I also don’t see Spurs in the race. We might finish behind them but they won’t pass both us and City out.

4th January 2019 at 11:45 am #30847Spurs are in the race by virtue of the fact that they are only 6 points behind Liverpool the odds probably reflect the likelihood of Spurs finishing above both Club’s but they are in it albeit unlikely winners.

4th January 2019 at 11:47 am #30848If the Refs watch didn’t bleep and it didn’t the whole of the ball didn’t cross the line. Comedy of errors from City though in the first place.

4th January 2019 at 11:50 am #30849Bit of a change of heart from last night Mak.? But I agree Liverpool still have every chance of winning it.

4th January 2019 at 12:18 pm #30850AnonymousAs the night drew on my lack of alcohol tolerance combined with being knackered really kicked me in the balls Nine!
It is hard to take a loss that you’ve been waiting so long for 😛 but we’re still top and City will have to take that from us, not the other way around so ya, I’m ok with it. I know you’re happy because it keeps the Pl alive. Honestly, it was all but over if we won.
We have a tough game in Wolves away but we can win there and we’ll have to. Simple as that. I think the spine of the team is very strong and seriously, how good was Van Dijk last night? His positioning was so good it’s like City were passing the ball to his feet and head all the time!
I can’t wait for Gomez to return. I said it before that we would suffer as a result of him getting injured and we’ve started conceding goals again.
fair play to City though on the night. They played with serious intensity, exactly as expected really. it’s a game that could have gone either way really but they took their chances well. Did you see the stat at th eend of the game? First time city have had less possession than a PL opposition in 97 games! That’s feckin dirty that is. I mean how do you achieve that.
Anyway..

4th January 2019 at 12:22 pm #30851Mak, I know how it feels buddie your lurch from pessemism to optimisim and back again but you’ve still got a great chance of winning it and the FA Cup gives Liverpool a welcome release from the pressures of the PL. Cheers 999

4th January 2019 at 12:37 pm #30854Anonymousya Nine, I mean I was so tense heading into this match. it’s a little like tearing the plaster off though. We all said Liverpool would lose this season and we’ll likely lose again. i just hope we have a bit of a run put together before the next one though, 4 points is still fantastic but there’s no messing around now. This is serious business.
Squeaky bum time and as a fan I’m ready for it because I think our team is ready for it. We got beaten by a very good Man city but we showed some quality, some mental strength. Van Dijk is an amazing player and leader and he’s something that we didn’t have before.

4th January 2019 at 1:24 pm #30855AnonymousLiverpool looked like they lacked leaders last night. From what I saw they were far too narrow and the midfield sat too deep. Often there were seven players in a narrow area just in front of the 18 yard line. A leader would have sorted that out.

4th January 2019 at 1:29 pm #30856The best team won last night without a doubt. It may have been different if the own goal had gone in, but as Brian says, it’s all ifs and buts. We are still in the box seat by virtue of having a 4 point lead, but it is too close to call. My only worry is strangely enough the FA Cup. I would imagine we will put out a seriously weakened team, and could well lose the game. In which case we have suddenly lost 2 on the bounce, and we lose the momentum we have enjoyed for the last few months.

4th January 2019 at 1:56 pm #30857On a separate matter, I saw something at the game last night which really disturbed me. Now I’m not having a go at City fans here, so don’t take it the wrong way. As I mentioned yesterday I won my match tickets in a raffle and they were expensive seats provided by Sky and were in a City fan area, so we weren’t in amongst the headbangers…or at least we shouldn’t have been. When Liverpool scored a family about 8 rows in front of us stood up, punched the air and sat down again. In no way were they gloating or goading the home fans in any way. They weren’t wearing colours, the mum and dad were probably in their 50’s with a son about 15, and they looked a respectable nice family. Immediately a few fans around the area started abusing them and complaining to stewards about their presence, and they were then escorted out of the stand, to where I haven’t a clue. My guess is that this family weren’t even regular matchgoers and that this came as a complete shock to them. The abuse they got was unreal, and some of the complaining fans then continued on a witch hunt to identify other Liverpool fans in the area, which was really uncomfortable for us and a few others, I would imagine. My daughter and I weren’t wearing colours and through experience stayed in our seats when we scored. I thought it was appalling behaviour both on part of the fans and maybe the stewards as well, as their attitude when escorting this family out did not appear to be sympathetic at all to the family but more an appeasement to the aggressive fans. My guess is that this family may also have won or been given this tickets and very briefly celebrated in a very non-threatening way, and were left with a very unpleasant situation in all innocence. I just thought it was all very sad, ruining an exciting occasion for this family. It’s just so wrong.

