3rd December 2017 at 5:34 pm #8332Thereβs an inevitability about this- West Ham will go home without any points

3rd December 2017 at 6:07 pm #8334Well done to City in equaling the 13 PL game consecutive winning records of Arsenal and Chelsea.
Enjoyable game with the winning margin not quite as convincing as expected but a lovely winning goal with the pass and the finish.
That’s the third consecutive PL game that City have had to dig out a win and that just underlines their tile credentials.

3rd December 2017 at 6:32 pm #8336Big win for city. No way was it going to end any other way.
This time a few weeks ago, I thought city would beat utd but I canβt see utd losing now. Maybe a draw. City look a bit tired at the minute but they are digging out wins which is what itβs sll about.david Silva is a joy to watch

3rd December 2017 at 6:53 pm #8339Sean, if there is going to be a real title race United have to beat City at OT.
City seem vulnerable to crosses and United are a very big team and could take advantage of that and City have a long tiring trip to the Ukraine when they’ve already won the Group which is unhelpful to them.
I have a sneaky feeling for a narrow United win next week given all the circumstances if not the title will all but be decided prior to Christmas.

3rd December 2017 at 7:12 pm #8341Disciplined Hammers side had the better chances first half. City had some poor wayward final balls and shots first half. We quickened up second half. West Ham then tired in the final 20 minutes and we capitalised. Mangala then nearly let them equalise in final minute, he won’t play next weekend. Dean warned Adrian about time wasting in first five minutes then did nothing about it the rest of the game. Midweek I expect Ederson, KDB, Ferna, Silva, Kompany, Jesus, Aguero, Sane, Otamendi, Walker, Delph and Sterling won’t even travel to Shaktar. The team will be Yaya, B Silva, Gundogwan, Mangala, Danilo and the youth players. It’s a meaningless game and coming away from Old Trafford next weekend with something is far more important.

3rd December 2017 at 8:16 pm #8343Jim, I don’t think so mate the team/ squad to face Shaktar have to be taken from the declared CL Squad for the Group games.
City probably need a squad of at least 20 players to go to the Ukraine and consequently it will be a strong City squad going to Ukraine the majority of which will form the 18 chosen to face United although I get why you would prefer it wasn’t.
Here’s City’s squad registered for the CL Group stages 2017 there’s a wee bit of tolerance but not a lot:
Goalkeepers
1. Claudio Bravo, 31. Ederson, 49. Arijanet Muric
Defenders
2. Kyle Walker, 3. Danilo, 4. Vincent Kompany, 5. John Stones, 15. Eliaquim Mangala, 22. Benjamin Mendy, 24. Tosin Adarabioyo, 30. Nicolas Otamendi
Midfielders
7. Raheem Sterling, 8. Ilkay Gundogan, 17. Kevin De Bruyne, 18. Fabian Delph, 19. Leroy Sane, 20. Bernardo Silva, 21. David Silva, 25. Fernandinho, 42. Yaya Toure, 47. Phil Foden, 55. Brahim Diaz
Forwards
10. Sergio Aguero, 33. Gabriel Jesus

3rd December 2017 at 8:34 pm #8348Of course some tiredness does creep in, this is compounded by defensive opposition, never easy to play against at best of times but credit City for keeping the focus on a win. They could have made it easier on themselves by scoreing early though. Shaktar, will be all about “keep ball” rather than anything else and try and get something out of it. The important game now has become bigger at OT, it is not OK to think if we loose we still have an important lead, Pep will not think like that but we have to defend better because they have players who could do the job.I wish Pogba was playing but I guess he wanted to do some Christmas shopping and that may have been more important for him and by the way Paul, we still have Mendy, Stones injured

3rd December 2017 at 8:45 pm #8353Well that wasnβt the script Iβd read, lol. I agreed that Vinney and Fernandinho stayed away from the starting 11 but as the game went on it was damn obvious that Delph should have switched to LB and even maybe Danilo going to defensive mid. Iβve no idea why we have just decided to drop the pace of our play and passing but itβs quite obvious we have. Letβs all just hope they are saving it up for the swamp dwellers next week eh.
My mom was Otamendi, our best player today

3rd December 2017 at 8:57 pm #8357Really nine? I was under the impression that you could play an unlimited number of B list players (juniors) in addition to the 25man maximum A list players.
See link below. Unless I misunderstood?

