I think City need somebody in midfield in the Fernadiho role. Rodri is the obvious choice but he will need to move up a gear at least. Gungdogan does not fill the same role.. I just wonder if he will use Stones in that role and partner Dias with Laporte but Stone does not have the same vision or energy level for the game but maybe a new plan is about to be launched!!!!
Just trying to guess what Pep has planned, he knows now….I do not!!!!

21st July 2021 at 4:54 pm #181919Two of my Grandchildren, both girls and city fans, bought me a lovelocks present to day for my 87th knowing I will not be attending next season. This is a guided tour inside City stadium, something I have never done although been in the stadium since it was open. Really looking forward to it,

23rd July 2021 at 3:37 pm #181977I suppose i will get over it in time, IF, he keeps fit and scores goals like Augerro. What concerns me now…who is going in P/e because no way will be paying that in cash. Thecandidates
Laporte….Hope not, too good to let go
Sterling. Hope not, not my favourite but believe he will do well next season
Bernado….Hope not we have nobody else who can fill as many roles
Mahrez…maybe, but stated he does not want to go anywhere
Zinchenko..maybe
Mendy…yesAll will be revealed in the next week I believe, just hope we have made right decision

26th July 2021 at 4:39 pm #182036My two granddaughters finally took me on the City tour. It was interesting and nice t0 see the inside of the stadium where the players train and change. managed some nice photo’s with the girls as well Looked at the new pitch, which has not been played on yet and it looks amazing, supposed to last 11 years depending on number of games played. Visited the shop afterwards but everything was too expensive and in my view not value for money because I think the quality needs to be improved. Plenty of people buying so somebody has money. In our small group people from Burma, Taiwan and ARSENAL!!!!!

26th July 2021 at 5:56 pm #182039Brian, I expect the Arsenal fans were there to compare grounds, I would think theirs is probably the better ground, although the cupboard with all the shiny things in probably confused themπππβ¦β¦β¦..Pagan

26th July 2021 at 9:23 pm #182049Pagan…it cannot be much better than what I have seen, however, the best part of the City facility is not in the Etihad stadium but across the road in the Academy building and where they have 16 pitches including a full size one where EDS/Women play and seats about 8K I think..it is a remarkable complex and the gym facilities are fantastic. the ones in the Stadium are just pre match warm up areas, and medical rooms, for visitors as well. I guess all the new stadiums have improved over the last 5/10 years, Everton next in line, which looks impressive as a stand alone ground. The good thing City have is it is all very much together for all the teams and administration.. I do not miss Maine Rd, it was sad on the last day and I shed a tear but when I think back at standing in the Kippax on cold wet winter games, the new stadiums have it for me.many years ago I used to work in a Cotton Mill, now demolished in the immediate vicinity of the ground and I can still clearly remember climbing the turret Tower at the Mill and looking across in the direction of where the ground is now, The Gas works was the Locator and that is still there but all the terraces house have almost goneand new ones in place plus other notable amenities like the Velodrome and Athletics ground next to the City shop. The area has changed significantly, in part, due to City support with Manchester on affordable houses, a term I always find odd because you have to afford them to be in them!!!
As to Cups/Silverwear,,,we have some catching up to do but I think we have made a start, nothing comes overnight and at one stage Arsenal had to catch up with Preston, Huddersfield etc. Ha-ha who said the good old days playing in knickerbockers and the ref in formal suit and tie!!_____________________________

27th July 2021 at 9:01 pm #182077Just watched the City v Preston pre season warm up game. 2-0. City started with Dias, Ake Fernandinho, cancello, mendy and Mahrez the rest filled with Eds Players.. HT and 10 changes all EDS players on now. Goalkeeper took a bad injury, hope it is not as serious as it looked, but medics on pitch over 10 minutes. Sandler and McAtee I thought stand out players, very promising for City Fernandinho..what a player at his age and mixing it with the youngsters who were quicker but not smarter!!

31st July 2021 at 7:56 pm #182151Just watched City’s second pre season game against Barnsley. Another good performance from the youngsters, Liked Sandler at CB and Gomez in midfield. Of the seniors Ake, Zinchenko,(what little time he had}, Cancello Mahrez excellent and of course Fernandinho who always appears at danger moments and deals with it. The youngsters did tire and they were bundled off the ball a little too easily by tougher opponents but always fought back..a good sign.

