Can’t see the premier league doing anything – contrary to some wacky reports this morning – and I wouldn’t want them to.
Most fans now know that what they have strongly suspected is actually true. That city have been financially doping and their achievements are tainted.
I think many top clubs (including Liverpool) run close to the wire of the rules but you have to say that City’s sponsorship deals were flagrantly bent. I remember pointing it out on here several years ago for both city and Chelsea (albeit Chelsea may have been before the rules changed)

15th February 2020 at 11:04 am #69991If City do indeed receive any punishment then PSG should get 10x that. For being PSG 10x the punishment City get,and another 100x for signing that bitch Neymar.

15th February 2020 at 11:09 am #69995Especially since the City project mainly is about good PR for the UAE. And countries that violates human rights deserve no such thing. My Viking baconmunching,Ulrika loving,ABBA adoring,Bendtner worshiping friend Olaf, just pray & hope the evil Saudis dont take over Utd,then we will talk who is the biggest evil of em all.
mirror,mirror on the wall………….

15th February 2020 at 11:23 am #70002In the words of Yogi Bear, “Beni, Beni Beni”?, come on – “….city have been financially doping and their achievements are tainted”. Financial doping comes in many forms, including using debt to buy players, a course of action used by many clubs but apparently UEFA are happy with that.
As I have stated previously, City have been found guilty of breaking a UEFA rule. As it stands, they are to serve a two season ban from Euro competitions. My real gripe is that the rule is itself flawed and could be deemed illegal in respect of European Competition Laws.
So yes, I agree City have cheated but the point I am making (and IMO) is that they have cheated an illegally restrictive and questionable rule. And, as Martin Samuel reports, was only introduced to protect the interests of the cartel of ‘Old Guard’ clubs in Europe.
The case is going to appeal and, like Brian, that’s all I’m going to say on the matter until after the CAS judgement.
Actually, no it’s not, I just hope City don’t use the ‘technicality’ card to try to have their case overturned and that they have some real evidence. UEFA did accuse us of not fully co-operating so we may have withheld some for such an eventuality – the question is though, why would they withhold it? Who knows, all will be revealed._____________________________

15th February 2020 at 11:27 am #70004No Mav, be careful, you shouldn’t be “saying/writing” that stuff. I’d delete it very quickly. Silly boy.

15th February 2020 at 11:35 am #70009Totally agree with the chat about the whole FFP “Thing” is just a pretext for the “Downtown Abbey” clubs to cling on to past glories, said that from day one. And yes, I’ve also said clubs should basically be allowed to spend whatever the hell they want if the money was a 100% “gift” from the owners.
But if the rules have been broken, then they’ve been broken…

15th February 2020 at 12:08 pm #70025Personally never heard of the guy, Sean but he seems to write with some sort of agenda. I suppose that could be said about all journos but writing for the Irish Times, he’s probably a Liverpool or Man U fan, which may explain the agenda thing. Just my view, mind.

Adlab but a biased article in favour of city and I’m just putting something up myself
I see Oliver Kay is writing city should be punished.
Time will tell. I see some of their fine in 2014 was suspended when city admitted their guilt so I fully expect tvis be over turned

15th February 2020 at 12:18 pm #70028He certainly makes some interesting points… the most debatable being whether the whole “PR” thing was really worth as it is likely far more people know about what goes on the ME than they did 10/15 years ago. I can see the logic in suggesting that may have backfired a little bit.

15th February 2020 at 12:19 pm #70029Mav, mate, I’d stop being a fan of United if some regime from UAE, Saudi Arabia, North Korea or what have you bought the club. Not everything is equally good and it does matter where money come from.

15th February 2020 at 12:19 pm #70030Gjblues sorry I should of answered last night, but my view on why ffp rules were introduced is pretty boring and mainstream I’m afraid.
I think it was to stop teams simply buying their way to success by means of having a sugar daddy rather than money earned through correct management. To stop any more rich folk wanting the next City or next PSG as their new play thing and distorting the league by placing their team in a false and undeserved position. To stop screwing other teams out of titles and millions of cash that they would of earned otherwise. In short, to make the game fairer.
As said, pretty boring and probably echoed by many other supporters out there. But your idea that its anti Arabic sounds far more exciting, please tell us more.

15th February 2020 at 12:26 pm #70035AnonymousUltimately, the stakes are massive for both club and governing body.
I somehow see city lining up next seasons champions league because it’s probably in large clubs interests to bury this case under red tape.
I think the lawyers are the winners and fans will be the losers. I imagine real barca psg cfc among other monied clubs will all be watching on with interest. Perhaps talk of a breakaway league will renew itself again.
And both fifa and uefa need to continue to get their houses in order because who regulates them? The management of the game is a mess and hasn’t kept up to speed with the way club structures have changed.

15th February 2020 at 12:28 pm #70036Threeps, it wasn’t introduced for that reason. It was introduced in 2008 so clubs did not live beyond their means and getting into debt. PSG and Man City do not live beyond their means. They are very rich. In my opinion it is also a way to keep the rich clubs rich and at the top of their respected leagues. They don’t want competition.

15th February 2020 at 12:33 pm #70038Cheers, Threeps.
It wasn’t me who suggested it’s “anti-Arabic” mate, it was another poster – read back and find who – I can’t be bothered.
My view is similar to Martin Samuel’s in that it was brought about by UEFA, after being pressured by the cosy cartel of established clubs in Europe. I could name them but I think we all know who most of them are.
I respect all views and, in truth, our opinions would be difficult to prove._____________________________

15th February 2020 at 12:39 pm #70042Disagree Tuggers, that was the excuse they used to “sell” the idea… not buying for one minute the “Downtown Abbey” clubs suddenly all got warm and fuzzy on the inside and decided they needed to protect Portsmouth and Leeds!!
