If there is going to be an issue at Liverpool, it might be keeping the stars happy. Salah, Mane, Firmino might get itchy feet. not because they dont like Liverpool, but more likely Barca or Real madrid will come knocking. the argument for keeping them will surely be to continue winning and re-establish Liverpool’s dominance for a period of time. But the rumours of players being lined up suggests to me that there could be departures ahead.
Chances are everyone will stay, winning is infectious, but there might be some improved contracts needed.

3rd February 2020 at 1:07 pm #67422it could last years or just one, not to say they wont still be up there if it is only 1 but that consistant year after year efort is hard for any team with any stars and any changes in personell for any reason even just trying to freshen and upgrade in careful areas can lead to disaster for a team and performace….going to be such an interesting summer when you look at what teams need…

3rd February 2020 at 1:20 pm #67423Looking at the PL as it stands you would think currently that the PL will be dominated by Liverpool and City for the next couple of years everyone else is currently playing catch up and it will take time and a bit of good fortune in the transfer market to do that.
Of all the chasing pack the one I would be most unsure about is Spurs one because of Jose and how temperamental he can be and the fact that historically he’s always had a short shelf life two because I don’t think Levy will provide the level of funds that Spurs might need to elevate them to title challengers and finally I’m not sure they have the quality of young players coming through that might help them bridge the gap and that’s based on how successful Spurs have been at Academy level which has been not very over the last few seasons.
But Spurs have a decent squad plus Harry Kane and if they had a good Summer transfer market and Jose doesn’t implode too soon they could be up there challenging too.
I could make similar points of uncertainty about all the chasing pack including Chelsea and now it’s apparent that City also face a need to rebuild too and they also have the spectre of what punishment UEFA might hand down to them and what that may do to their plans as well as how long Pep might hang around currently no more than a season.
All in all if Liverpool hang on to the players they have and buy well with Klopp committed to the Club medium term we could see a period of Liverpool dominance. However it’s difficult to hold the level of commitment that they’ve had this season season in and season out.
We just have to hope that next season we have a real title race and not the current proccesion where the title was decided before we were out of January for that to happen City are the most likely challengers and the rest of the chasing pack would have to buy especially well, be fortunate in the transfer market and have a good level of young players coming through.

3rd February 2020 at 1:39 pm #67427Brian – I don’t disagree with what you (and others above)are saying. Life is about the probability of events occurring and managing associated risks so I’m merely suggesting that Liverpool is, on balance, likely to win the league again, and possibly extend that run. Obviously, it’s not a given and much depends on the response from others (including City)but, given current knowledge, that’s where I’m pitching my view!

3rd February 2020 at 1:55 pm #67428One team dominating is not a new thing, in fact, itβs the normal thing, certainly in the more modern era. Just look at much of the Ferguson era. The question we should be asking is why. People want everything now, in the present. Thereβs no patience anymore. Clubs are driven by greed, fear and ultimately irrationality. And the fans can be as much to blame as the owners. Fans demand big name signings, they get them, they fail, then they demand more. Itβs rooted in a pleasure seeking activity that is simply looking for the next βhitβ like a drug abuser. We can talk about Klopp being special, unique, charismatic, etc. And all thatβs undoubtedly true. But if you actually examine what heβs done, itβs not particularly groundbreaking. He has simply had the patience to wait for the right player, has learned more about the league and what he needed to adapt to it, and ultimately just enjoyed the ride and made sure all the players have enjoyed it and kept things together like a family. The blueprint has always been there, but like many things, others get strangled with fear and act irrationally. (Leicester are one team to buck such a trend). And fans get frustrated, and everyone else gets super rich off their backs. It is as I say, effectively a drug. Weβve got to snap ourselves out of such a mentality.

