the consequences of charging City and have made 100% sure of their case.
I cannot see titles being stripped and handed to the 2nd place team. What about the 5th place team missing out on the CL? Or a relegated team missing out on all that PL money? Big can of worms could be opened. But I could see individual chairmen taking City to court on the back of a successful case for such losses.
Be interesting to see if Pep stays. He’s said a few times if the club is found to have cheated he would walk.
Thing is even if the case is somehow thrown out City will always be known as the Lance Armstrong of the footballing World.

7th February 2023 at 3:27 pm #203951I don’t think they will be kicked out because as it says in this article the EFL under no obligation to accept them so you would effectively make city a non league club.

7th February 2023 at 3:59 pm #203952Gentlemen you are making the same mistake as the one who spits at girls and the exPalace failure.
You are assuming guilt without facts. This already builds a defence if it were a legal case. Known as pre trial prejudice.
Rather than count chickens think in a more considered way.
If any of you have ever been involved with potentially complex civil cases you’ll know what I mean. So often there is such a conflict of evidence and facts a case fails.
I spent so much professional life succeeding and failing on such matters you should not speculate
Let’s see just as said when UEFA tried and the same comments were rife.

7th February 2023 at 4:22 pm #203953Adlab, I don’t think any of us should be rushing to punish City innocent until proven guilty and all that.
However City’s problems are 100 separate charges and the fact that UEFA have already found City guilty of some of those charges which were only overturned by CAS on a time out basis which doesn’t exist for the PL so this time won’t be applicable.
4 years of investigation will create an enormous body of evidence to consider none of us are aware of the PL evidence or City’s counter evidence so it’s all in the melting pot my gut feel is that the City lawyers are really going to have to earn their money like never before this time around.

7th February 2023 at 4:32 pm #203955Nine. I think you are right. It could take years and huge cost.
Even the cases I was involved with some of which took five years plus to settle, my charge out rate at the end 10yrs ago was Β£600 per hour!!!

7th February 2023 at 4:44 pm #203956We all know they’re guilty!!!!! It’s all about how they’re going to try and wiggle out of it!!!
We all know about Mancini’s contract, we all know about the emails!!
And I don’t think they’ll get kicked out, that would hurt the overal brand…

Nah, they’re as guilty as a puppy sitting next to a pile of poo.
Once could be a mistake, but twice?! I think they will be found guilty of some of the cases but also think the punishment will not be as strict as some of us are wanting.

7th February 2023 at 4:53 pm #203958Here’s my take on it, for what it’s worth.
From what I’ve read and seen so far, I’m pretty sure City are and will be found guilty of some, if not all the charges made.
I’m also pretty sure that every other PL (and possibly EFL) club ‘bends’ the rules to suit it’s own agenda – that’s what (big) businesses do.
So why City?
First of all there was the intended publication of the Govt. White Paper about ‘cleaning up’ football. And City’s case was rushed through – proof being that there were mistakes all over the first issuance of the charges.
Secondly, the FA (without any doubt) have repeatedly been put under pressure, mostly by the other five ‘big 6’ clubs regarding City’s ownership and financial position, probably through jealousy and fears of another club breaking into the old cartel – wasn’t it something like 10 seasons where the top 4 consisted only of Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal? Financial fair play, I think not.
So, what can we expect by way of punishment? A fine, almost certainly but that wouldn’t hurt so much. A points deduction, probably but not so damaging (depends on number deducted, obviously). Relegation, possibly and that would be painful. Stripping of titles, probably not due to red tape involved and subsequent chaos that would ensue.
I’ve supported my club for over 50 years and will continue to, regardless of the verdict and punishments, However, I really hope we are innocent of the changes and prove that to be the case. I really don’t want us to defend the case on a technicality. The club statement, yesterday, was quite strong in suggesting they have “irrefutable evidence” in answer to all the charges. Time will tell._____________________________

7th February 2023 at 4:55 pm #203960Yeah I don’t think anyone for a minute thinks City will be punished in any way Adlab so City fans need not worry. Here’s a really thorough thread detailing a lot of the findings so far. Have a read Adlab
The next time a Manchester City fan mentions innocence etc, remind them there's pages upon pages to show otherwise. Here's a quick explainer on some of them.

Come on Chucks, hand on heart, do you honestly believe that all clubs don’t make ‘back-handed’ payments to players and staff?
It’s always happened, trust me I know._____________________________

7th February 2023 at 5:11 pm #203964I’m inclined to think a deal will be done right or wrong. There is a danger of a Pandora’s box here for the EPL. Dirt will be dug and no one will win and the lucrative brand will be damaged.
