3rd January 2019 at 11:01 pm #30801Sean and Mikus, I think it’s a bit of a stretch saying challengers or winners don’t lose those games, we are definitely challengers lads, we just won’t be winners. Nor should we be really, with what the moneybags have spent in consecutive seasons we are doing well to challenge them.

3rd January 2019 at 11:03 pm #30802Hell yeah Mikus, no service there either mate so the kids will actually have to interact with humans instead of electronic devices. They won’t like it much but I love it.

3rd January 2019 at 11:10 pm #30803Aussie, as well as Klopp has done to get us into this position, he has to seize the opportunity (or at least not have lost the game). City were on the ropes towards the end of the game showing there was a weakness there. Having watched the game, whilst City have undoubted top quality, they also clearly wanted it more. You need both ingredients to win a game, and we lacked the desire (surprisingly) so we lost the game. And not any old game. The biggest game of the season that’s just put our main rivals well and truly back in the race. It’s not game over, but we’ve just put ourselves under big pressure now.

3rd January 2019 at 11:20 pm #30804AnonymousLet’s be honest, Liverpool are still in pole position, it is still theirs to lose. So far this season they have been the best team and are deservedly top. City won’t win every remaining game and Liverpool currently have daylight between themselves and city (and spurs). No need for the doom and gloom.

3rd January 2019 at 11:28 pm #30805Paxton, on the surface that’s true. But deep down, that’s a big result for City which will give them big momentum. They’re not a team you want to let back in the race. I’m just frustrated really because we always seem to do things the hard way. In all honesty, I’ve always thought if we were to win the league under Klopp, because there’s a bit of a tactical weakness there, we’d probably only win a title by a few points rather than more ruthlessly. Which means it’s going to be a long old season. Great for the neutrals. Should say it’s a good result for you fellas too. Shouldn’t rule you guys out either, particularly if there are more hiccups along the way, which there undoubtedly now will be now the race has opened up again.

3rd January 2019 at 11:29 pm #30806Albeit being caught out for their second goal, I thought we were the better of the two from the second half. Pep out of these two latest fixtures clearly has been more defensive minded and encouraging more physicality out of the players which in the first half we struggled with.
A little perspective and we’ve been blessed in all fairness – to be where we are with 4 points ahead to our name, I’d be thankful.

3rd January 2019 at 11:29 pm #30807Just back from the game and now going to watch it again (not sure you can get a true perspective live, especially when your nerves are a bit shredded).
Anyway from watching it live, I thought we pretty much controlled the game for the most part. Liverpool a bit unlucky with the goal line clearance and put us under a bit of pressure last 10 mins when both teams looked tired. Our MF 3 bossed the middle of the park and that’s where it was won – even with Silva (D) not on top form, Bernardo and Fernandinho were superb.
Great finishes from Sergio and Sane and possibly could have had another via a couple of breaks in the closing stages.
Nothing won at this stage but it puts us right back in it, especially with all our big guns getting back to fitness.
May the best team win.

3rd January 2019 at 11:35 pm #30808There’s plenty of football still to be played. As mentioned in my previous post, we should take things into perspective. Nothing was won prior to this game.
The difference now being, a 4 points reduction. And yep, I WOULD NOT rule out Spurs.
A race is exactly of that where challenging teams or teams on par with each other can change places over the course of the season.

3rd January 2019 at 11:41 pm #30809Given the recent issues at City, I didn’t think we had enough to hurt Liverpool but that was a well deserved result. Still, it doesn’t have to play City again in the League this season and so it’s difficult to see who can now lay a glove on this Liverpool team.

3rd January 2019 at 11:42 pm #30810AnonymousPaxton, you wouldn’t call me petal to my face, so don’t do it on here.
Mikus : “I’m afraid champions don’t lose those kinds of game tonight. The difference between being 4 points clear and 10 is huge.”
I don’t agree. We’ve beaten many a PL champion. it was an absolutely HUGE game and not taking away from what you said but it was a game that we literally could afford to lose. I think the mentality of the players was good. We had to deal with some serious pressure from City but like Chelsea, we hit them when we got the chance and it’s just unlucky that we didn’t get more from our chances. They did well to clear off the line of course but you’re really talking about a fine line there and for it to happen a few times is something.
I’m not really unhappy about anything that i saw tonight except for Lovren. it’s not that he was absolutely terrible but he was typically Lovren and I knew he wasnt up to it going into the game. The worry for me is that the club wont be able to replace him. Gomez is not going to be budged from that starting place.. not a hope in hell. he’s the 2nd best CB in the league by a mile. How do you get anyone to come into this? I think we’ve got to suck it up.

3rd January 2019 at 11:50 pm #30811Anonymous“Mak – calm down petal! I literally said immediately below my comment that I was joking. I felt I had to make that perfectly clear because I know you are very sensitive and given I didn’t put an emoji in you wouldn’t see it as a joke. ”
How bitter is this , seriously. He’s trying to rub salt in. How small and bitter do you have to be. People say that you’ve slipped and become bitter but the fact is, you’ve only been shown up because we’ve only been top a little while.
you tiny dildo.