3rd February 2020 at 7:14 pm #67441Last year I remember saying city would dominate for years but that hasnβt been the case. They will be back much stronger next season. Their run after losing to Newcastle in jan was unreal. 100 points and 98 points in last two seasons. Itβs unreal and one of the best sides the pl have ever seen.
The rest of the pack is interesting. Utd need players but is ole the right man?
Spurs , arsenal and Chelsea need to be patient with their respective managers

3rd February 2020 at 7:52 pm #67442Agree Sean I know we’ve been here before but Clubs have to give Managers time.
Klopp had almost 4 years before winning the CL albeit he led Liverpool to 3 Finals prior to that he was well supported in the transfer market and bought the right players with several signings that changed the landscape for Liverpool of course it wasn’t all him there has to be a great team behind the Manager particularly in respect of transfers.
If all those things come together as Klopp and Liverpool have proved there’s half a chance of a Club being successful.

3rd February 2020 at 8:19 pm #67445Surrey blue….well I think you know me, always “out of the box” thinking and pragmatic with it as well, sometimes it is a curse. We are fortunate in having a club that has been dramatically transformed in such a way that at the very least we will commutative in everything we go after but that is not saying we win everything, every time, for me, the pleasure comes in watching the game, even loosing to Spurs and Utd we played some good football for Nil its. As to the future, what will happen will happen….cuts out the guesswork. Enjoy the game.

3rd February 2020 at 9:30 pm #67447I can’t quite match your longevity of watching City, Brian, because I started in the mid 1950s so I’m but a youngster. To follow City for such a time means that we’ve probably HAD to do so for the game – a few of us probably still can’t quite get used to events of recent years!

4th February 2020 at 2:46 pm #67472Surrey Blue..that is a long time as well. I think this season will my last though from a spectator point of view. I find late kick off and winter now difficult for me to travel a distance and I live in a Moorland community, roads are not great.
I will see this season out though, just about. You are right , The recent years have been good, I would say from Mancini’s era, Pelligrini I liked, Pep is great Management to day is far different from the old days, as are the players. Fans to day nowhere near the level of the 40/50s keep cheerful, its only a game_____________________________

10th February 2020 at 2:32 pm #68387AnonymousWell… got to hand it to the weather…. And the winter break… and the safety steward at city on the weekend. Not safe for players or fans so it was called off… no question the right decision, but when will the game be replayed and more importantly, will it mean a double game weekend for city and west ham for fantasy football boffs like myself at a future date? Fancy a double game captain with mahrez or KDB…

11th February 2020 at 6:22 pm #68443“Juventus are said to be willing to give ‘whatever it takes’ to bring in Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola next summer, with president Andrea Agnelli ‘convinced’ he is the man to help the Serie A side win the Champions League.
“Following the Italian giants’ 2-1 defeat to Hellas Verona last time out, Maurizio Sarri’s men now sit level on points with Inter at the top of the table. Saturday’s defeat was their third in the league this season, having also failed to pick up points against Lazio and Napoli.
Despite the fact that Sarri was only appointed in the summer of 2019, βThe Sβun are reporting that the Bianconeri are ‘desperate’ to bring in Guardiola, and they are willing to give him ‘whatever it takes’ to persuade him to join them in time for next season.
There are fears that current boss Sarri could miss out on the βSerie A title, fuelling speculation over his future.
A βJuventus insider told The Sun: “Andrea has never hidden his interest in Guardiola. Andrea thinks Guardiola will want to come to Italy when it is time to leave England. The question is whether this is the time but he will do everything he can to make it possible.β
Sarri currently sailing through stormy waters and with Pep yet to commit to a new contract at City we have 2+2 = 5.?

12th February 2020 at 8:18 am #68446Can see pep staying one more season and going when his contract expires
City are having a disappointing pl campaign but they are still in 3 trophies one which they will win already.
Laporte and sane are just about back for the cl game. Another nice draw in the fa cup which they will win
Itβs hasnβt been that bad of a season at all. I fancy city for the cl with two key players back.

12th February 2020 at 9:19 am #68447Think you’re probably right Sean and Pep will do at least next season but pressures building again on Sarri he probably needs a trophy at Juve.
