City statement
“Manchester City is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with,” the club said in a statement.
“The club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.
“As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”

6th February 2023 at 12:27 pm #203891One thing for sure considering FA stance and City statement above, one of them is going to be properly embarrassed 😳

6th February 2023 at 12:42 pm #203892History repeating itself again…..
What is the point if the likely-hood is then escaping punishment and sanctions through top lawyers.
It questions the confidence of integrity within the sport. There’s talk about points deduction, but what about those titles/trophies already won during that period???
Way of the world sadly.

6th February 2023 at 12:43 pm #203893Lucky, the FA must have new and irrefutable evidence to even consider going again.

6th February 2023 at 12:49 pm #203897I’m probably wrong, but I think CAS doesn’t apply here as it isn’t an “international” competition that’s being investigated, just national ruling for a national comp… no international boundries are being crossed… (apart from all the illegal money of course!)…
Hold on, have I just given Money City a “Get Out Of JAIL” free card???
That’s 12 billion pounds please!

6th February 2023 at 12:49 pm #203898Shiney, maybe mate, although if what threeps just said is true and CAS can’t overturn they must be convinced this commission will uphold the charges. Interestingly city seem just as convinced they won’t.
Would they say anything else at this stage? Probably not, but they could have said less and chose not to so I believe they are convinced they can effectively dispute all charges.

6th February 2023 at 12:55 pm #203901Threeps, so if the owners of the other premier league owners decide to throw city out of the league there no legal recourse?
I know CAS overturned some of these charges previously but they were found guilty prior. If they are again is their punishment going to be decided by the other owners?

6th February 2023 at 1:00 pm #203904Bound to be some sort of avenue where they could at least threaten litigation for lost commercial revenue based on any sanctions.
Like you and others I Presume city are prepared.

6th February 2023 at 1:22 pm #203906Got it….
City are now going to claim that the leaked emails (which, let’s remember, have never been denied, but simply taken out of “context”), were in fact dummy emails which were:
A) Part of an elaberate internal mole hunt to discover who was leaking information to the press
B) Part of am international plot done with the full knowlege of the CIA/FBI/MI5/MFI to arrest a team on internationally troublesome hackers…

6th February 2023 at 2:57 pm #203915I hope City answer all the allegations openly.
If you look at what is alleged it seems to me that most of it concerns not providing information.
They also question ” True and Fair View “in the accounts (which have no audit qualification. )
That is a statutory term meaning relevant and objective which auditors have to assess and always difficult to question. That means involving firms of accountants.
From my experience as Chartered Accountant these cases if there is one take years.
So by the time this gets sorted with top KCs etc it could be months or years.
Optimistic guess. Sorry Simon(failure) Jordan fine + warning but City’s accounts now are very healthy_____________________________

6th February 2023 at 3:01 pm #203916Interesting…
All jokes aside… I really do think City are in a position whereby they need to prove they didn’t do it, and I have no idea how they would do that. It would seem they’re in trouble for multiple offences (not just inflated sponsership, but also “illegal payments” and “withholding evidence”)… and getting off on a technicality is going to do nothing to prove their innocence, not only in “court” but also in the court of public opinion.

6th February 2023 at 3:03 pm #203917Chaps believe me from experience the law is very complex which is why the EPL have looked to use an Independent Commission.
But who decides on the make up? All very complicated.
I spent 3 years dealing with a question of whether accouts were true and Fair and in the end we lost. It isn’t easy_____________________________
