Chucky no we canโt but there were not any rules limiting spending then and Chelsea spent cash. And it felt bloody amazing as a fan to get the best players money could buy. Seeing them play at Stamford bridge. Truly fantastic time.

15th February 2020 at 7:57 am #69904Chucky, Chelsea might have spent a lot of money but it was a while ago now and and you’re on record as saying you would have liked Spurs to have been in that position as it was then before FFP with a rich owner investing in the Club.
There’s a very big difference between spending a lot of money within the rules and what City are alleged to have done and since the introduction of FFP Chelsea have stuck religiously to working within rules of FFP.

This from a respected journalist tells it how it is, far better than me.

15th February 2020 at 8:09 am #69910threeps, no I agree with what you say but let’s not forget that we are all fans of our Clubs and how we would all feel in similar circumstances the City lads on here aren’t guilty of anything and they are currently having to deal with the biggest lot of brown stuff to hit any Club in the history of English football with an outcome that could have enormous ramifications.
The reality is that despite how bad it currently looks for City until this case goes before CAS none of us know what the real outcome will be and how far reaching it might be.

15th February 2020 at 8:18 am #69915I think it’s great if City are hit hard and are suspended. Especially since the City project mainly is about good PR for the UAE. And countries that violates human rights deserve no such thing.
I know that’s not UEFA’s agenda, but it’s a nice side effect. Unfortunately sports and politics are firmly connected.I do have sympathy for the City fans who have been fans of their clubs for decades though. Not their fault their owners are who they are and do what they do.
But looking only at the football side of it all: Can City keep their best players if the two season ban is final? They have an ageing squad as it is, can they get players of the same quality as before, if they can only offer domestic football?

15th February 2020 at 8:36 am #69923Itโs very simple. If city have breached the rules then they should be punished
If they havenโt then thereโs nothing to worry about and the ruling will be over turned on appeal.

15th February 2020 at 8:46 am #69930Entirely agree Sean. More to this than we know.
Why have they given a two year ban? So they UEFA think they can settle for onsBut please read the article. It expresses my thoughts better than I can.

15th February 2020 at 8:55 am #69935Ye he agrees with me adlab. City were fined 50m in 2014 aswell so is their 2nd breach?
I donโt really care what happens to city. Iโm not bitter like yourself when it comes to opposing clubs. I donโt look for exudes when my club has done wrong
As I said, if city havenโt done anything wrong then they will be cleared. If they have breached the rules again then they have to be punished

15th February 2020 at 8:56 am #69936Adlab, to paraphrase Brian, “Daily Mail, says it all really”.
I could easily counter the article from Martin Samuel with arguments from far more respected journalists.
Nine, I don’t understand your “we are all fans of football clubs” thing that you come out with when there’s something controversial to discuss. Should we all just come on here and pat each other on the back and say nice things? It’s called Footydebate, so lets debate, and if a City fan comes on here saying things like it’s an anti-Arabic agenda then I will pull them up on it. Don’t really care if that upsets anyone to be honest.
You’re right it could have major implications on City, but it already has had major ones on other teams too. The ones missing out on championships, missing out on the millions generated by the Champions League. Sorry but I have no sympathy for City or any fan that defends the situation, you cheated, you deserve what you get.
It could get overturned, but from what I can see City’s argument is that the emails were obtained illegally, not that they were false. That could be deemed as impermissible in a court of law, but this is a civil case so I don’t think that applies. Either way their titles will always be remembered as the ones won unfairly. Kind of puts a mockery on their #taintedtitle thing some City fans have going on this season!

15th February 2020 at 9:25 am #69948Have to laugh at the “it was discovered illegally therefore we’re not guilty” approach (it that’s true!).
One thing I reckon we can all agree on, lawyers are scumbags, even worse than Goonies!

15th February 2020 at 9:27 am #69949This is a victory for football. It hasnโt been done on a whim. This shows the reasons we all suspected for City doing well in recent years.
Feel sorry for their fans today, but they were happy to enjoy the ride and argue with anyone who pointed this out.

15th February 2020 at 9:30 am #69953tgreeps…I am not going to get into the others who post about anti arabic remarks either but the single point we all miss is EVIDENCE, not solely on how they were obtained but factual accountancy misrepresentation. Until it is finished in the Arbritation Court I will make no further comment. If City are found guilty, so be it, but we should not be judge and jury before then . Indeed, before the first Inquiry took place UEFA already pronounced sentence what kind of justice is that
I will leave it there

15th February 2020 at 9:43 am #69959threeps, the first line of my response to you agreed that it should be discussed on here in fact seemingly I was discussing it on here before you. ๐
I’m in Sean’s camp “Itโs very simple. If city have breached the rules then they should be punished
If they havenโt then thereโs nothing to worry about and the ruling will be over turned on appeal.”
Currently the evidence suggests City are guilty but CAS will decide if that’s the case and exactly how guilty they are and what the ultimate punishment should be.
I suspect the case will be heard by CAS fairly quickly given the ramifications for next seasons CL.
