Aguero is a massive miss for City.
Jesus is a decent back up but striker but I don’t think he’s up to being a regular at City striker is an area City will have to look at if not this Summer then next Summer for sure due to Aguero’s age.
This Summer I think Pep will bring in a replacement for Sane and then focus on bringing in a top quality Centre Back to play with Laporte and possibly a left back if they can buy one without encouraging UEFA to focus on them again something which they’ve been careful not to do over the last couple of seasons.

22nd July 2020 at 11:54 am #133069Better performance and should carry on this week end, we need all the practise we can get at shooting, I know we have 97 goals and we need another three for to 100 up but we still have to get them. Augerro….I doubt he will be first choice next season, we need to find somebody, Jesus is a hard working team payer but not a goal scorer, however Peps system also calls for contributions from more players as our record shows

22nd July 2020 at 3:44 pm #133124Nine…Garcia is putting in the minutes and is settling well, not the tallest CB but I could name a few CBs who have been brilliant who are similar height.Laporte is no giant either but a really good player. We have the lad out on loan to blackburn, I think, who may come into Peps thoughts

29th July 2020 at 4:20 pm #136379Looking to next season, I am no longer sure the clamour for another CB is top priority. The reason I say this is because Pep, rightly or wrongly does not see the game dependent on CBs. Our much maligned defence…35 goals, I think is just a few goals higher than Liverpools much respected defence. City have leaked goals by silly mistakes. The keeper has cost us 3 games not the CBs The wing backs cost us more than the CB.s. This is down to the system and how the players understand and perform to it. Pep will not have a big CB defending as his game plan. We do need a CB compatible with Laporte, I am hoping Garcia will be that person, if not as one of three CB’s.Full backs would be my priority, the ones we have, have been costly but I am not sure they are up for the job next season, Pep will want to improve both positions. Much will depend on how Pep wants to play, I suspect no major style changes just players doing things better. If we keep scoring goals at the rate we do then we will win more than we loose. This year, we lost 7 of the 9 games due to poor individual mistakes..that is what will be addressed

30th July 2020 at 12:06 pm #136939Good signing that. I’d have happily had him at Utd. Decent price, too.

30th July 2020 at 12:09 pm #136940I also think Chelsea are missing a trick here by not activating their buy-back clause after such an inconsistent season defensively

30th July 2020 at 12:31 pm #136950Tweet regarding this from Carra, does he have a point?
“I like Nathan Ake & I think he will suit Man City, but with Laporte a guaranteed starter I’m not convinced two left footed centre backs works? I know right footed players play together but it never feels right the other way round to me! Left back or a Back 3”

30th July 2020 at 12:37 pm #136954So his only logic, considering loads of right footed CB pairings work well together, is:
“it never feels right the other way around…”
It’s a bit of a strange point I think.

30th July 2020 at 12:45 pm #136959Anonymoused… perhaps Ake is being signed to replace Fernandinho, he can play across the back line or in a defensive midfield position. I always call him Gullit cause of the way he looks and sometimes plays. Long way to go before he is anything like Gullit though.
Good player and a good price for him… Lampard perhaps has memories of him when he was a player…

30th July 2020 at 12:49 pm #136961Correct Ed, although I cannot think of a Left-Left defensive partnership that has worked. Maybe Vertonghen and Alderweield? I would assume this is down to the fact there are far fewer lefties around anyway.

30th July 2020 at 12:52 pm #136964Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking. Difficult to name even a handful of left footed CB pairings so it’s unsurprising that successful ones don’t roll off the tongue.

30th July 2020 at 1:56 pm #136986Much better than paying close to £100m for a nearly 30-year old K2.

30th July 2020 at 2:42 pm #136999442…well the reason I support them is because I am a Manchester lad but I do like Chelsea and a few other teams. I think you have had a few of ours in the past as well.
Caragher, well he is notwell versed in LH player capabilities. It is only because he could not kick with his left foot maybe? No reason why it cannot work and some are natural gifted with both feet. As a pairing I think they will be OK with Garcia, also a two footed player….maybe a back three next season?
Threeps..you have answere your own question re lefties. There are so few of them but there is no physical or mental reason why they cannot play well together, both are excellent players, I do not know much about Age but Laporte has a strong mental strength and calm under pressure

30th July 2020 at 3:22 pm #137024Laporte is one of the best if not the best left footed centre back in the world
He is an excellent defender and has a lovely left foot
Great player

30th July 2020 at 3:30 pm #137030Good point by threeps re Ake and two lefties playing Centre Back although Ake is versatile and can play in 3 positions Centre Back, Left Back and Defensive midfield.
I think it was a mistake by Conte to have sold Ake and given some of the fees being quoted for Centre Backs it sounds like a reasonable price to me.
Following hot on the heels of trying to tie up the Torres transfer as expected City are looking to spend within their limits and not bring the eyes of UEFA on to them potentially that’s two players added to the squad almost paid for out of the Sane money.

30th July 2020 at 3:38 pm #137035Yup you’re right Sean, some reason I always thought of him as left footed.
I’m also with you Ake, not entirely sold on him. He is quick but it seems he has to be as his positioning is bad in the first place. He is little for a CB too, although some of the greats have been under 1.8m (Puyol, Baresi) but at a reported 71kg he doesn’t exactly cast himself as an imposing figure. I’m sure Pep will work on his positional play a lot.