3rd August 2021 at 7:58 pm #182217Just watched the last of the three pre season games. I am very impressed with some of the youngsters and some of these will become real first team players in a season or two. The movement and pace has been drilled into them, that was obvious but the “old man” stole the show for me, Fernandinho, I know he will be used sparingly this season but he is a joy to watch the way he reads a game
Mahrez , Cancello and Ake have had good pre season. Dias looks a little rusty
Gundogan continues to score goals_____________________________

15th August 2021 at 6:27 pm #182810CHUKY….what did I tell you…I thought it would have been 2-0 but will have to settle for the single . We have work to do, our passing no where near right but this is only game 1 and we always start poorly so look forward to better form. To day was never going to happen

16th August 2021 at 10:24 am #182841Tough luck Spurs away is never easy except for the occasional one and especially now that they have a top class manager, however for this game Pep should have started with his best 11 which he clearly did not.

16th August 2021 at 12:11 pm #182856I am not going to get unduly concerned about game 1. What is more of a concern is we have lost the last three games. 1-0 , forget the pre season games. This is not so much a defensive problem any more though although any team with the full backs we are using is a target for the opposition. We are missing David Silva more than ever. Gungdogan is being asked to do too much and Fernandinho is doing heroics for his age but cannot be used much more before resting. I welcome Grealish, not for the amount we paid but he brings something different up front. In some way, we are not using the same style of play we had, less about a striker because our recent history tell us we score from many positions over a few years not just last year. However that is not happening now and the loss of Silva is more pronounced, he always made the ball move forward so other players had to keep up. I am expecting KDB and Foden to change this for us in the coming weeks Sterling and Mahrez need to step up a few gears or be sold. I think we are well short of being Champions again and that is not based on 1 game, the squad we have is ageing and the youngsters not ready, apart from Foden.

17th August 2021 at 3:07 pm #182917I hope so Nine but looking at the “here and now” and what I saw pre season does not give me and confidence about finishing top but it is early days and I will reflect after 10 games to see how things are shaping up

20th August 2021 at 4:49 pm #183098I wouldn’t fret just yet Brian, many of the squad have had little or no pre-season due to participation in the Euro’s. We definitely haven’t started yet, I think just like last year its going to take 4 of 5 games before we are at the races; the issue will be if the other teams get a good lead it may be too much to claw back this year. Also, I wouldn’t worry about the squad age, we have plenty of young players in the squad – remember Sterling, Grealish, Rodri, Jesus, Bernardo, Foden, Torres, Laporte, Diaz, Ederson, Zinchencko, they are all under 26; with Stones, Mendy and Cancelo only 27, so its not as bad as all that. We also have one of the best youth academy set-ups and youth scouting systems in the world so lets not be too down. We lost to Spurs, and we looked tired and leggy, its to be expected, there will be a hangover from the Euros and from losing in the CL Final; we’ll get over it in a few games, chin up π On the plus side I’m really looking forward to being back in a full crowd at 3pm on a Saturday. Yesssssss.
Just hope we pull out of this stupid attempt to get Kane, walk away City, walk away.

20th August 2021 at 6:46 pm #183106Hi Mike, yes I agree with what you say including Kane, who I never wanted from Day 1, would rather go for a younger fitter player. I think we have lost Bernado and we will regret that over the season. Mahrez and Sterling need to step up and put some goal scoring to there game. I never have a problem with Sterlings effort but he is a frustrating player and should be scoring more. Mahrez..he is either on or off..thats it. I would like Laporte to stay but like Bernardo think he wants to go back to Europe. KDB fitness my biggest concern. Grealish should do well and get Foden back will make a difference, at least give opposing keepers some work to do. I hope Zinchenko makes it this year to be our best LB, I like his attitude. lets see how things develop over next few games

20th August 2021 at 7:06 pm #183111Mike, totally agree. Bit of an over reaction to the spurs defeat. City missing a good few players etc. Even if city donβt sign a striker, they are firm favourites for the league
