The CL like all cup competitions relies to a large extent on luck. For me the EPL is way number one.

3rd March 2021 at 4:46 pm #176264Agree with Blaze watching City games are something to look forward to whoever you support. I suspect most opposition fans bar perhaps some Liverpool and United fans feel the same.

3rd March 2021 at 4:55 pm #176265Ye city are a joy to watch
No nine well not me a year pal as the league was over weeks ago
City are going to be worthy champions
Sorry lads, it’s the league and the European cup all day for me
Two biggest trophies you can win. The league is the big one but city have won that countless times in the last few years
They have never been European champions and I guess a lot of fans would truly love that

Totally agree with you on that Adlab PL first imo although I love the FA Cup personally I would put the CL above it .
If Chelsea can’t win the CL this season and I suspect they can’t I would like to see City win it. I think they are currently the best team in Europe and because of the quality of football they are currently playing, there is a proportion of luck in winning the CL and if City get a fair slice of it I think they will win it.

3rd March 2021 at 4:58 pm #176267Adlab, ye pl is the big one but pep was brought into deliver the cl aswell
Every year he doesn’t win it, the questions will keep being asked
I think he’s the best manager in the world but he has had all the tools at every club
The cl is the one for him now and I think city will walk away with the trophy this season

5th March 2021 at 3:18 pm #176322Sean…does anybody take the “media” that serious? Full of “experts” in hindsight. I am also sure Pep will not loose any sleep on the fact he does not win CL with City as well. of course, he would like to, he is a top manager but it is a Cup competition and anything can happen and usually does. The EPL over its length tells me how good a team is, whoever they are, to win the EPL taks some doing

7th March 2021 at 6:31 pm #176417I think we beat ourselves to day, just not clinical enough. Have to give some credit to Ollie as well, he set out his plan and it worked to day. I thought Pep should have started with Foden and Bernardo, Sterling and Mahrez did not perform. KDB still a little under his best but at least he tried. Southampton on Wednesday will be an important bounce back game. On the whole I thought we played OK except for the finishing. Cannot complain about the early penalty either. We move on….next game

8th March 2021 at 8:32 am #176445City shot themselves in the foot with the early penalty which gave United exactly what they wanted something to protect and then counter attack at pace with City having to chase an equaliser.
That’s the United game plan and they executed it very well. City will bounce back though and still win the PL by some margin.

8th March 2021 at 8:58 am #176446I mentioned on the other thread about how I thought Utd just wanted it more yesterday. One thing I think that separates the sides which is often overlooked is the amount of academy players in each side.
A third (5 of the 14) of the players involved in the game from Utd’s side were from the academy vs the sole representative of City, Foden, who had a late cameo. While City clearly don’t need to take any lessons from Utd right now, I really do think there is something in that point when it comes to derbies, in particular. Henderson, Rashford and McTominay, all starters, played in the same youth team. A derby win is always going to mean more to those boys than anyone else.
If there’s one area I think City still can improve, it’s the pathway to the first team. There have now been a number of high-profile departures from the City academy, the latest being Eric Garcia. Charlie McNeill is a tremendous talent but felt the need to leave to join Utd. Why is that? Many will point to the superior quality in the City side vs the Utd side. Whilst true, that can never be an excuse for not making that pathway available.
In the grand scheme of things, it matters not one bit when City lift the title at the end of the season but I think it’s an area City can definitely improve in, regardless.

8th March 2021 at 10:20 am #176447Good points well made Ed, but Derbies tend to be tricky games to predict whatever form might point towards. However, hardly a surprising result yesterday as Utd has a very good away record and did to City what a number of teams have done over the last couple of seasons. I must admit that Utd were my best guess for the title this year as I thought City (where are the goals coming from?) and Liverpool (burnout?) might just struggle. Well, my musings are not yet wrong about Utd, but you’d probably still put your ten bob on City for the title. But something nags away at me saying if there’s a Club that can pull defeat from the jaws of victory it’s City!!

8th March 2021 at 12:56 pm #176450Yeah, that’s a fair point Surrey. Your money would definitely be safe on City this season, though 😁. Even if, against all the odds, City dropped enough points to let anyone back in, Utd aren’t anywhere near consistent enough to capitalise.

8th March 2021 at 4:22 pm #176456Ed..it is true, about Academy players. There should be a path and there is at City, however, they have to be found and brought in as and when ready. We will always loose a higher proportion, due to lack of playing time but that is the nature of the Academy system and while there are finances available to buy an established player. Other clubs will benefit from this without a doubt, but in general i would say City will just make the best of what they have. Garcia, I thought would have been a winner but it is no use keeping a player that wants to go home. Sancho…time will tell depends where he goes next. Delap may go, Tosin doing a grand job at Fulham. I am sure it will all be carefully managed but mistakes will always happen no matter who.

8th March 2021 at 4:27 pm #176457PS.. I would like to see Delap and Tommy Doyle go on loan to somewhere like Preston, Burnley think both teams would be OK for them and they stand a better chance of gametime. Preston because they could use them and Burnley they could rotate there squad more. However preston and Burnley would have another view!!!

10th March 2021 at 8:01 pm #176486Cityboy…must admit I thought it unusual but I did expect to see Fernandino back. Good game to night, think Southampton watch the game at week end when Utd came out of blocks quicker, they did the same but we got through this one. Fulham on Saturday will be no easier either, at least we have got some goals again.

10th March 2021 at 9:32 pm #176487Very entertaining game tonight. I thought we were poor in the first 30 mins and all credit to Southampton for taking the game to us. Had we gone in at HT 3-1 down instead of 3-1 up, we couldn’t have argued. But obviously Pep got in their ears at the break and we controlled the ball and hence the game much better.
All despite one of the worst refereeing performances I’ve seen this season. The Foden incident doesn’t need further comment from me as Graeme Souness said all that was needed at HT. And if the Vestergaard penalty was given, surely the left arm push on de Bruyne should also have been awarded. How John Moss is still on the ref panel is beyond me._____________________________

11th March 2021 at 7:35 am #176488Dreadful decision on the penalty which looked nailed on to me.
To Foden’s credit he tried to stay on his feet and round the Keeper. He won’t do that again.
