Ed, “I also think Chelsea are missing a trick here by not activating their buy-back clause after such an inconsistent season defensively.”
Completely understand where you are coming from Ed but I think Chelsea need a Koulibally type Centre Back dominant in the air but younger and a lot less expensive finding ones not so easy though.
I think Ampadu could come back to Chelsea and do a similar job as Ake and although he’s right footed he’s very comfortable with his left foot.

30th July 2020 at 3:48 pm #137041In addition, obviously there is nothing physically or mentally constraining for two left footers to play together, but as lefties are in short supply pretty much every time they play on the left. That could be an issue if both have spent their entire careers as the left sided centre back.

30th July 2020 at 8:10 pm #137210I still see no reason why 2 or three Lefties could not do the same job as 2 or 3 righties who have spent all there time on the right side.
Laporte has played LCB and CB
Otemendi has played CB.RB LB
Stones CB RB LB
Garcia. RB CB
Aka. I do not know enough about his positionsHowever, it is not about individuals but the reasons why left footed players cannot play together…I believe that they can do the job well. In fact when you look at the City team probably more left footers than right
We could discuss the point until the cows come home, what happens on the pitch next season is what matters and City have to reduce the against column of 35 this season despite the clean sheetsI think Stones and Otemedi maybe leaving though,if not now, at Christmas

1st August 2020 at 12:29 pm #138642A story about Left and righters, ..about me..hope you find of interest. 25 yrs ago when I was playing golf on a regular basis I had a serious back injury. The Surgeon said that was the end of my sporting activities. Two years later, I discussed possibilities with my Golf Proad he said..”let us try right hand playing”. After a year i settled to playing right handed. What is of interest is the a golf course looks entirely different between the two stances. I guess in some ways this applies to footballers on how they view the pitch as well, although when I played football , many moons ago I was mostly a leftie but could use my right and played anywhere I could get a game. LB was my favourite position….what did City miss!!!!!!! I also think this is the difference say between KDB and Sterling, one is naturally two footed without thinking about it. I know Sterling scores more but he should be at least 50% more if he did not think of which foot it should be….
back to lefties , I think you have to be a gifted player, left or right to play in a comfortable way, either position but I have never prescribed to the fact that a player accepts playing there because he can..or, selected .that is not to say he is good at it, equally, it is no good a footballer complaing he is “out of position”. The way footballers are trained to day with all the coaches there should be more two footed players which should produce more gifted two footed players like KDB and others Are will have a learning curve to go through but he is a good age to digest that plus he now has considerable PL experience in his legs. I know nothing about Torres other than he is a replacement for Sane_____________________________

1st August 2020 at 12:34 pm #138647As a PS. My last game was playing for the RAF Command team against N.I Police, now, I do not know if I was a defensive left winger or attacking LB but we were crushed. I had a lot of mud baths that day!!!!

1st August 2020 at 1:08 pm #138671Big differences between Torres and Sane is Torres is right footed and predominantly plays right wing, both opposites of Sane. He plays a less advanced wing role it seems than what city play. Read he is not got great numbers for the final 3rd but is generally more involved in the deeper build up play. Sounds less direct than Sane.

1st August 2020 at 8:45 pm #138994Must admit, first thoughts are Iβm not sure what questions Torres and Ake are the answers to. It could be that City must be pretty confident that the real difference makers are on their way.

2nd August 2020 at 4:35 pm #139772Surrey blue….you are on the right tracks….Pep knows who is leaving now and at Christmas,he also knows who he wants and prepared to fill the gaps now and wait…for whoever.I do see Ake as a good buy, he is still young enough to improve and has experience, think he will be OK.I just hope he is less error prone than Stones or Otemendi, but in saying that they also have some good points but in the next City configuration will not be good enough. Cannot comment on Torres. I wish Sane had stayed, however, things move on and he had improved more at City because he did lack consistency, his only problem

6th August 2020 at 9:23 am #143056AnonymousGood signing on ake. Think heβll be used in midfield and defence. Versatile player and fits peps type. Be interesting to see if city go for another defensive player, but I reckon ake is fernandinhoβs replacement.
Clubs making some interesting signings… and thatβs somewhere near 400 million on defenders for city under pep. I simply say blimey.
Challenging again next season Brian?

6th August 2020 at 12:12 pm #143128I would be really dissapointed if we did not challenge 442. Peps bill for defensive players does not fit in with the system he employs, after all we keep scoreing more than anybody else, just have to cut out the silly mistakes

6th August 2020 at 3:21 pm #143259I’m pretty sure City will be much closer challengers next season, they will be smarting at how poorly they defended the title last season, they will be active in the transfer race this Summer strengthening their squad whilst Liverpool may not be and they will hope they stay free of the serious injuries that hit them hard last season.
Surprised that Garcia wants away though and is refusing to sign a new contract with just a year to run.
A reaction to Ake or something else?

6th August 2020 at 8:36 pm #143473Garcia…was the player City would have signed from another club if that was the situation. The player has the final decision though and he probably does not see himself getting an automatic spot, I doubt he will at Barcelona as well but, heyho, thats the way it goes. I was expecting big things from him this season as well. This time last year I was not thinking of him in same way so who knows what another years brings forth. He is young and will blossom into a fine Cab. just sorry not with us

16th August 2020 at 10:48 am #152462I think Pep will be more upset than anyone, the players he selected should have done better, started too slow yet again and we missed a “beaver” like one of the Silvas and left too much reliance on KDB. This game was made for Bernardo and Foden in my opinion they had the skill and energy to do better than what was selected in my opinion but Pep trusted his selection and the players should have uplifted there game for this match. I never look at a defeat as the end of the world because there is too much happening inner world that is of more concern, so now, the season has finally ended, get a rest lads and try again.

18th August 2020 at 2:55 pm #154632Silva is one of the best ever players to grace both the City team and the PL nice touch by City imo. But I get where 442 is coming from it sets a precedent and what happens when Aguero leaves and what about former greats like Colin Bell.
Silva was a very special player for City though.