3rd December 2017 at 9:19 pm #8362Rashford other young United players are B list players but can play in United’s Champions league games. There is no limit. So I think City can play Bravo, Yaya, Denilson, Mangala, B Silva, Gundogwan and five youngsters. Including Foden, Diaz, Adibayio, etc

3rd December 2017 at 9:23 pm #8363Jim, no you’re right and there’s another 8 B list players you can add to the list I supplied circa 14 first team players would have to go to the Ukraine though but you could leave a few behind.

3rd December 2017 at 9:43 pm #8365Ok nine so you can have a maximum of 8 B list players in any one squad. So out of our A list players below Mendy and Stones are injured so presumably we may be able to replace them. So that means we could bring in at least 8 and maybe 10 B list players.
So my squad would be.
1. Claudio Bravo, Arijanet Muric
3. Danilo, 4. Eliaquim Mangala, 24. Tosin Adarabioyo,
8. Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, 21. 42. Yaya Toure, 47. Phil Foden, 55. Brahim Diaz
Plus 2 replacements for Stones and Mendy and the rest Academy players?
Presumably we don’t have to take out a 22 man squad ?
All that said I fear Pep with his win every match mentality May well take a few important players out for a pointless game. With 6 hours flight each way.

3rd December 2017 at 11:53 pm #8366Jim, City would almost certainly be required to field a match day squad of 18 by UEFA which would probably mean a travelling squad of 20/22. I don’t believe you can change the squad even to replace injured players until the next registration of Squads for the Round of 16.
I’m not sure about the UEFA rulings on fielding weakened teams though especially when it could sway the positions in the table Napoli could get eliminated from the competition by City fielding a complete scratch side v Shaktar should Shaktar win that game.
At best it could be deemed disrespecting the competition and at worst it could impact on who goes through especially as City fielded strong sides in both games in beating Napoli home and away having said that I’m sure there would be room for resting certain key players.

4th December 2017 at 6:28 am #8370Nine, Bayeen Munich fielded a weaker team against us three seasons ago in the last group game. If the players meet the squad criteria then I see no reason why it can’t be done. Otherwise why have the squad criteria. Personally I couldn’t care less whether Napoli go through and I doubt whether they would be bothered about us if they were in our situation. I do they do drop players I am certain the club will have checked the rules and precedents before doing so. However as I said it wouldn’t surprise me if we played an unnecessary strong side by Pep, risking and tiring important players needlessly. If that happens I will be disappointed. Pep for all his magic qualities is very headstrong and does make mistakes and takes risks. We saw that last year when we through away a good lead in the second leg vs Monaco needlessly playing suicidal attacking football. But time will tell. Cheers Jim

4th December 2017 at 7:37 am #8371Jim, as I said mate I’m not sure of the rules in respect of playing weakened sides in the last CL Group game when something substantial rests on the outcome of the game for another team in the Group but whatever City do I’m sure it will be within the rules of the competition.
Whilst imo there’s nothing wrong and probably everything right in resting some of City’s big name players even leaving them behind in Manchester to avoid all the travel playing a side made up of primarily of a B list players wouldn’t imo be in the spirit of the competition especially if it contributes to getting Napoli eliminated from the competition and Shaktar going through.
Pep is a CL winner as both a player and a Manager and someone who cares deeply about the game itself the spirit of the game and I suspect the Champions League as a competition and whilst I wouldn’t expect him to take a full strength City squad to Ukraine or indeed play a full strength team v Shaktar I would be both surprised and disappointed in him if he left with a complete scratch squad with a swathe of players that have never played in the City first team and looked to play those same players v Shaktar.
All football fans are selfish when it comes to their teams and only want what’s best for them and the game at Old Trafford could be pivotal in deciding the destination of the title so I completely sympathise with where you are coming from. As you rightly suggest we will know soon enough. Cheers 999
