They’ve got so much egg on their faces I’m expecting the phrase “UEFA Ommlette” to become a part of footy volcabulary… ๐

13th July 2020 at 11:02 am #128149I’m sure there’s no truth in the rumor that Roger Stone and O.J. Simpson are hosting the “We’re Innocent!!” Party…

13th July 2020 at 11:07 am #128151Only individuals who were involved in all this should be punished, not the team,players-they did nothing wrong.

13th July 2020 at 11:13 am #128156Joking aside, the 64 million dollar question is whether the FA are going to continue their own “investigation” into this, with reference to thier own rules?
Or will they simply come up with a similair excuse and drop all charges??
I know which one I’m putting my bottle tops on! ๐

13th July 2020 at 11:23 am #128160Chucky, I guess it depends on the FA’s own rules re time barriers. All best left there now imo given CAS’s decision.

13th July 2020 at 11:25 am #12816267, a tad harsh mate to suggest that the main charges had to be discounted because they fell outside of UEFA’s own timing rules. Poor by UEFA.

13th July 2020 at 12:08 pm #128178Stolen from someone writing in to the Beeb daily blog but made me giggle:
“Amazing to hear that City haven’t been banned because over 5 years have passed since their infractions. Lance Armstrong admitted to doping 7 years after his last title, maybe we should cut him some slack.”_____________________________

13th July 2020 at 12:09 pm #128179I must be one of the few non city fans not bothered by this in the slightest… various teams have cheated or used their wealth under whatever rule to gain advantage for decades…. the richer you are the easier to get away with
I know it doesnโt make it right itโs just how it is and has been tho ….my team have canโt say they have never cheated in some way
From the associations both works wide and domestic, mangers, clubs, players….. so many have done so much over the years this is just another thing and not the worst.
Makes pools win better …
Doesnโt make a fig to Arsenal
Lots of ways to look at this but honestly Iโm totally not bothered_____________________________

13th July 2020 at 12:29 pm #128185Overall, I think that itโs another example of accusers coming to grief if they fail to get their ducks completely in a row before they go public and waste time and money on trying to achieve the unachievable. This was in the full knowledge of what the reaction to its deliberations was likely to be. If UEFA had done its job properly there simply wouldnโt have been a ban and the resultant appeal.

13th July 2020 at 1:04 pm #128193Regardless of people’s opinion on all this, the question now is where do UEFA go? They have proven so incompetent and so are inevitably so much weaker, that I don’t think they can paper over their cracks anymore. I suspect that when news was coming out about City’s alleged wrongdoing, UEFA somewhat panicked and there were then cries inside that they had to “do something”. And whenever you have such a panicked situation, disaster usually follows. To now call themselves a ‘governing body’ is getting increasingly meaningless. I think they simply have to bow down to the clubs whilst making out they’re making decisions independently of them. Indeed I think this action UEFA took was a last ditch attempt to reassert themselves. But the seeds for all this were sown long ago when clubs became the playground of the rich, with UEFA trying to exert control they effectively gave up at the same time.

13th July 2020 at 1:14 pm #128195Surrey, cyber chum, we get that it’s your team and we’ll probably all say the same thing if it were our own (we footy fans are a fickle bunch at the best of times!) but have you ever read the e-mails in question?

13th July 2020 at 1:38 pm #128196Sweddy Eddy from Malmo-Sorry mate, but I dont agree re United or any other team “grassing” on any other team/s about breaking any rules.UEFA/FIFA should have their own mechanisms to finding out and dealing with these things. As for United, they shold be banned from bying players until the debt has been paid in full, and no player can earn more than ยฃ50k p/w.

13th July 2020 at 1:41 pm #128197Why is a person guilty just because the press want it to be?
Do you recall the persecution of Cliff Rochard?
Do you recall the lies against Ted Heath,Leo Brittan etc?
The press had already convinced the populus the allegations were true. But they were not.Why is it that despite everything and without ALL the facts some still have us guilty?
Eyes should not be on us but on theconstruction of UEFA and the influence of certain clubs looking to maintain a status quo.

13th July 2020 at 2:06 pm #128199Adlab, City fortunately got out of a very tight spot mate they weren’t innocent the fine was upheld for not cooperating with the investigation why would City not cooperate with the investigation?
The more serious charges would almost certainly have stood and led to the ban being upheld had UEFA not messed up completely overlooking their own 5 year rule, the e mails were incredibly damning.
The City Lawyers must have been rubbing their hands with glee when they uncovered that rule and realised that the 5 year time period expired.
It was always strange that City were so confident that the ban would be overturned given all the e mails now we know why.
City got away with one just be grateful for the good fortune.

13th July 2020 at 2:11 pm #128201Chucky, yes I have seen what the UK press has printed, and yes I am a City follower of many decades. But I’m trying not to be overly biased in my views as my posts on here over quite a while have hopefully demonstrated. I’m trying to point out that if UEFA had done its job properly then on this occasion there would not have been a ban on City, or any other club if faced with a similar situation. I think Mikus (1.14pm above) makes some good points.
I also think all those with an interest in football – and whichever Club they follow – would be keen on their Club not being hit with substantively false accusations and being faced with what were fairly draconian sanctions. It is vital that any accusations by any rule maker are completely bomb proof._____________________________

13th July 2020 at 2:17 pm #1282033×9 – lots on here about the damning nature of the ‘hacked’ emails. Nor convinced that emails – hacked or otherwise – necessarily provide conclusive evidence of wrongdoing, therefore and provide a rock solid basis for a prosecution. It can’t have taken City’s legal team long to debunk that particular point.
