Jim, let’s not go there mate Thatcher’s challenge was one of the worst ever and could have done Mendez permanent damage he had to be administered oxygen on the pitch and had a seizure.
Even City banned Thatcher for 6 games on top of the FA ban. Completely incomparable to the Puncheon challenge on KDB which still should have been a red card and a 3 game ban.

1st January 2018 at 6:47 pm #10796Jim, before the new rules there was no retrospective punishment for diving to try and win a penalty and diving which leads to another player getting sent off.
It’s not working effectively yet but it has to be a step in the right direction albeit it would be much more effective if the FA changed the decision from unanimous to majority.

1st January 2018 at 6:58 pm #10798Nine, in no way am i defending Thatchers assault. I was at that game and i like 99% of City fans didnt want that thug ever playing for my club again. But why can’t we go there? Why can’t we discuss what challenge or tackle warrants looking at again and what doesn’t? Does it take a player to be knocked unconscious to be looked at. Or just an elbow/arm to the head, a cut head. Or a leg breaking challenge where the leg is actually broken? What are the rules? They arnt even published are they? It’s a random decision made by a faceless FA panel? that’s why I am questioning it? The precedent has been set. The FA could easily look at Puncheons assault and many others each year but they choose not to as they are gutless incompetent cowards imo. Who are actaully damaging a great game so many love playing and watching. Jim
ps you dont work for the FA do you??

1st January 2018 at 6:59 pm #107999, I think all dives need to be looked at, a dive on the edge of the area that leads to a goal from the free kick goes unpunished, that canβt be righ. For me a dives a dive, if found to be guilty 3 match ban minimum, it has to be a more severe punishment than a genuine mistimed challenge.
Maybe a team penalty (point deduction) if a team gets a certain amount of offences, that way the emphasis is on the clubs to stamp it out not the authorities to try and catch it…Pagan

1st January 2018 at 7:55 pm #10805Pagan, league positions have to be decided by football and not points deductions imo but let’s not spend too much time debating it because that’s never going to happen.
One step at a time the current new rules need to be working and are in need of tweaking at least to reflect a majority decision rather than a unanimous decision.

1st January 2018 at 8:04 pm #10806Jim, I’m not defending the current review system and have said it doesn’t work and needs amending to make it work and I also said earlier that City have been on the end of some bad tackles in the last few weeks and I also said that Puncheon’s tackle should have been a red card and that there should be a process to convert yellow cards to red cards when they are deserved as I believe Puncheon’s tackle was.
I didn’t want to get into an elongated discussion on the Ben Thatcher clash with Mendes as it happened over 10 years ago, imo is incomparable to the Puncheon tackle and I only raised it in connection to Pagans point about changing yellow cards to red cards as that was the only time I can remember any further punishment to a yellow card that deserved more.
And No I don’t work for the FA. So I’ll leave it there now!!!!!

1st January 2018 at 8:13 pm #10809Evening all.I think a step in the right direction would be to have three
referees on this review panel.Maybe two retired ones Mark Halsey imo was one of the best.Dermot Gallagher
and say a current one ? Only names off the top of my head. With all the money in the game and technology out there. It’s an
absolute disgrace that football is seriousley lagging behind Rugby.
Tennis & Cricket in getting the key decisions right._____________________________

1st January 2018 at 9:18 pm #10814Haha nine, come on fella I was clearly pulling your leg with regards to the working for the FA comment. I also agree the thatcher assault was different. But I think the point I made was very valid. What does it take for the hidden powers that be to overturn a yellow card. Have to agree PPT. Three refs are better than useless players who used the system to their advantage.
