City’s biggest problem is that their squad is beginning to need rejuvenation and they currently have UEFA breathing down their necks because of FFP which will make it more challenging for them.
City look like losing Silva in the Summer as he wants to return home to Spain, Aguero still has a couple of seasons left in him imo but will take some replacing as will Fernandinho who will be 35 by the start of next season but Rodri has already been signed as his replacement.
If there was no FFP City would likely spend a fortune next Summer but they can’t do that now which probably makes it the biggest challenge Pep has faced at City.

2nd December 2019 at 1:02 pm #55155im never sure on the FFP rules but isnt there something about it being spread over 3 seasons? if so could they buy big one year then not in 2 years to balance? looking at the liked of RM in the summer how could they spend so much? surely city can too and Juve and a few others have spent big in short windows too…?
what are they maximum figures each club can spend on transfers and stay within FFP? that would be interesting to know!
i know you have a much better understanding of all this 999 so hopefully you can enlighten me!;)

2nd December 2019 at 1:26 pm #55157Stevo, I think UEFA’s current FFP rules allow a Club to lose 30m Euros over a 3 year period providing the owner underwrites that loss. I think City would struggle to spend really significant monies say £300m and remain within FFP. City’s current annual profit is circa £10m.
City’s other problem is that they are already under investigation by UEFA for breaking FFP rules and are awaiting confirmation of UEFA’s next actions in respect of this.

2nd December 2019 at 3:08 pm #55166maverick…Pep will still be with us next season, after that we do not know but may well know before this season ends. Do we need a new manager….no….does he want to go….my guess is he will want an extension unless he finishes next season empty handed, Without doubt he has raised the bar and no matter what the result, apart from a handful of games, his games are always good to watch. I also believe we have others ready and lined up.

2nd December 2019 at 3:20 pm #55168As to new signings, do we need them? At the end of the season David Silva will leave us after a decade, Fernandinho likely, Otamendi, Sane , maybe Walker, Jesus possibly, all we go
We have Foden, Garcia ready, and a couple of other youngsters close to being ready
I would like to loose Mendy, Mahrez..just do not do enough for me and unlikely to change, no wonder KDB was going ballistic at them last week
We need a quality experienced CB to partner Laporte. If we have Rodri as the defensive midfielder, which he is good at then we need a dominator like Fernandinho only a younger versionWell that would be my brief to City as a humble fan We also need a captain

2nd December 2019 at 3:29 pm #55171I don’t think City need a new Manager there are few better than Pep a replacement for Kompany plus maybe one or two others and they will be ready to go again if Sane goes they will get a big fee to reinvest.

2nd December 2019 at 3:47 pm #55173BB-If City tightens up a bit their defence the CL this year looks very balanced imho, and City ctands as good of a chance, with teams like Real,Barca,Bayern,Juve,PSG,still in a need of rebuild. That only leaves Liverpool & Spurs really, but doable by all means.

2nd December 2019 at 8:23 pm #55201Mac…I do not see Pep as a failure if he does not win CL.I am sure most City fans will want him to stay but knowing he will go at some point. As to who replaces him I think they already know who it will be and I am sure pep will put forward his recommendation. pep will not change his style, he may make some tactical changes but not his style, he believes in it and as long as he can get the players to believe in it and….do it…there is no better team to watch. he does need 2/3 new players though, he knows that better than any of us. Pep does not sign players though although he can ask for certain players. We have had some not so good signings, but, hey-ho, what club does not. The point I was really trying to make is, City have now a sound structure and are and will build for the future, the Chairman said last year, we will have some blips on the way’ he knows what he is talking about

2nd December 2019 at 8:32 pm #55204Maverick….I do not know about Van Brockhorts,,heard it mentioned only as gossip but I really think think Pep will stay, if not Plan B is already ready. I do not think City will be caught out and Pep is not going to do anything that upsets the club, he has too many friends here now so I think everyone involved in a tight loop knows what will happen. This is unfortunate for the media because they will only speculate in various ways in there quest for a headline. headlines are more important than facts is there creed

3rd December 2019 at 7:02 am #55229AnonymousI don’t agree with Sean in saying that City are favourites for the CL this season. They are definitely in with a great shout and are one of the main teams going for it but for me, we are definite favourites.
Not because we’re X amount of points ahead in the PL, I mean we’re one loss away from being out of the CL entirely. I just think that we’re better at the 2 legged CL games and the final, well that’s just one match, it could go either way but we’ve played in the last 2 of them, winning the last one. We lack PL winning experience but not CL.
City will get it together as the season goes on. They will go on a winning run at some stage and Liverpool will start to drop points. Leicester refuse to give up, so we can’t count them out but Chelsea have got to win their next game or they are out of the running, for me.

3rd December 2019 at 8:23 am #55241one loss in over 52 matches and counting and Liverpool need to lose the equivalent of 4 matches with 24 to go and those below cannot afford to lose even one in that situation. I know where I’d like to have my money. What are Liverpool’s current odds to become champions?

3rd December 2019 at 12:26 pm #55277AnonymousYa Mav, I mean my only guess for us not being favourites for the CL, is cause our last group game is away and if we lose, that’s it. Of course bookies odd’s are only a partial reflection of actual probability too but even then, if Liverpool make it through the group stages, they are favorites and I don’t care what the bookies say.
This isn’t me saying “omg my team iz unbeatable innit!!”. We can just admit things surely? Being as objective as I can, were I a supporter of any other club, I’d want to avoid Liverpool in the KO’s before any other side, including City… who’ve never even appeared in a final.
But we got ourselves into an “easy” group and we’ve been complacent and it might cost us our chance to win this tournament. One more poor performance and we’re all eyes on the PL. Some might say that’s good but not me. I am a lover of the CL and even my desire for the PL doesn’t just extinguish it. So, if we can give ourselves even a small chance of doing well in the CL once again and maybe just maybe winning back to back titles, that’d be bloody incredible.
As for the PL, we were almost the exact same points ahead now as we are of Leciester and although we didn’t lose our way to failure, we drew 5 games in reasonably quick succession. That will do it just as much as a few losses will.
We have no chickens but I’ll be damned if I’m going to say that we’re not favourite for the CL.
Additional : if this reads as cocky or anything like that, it definitely is not implied. For me, I’m just being honest. If we go out of the CL in the next game, don’t be rubbing my face in it as I’ve just said that that could well happen.
Then look at those odds btw, City MILES ahead. I’d nearly take those odds. 6 times your money? wtf.