4th January 2019 at 2:06 pm #30859Ye Alfie it only changed when we went 4-2-3-1 and fabhino cane on. The full backs then pushed on
The more I think about it, the more I think we did sit back and be to conservative.
No excuses though. City were relentless and they had players everywhere.
Vvd was the only one shouting and leading. The midfield met us down and we were to timid. City had ferndhio smashing into tacked. We had no one
We still created a few chances but I never felt comfortable even at 1-1

4th January 2019 at 2:23 pm #30861Hightown, I think that would happen at most grounds I’ve sat with rival fans before at West Ham and the last time at St Mary’s and you have to sit on your hands if you score and a regular match going fan would know that.
Big shame and the difference between Football and Rugby where rival fans sit side by side.

4th January 2019 at 3:25 pm #30862Sorry to hear about that HH.
I’ve sat in away enclosures many times, including Corporates (not box) and as Nine points out, as an experienced fan you know to sit on your hands and not celebrate. That’s not making an excuse because it shouldn’t happen at a sporting event, full stop.
I’m not sure how these people managed to get tickets, being Liverpool fans, in the home section because all tickets were only sold to fans with a purchase history. If they were ‘won’ then the organiser always confirms to any ‘entrants’ where the ticket are located, home or away ends._____________________________

4th January 2019 at 3:37 pm #30863It’s a shame when idiots like that ruin it for everybody.
I did something similar once… a guy I used to work with back in London many moons ago was a HUGE Sunderland fan, and I went to a few games with him. One game was vs Swindon, during the time when Glenn Hoddle was player/manager, the score was 0-0, behind the goal with Sunderland fans, wearing a Sunderland top… Swindon win a free-kick about 25 yds out right in front of us… Glennda curls a beauty right into the top corner, I jump up and down…
Luckily, they all saw the funny side of it when Kevin explained I was a Spud fan in “real-life”… at least I think that’s what he said, could only ever understand about 30% of what he was talking about, could have been telling them I was day release or something…
Over the years, I reckon I’ve been pretty lucky avoiding the “nonsense” side of things…

4th January 2019 at 5:15 pm #30869Hopefully objective comment. Nothing in it last night. We were badly short at LB. Laporte is not a LB. Liverpool short of midfield creativity. Too many long balls a little predictable. Kompany and Lovren a little lucky but I thought the referee did well considering the game.
The two best teams in the league no doubt. It is still Liverpool’s to lose. Four points isnt much but all Liverpool have to do is match City’s results.
I thought Trent-Alexander had a difficult time but kept at it well. Laporte similar. We have the relief of the cup this week!
Sean no hard feelings either. This is still the best site but we are all tribal!_____________________________

4th January 2019 at 5:19 pm #30870Hightown. I hate that abuse effect but it happens at all grounds. Years ago I used to go to Old Trafford with somebody’s season ticket just to watch the game. I got all sorts of abuse no cheering for a Utd goal. I just sat there not supporting the oppo. But different in 60s and 70s.

4th January 2019 at 5:29 pm #30871This begs the question on this thread whether or not last night was judgement. All I keep hearing and reading “City back in it”. Gods honest truth from my point of view was that I never saw them out of it in the first place. Neither Tottenham.
I don’t pledge on 10 a ten point as out of sight and the nuances too when we’re just barely come over the half way mark of the season.
It’s as always certain quarters of the Media. They keep chipping away and Klopp’s press conference after the game was one of the best ever as he eloquently and emotionally too reasoned well with the media explanation why both him and the team don’t ever get too carried away. This is purely because the club have not had that experience for nearly 30 years in getting over the finishing line.
Keeping feet firmly on the ground and not being swayed by the tide is so important. The Media will always receive a win-win outcome because they’ll always find a way to print a headline.
It’s might well be too a blessing that we lost because if it was a 12 point lead open, the Media would probably pronounce us as Champions. That is just plain wrong and of course disrespectful to the other PL teams.

4th January 2019 at 5:33 pm #30873Alfie @1:24, very true mate. I mentioned all that yesterday and annoyed at Henderson because he’s a journeyman and offers nothing these days. He’s got it in him to be a better al round midfielder and in the past I have sung high praises for him, but it’s increasingly vivid now that we have Fabinho and Keita, how physically balanced they are on the ball not to mention forward-thinking to the front 3 with dribbling ability.
Henderson just does nothing.

4th January 2019 at 5:38 pm #30875Alfie @ 10:33, my feelings exactly.
It’s not so much sour grapes from my end as I’m quite cool now that the dust has settled. I’m septic on that cartoon type imaging and how they are actually delivering the accuracy, because there was more than one angle that clearly showed the whole of the ball inside the goal mouth.
Do they take that into consideration when assessing or is it just some machine, I wonder.
To be that little more pedantic, the width of the lines marked are wider that the actual goal frame which would explain the 11 millimetres.
Flawed if you ask me mate.