4th January 2019 at 12:00 am #30812Mikus mate this is why I’m never confident. I get put on the negative all the time but in recent times when the heat is on we crumble, Title challenge 2014, Europa final are 2 examples. I’ll tell you now that will give c$ty the confidence & momentum to really push on, I honestly think they will go undefeated until seasons end. How our lads react will be interesting, hopefully we don’t crumble under pressure like we have done in previous seasons.

4th January 2019 at 12:02 am #30813It’s easy to feel sorry for ourselves and look in the direction of injuries. A great shame about Gomez, and no Matip too. Of course, Ox is still out for us, but Man City have of course missed key players too.
It’s evident for me that the Captaincy should now be handed over to Van Dijk. Henderson’s no real leader. At best now, like Lallana, he’s a squad player. I truly hope this season we do win Silverware irrespective of whichever the trophy from the competitions we can compete for.
We are on the right track and have a quality first 11, but it’s the squad we still need to work on and perhaps in need of at least another 2/3 top quality players.

4th January 2019 at 12:06 am #30814Mak, City clearly wanted it more tonight in a huge game. And they deserved it. I don’t really subscribe to being unlucky. We seemed to play it tonight like a first leg CL away game and tbh, that wouldn’t have been a bad result. But it wasn’t a CL game. And we will get no second chance to undo the result tonight. It’s obviously not game over as far as the title is concerned, but in a close close race, to lose a 6 pointer like that is a big deal. And the psychological damage is to be confirmed. What I’m afraid it’s confirmed is that whilst Liverpool are a challenger, they ain’t a ruthless one. And it’s going to go down to the wire. I guess the blip from City gave us undue hope that we may seal it early this season. I’m really not trying to be negative, just frustrating we couldn’t capitalise on it tonight. I think this game came at a better time for City than us, and I don’t think Klopp knew quite how to play it tonight and got caught playing somewhere in between strategies. The only hope is that it wakes us up to things. Problem is, it’s certainly woken City up.

4th January 2019 at 12:31 am #30816Well worth freezing this on 0:20 11 Milimeters apparently. But on 0:20 it shows the ball already in the goal mouth.

4th January 2019 at 12:34 am #30817AnonymousI don’t agree that they absolutely deserved it. I’m not disputing it but it isnt a case of it being that their performance deserved 3 points. They won it fair and square but it could very easily have gone our way and I’m surprised to see these kinds of remarks from you.
I think you’re wrong. You’re angry that we didn’t go and close the league out. We had a gameplan and I think it worked to a point. Klopp drew City on us and tried to hit them on the break. There were times when their midfield dominated us but this was always going to happen. This is Pep. he does this to every single team he play against. If you can show me a team that he doesnt partially dominate in midfield then I will show you the best team in the world.
We get no second chance to undo this? When did we miss our first chance to undo this? because we are still top of the table. It is them who has to look at their 3 lost games and think about what they can do. It’s up to us to make sure that they don’t get that chance.
” to lose a 6 pointer like that is a big deal. And the psychological damage is to be confirmed. What I’m afraid it’s confirmed is that whilst Liverpool are a challenger, they ain’t a ruthless one. ”
Fucking huge. Without a doubt. To not win tonight means that we have to continue to fight just as hard as we did to get here in the first place. It’s confirmed that the PL isn’t easy but the players already knew this. They’ve fought for every 3 points on the table up to here in order to afford this position. Klopp will now show them the benefit of eating everything on their plates until now. They have grown big and strong and i do think they are PL winners yet. They are definitely worthy challengers. We’re all upset but you have to also admit that it took a hell of a performance from City tonight to beat us. If this is our worst then who else can stand up to it? there isnt a team in the league who would beat us as we performed tonight.
I totally get all of your frustrations. That could be me speaking at times but honestly, this match has calmed me.
it makes no sense for me to be confident in winning the title after that but I am. I saw such a cool head from Van Dijk. He wont have gotten MOTM because we conceded 2 (for the first time this season btw) but he wasnt at fault for either and he absolutely shut down Man City time after time. It was just such a pleasant experience watching him in action.
I think we’re gonna win the title if I’m honest. I don;t think they have what it takes to pass us out. We’re the best team in the PL. We’ve got the best defence in the league by a mile. We lost tonight because of Lovren and Gomez is back soon-ish. maybe I’m mad but I just think we’re better.

4th January 2019 at 12:41 am #30821Found an alternative clip Mak, and pasted that instead.
Again, the whole of the ball from another angle on 0:20 shows it crossed the line.
Weird and a bit spooky lol. I don’t know ‘scientifically’ how the technology has reached this conclusion.

4th January 2019 at 12:43 am #30822Even when frozen on 0:09. Notice too where John Stones’ right leg is.
Significantly, the white line markings show more thickness in width against the Bar of the Goalmouth, studying the footage when paused. The ball is in.
I know now exactly how Tennis players feel, and plus, VAR should be in place to be able to overrule this.
