2nd January 2020 at 4:24 pm #57746Sean, the whole squad has been terrible. Even the once incredible De Gea looks shaky this season making error after error. Singling out Maguire is pointless though. He hasn’t been amazing but there are plenty ahead of him in the queue deserving criticism. I was at the Newcastle game and he was pretty solid. I also watch every Utd game. Again, he hasn’t been amazing but nobody has.
This is what happens when a clueless coach gets given one of the biggest jobs in football. He has less than 30% win rate in his Utd career which is laughable. I’d love to be proved wrong about Ole but we’re jus gradually getting worse and worse. A win every now again against a big side keeps buying him a bit more time but that can’t last forever.
Turning on Maguire when the likes of Lingard get minutes is laughable and those fans should be ashamed of themselves.

2nd January 2020 at 4:45 pm #57747Ed lingard gets huge stick. Iβm not singling out maguire. He is the most exspensive defender in the world and heβs not repaying even half of his fee. Heβs been very average .
He should be under immense scrutiny because of his fee. It doesnβt matter if heβs not worth it or not. Admittingly in a defence that cost millions yet is absolutely Shite. Include de gea in that. He signed a huge contract but is riddled with mistakes
I totally agree about ole. He looks lost mate. I said it a few weeks ago when he was talking rubbish about utd turning a corner.

2nd January 2020 at 4:55 pm #57749Oh he talks absolute rubbish Sean every week. Said it all along. Perfect temporary manager to lift the club following the dark cloud Jose left but ridiculous long term appointment.
I completely understand you about Maguire. He hasn’t been amazing as I said. My point though is that I think he’ll come good with the right manager. Or more to the point, I’m not prepared to judge him after half a season under the worst manager we’ve had for decades, based on his win %.
The Leicester CBs get a lot of praise but they were absolutely terrible vs Liverpool.
You say he should be scrutinised. He should. He is. IMO, I’d still have him over every other one of our CBs every day of the week, though.
There’s a player in there with Maguire. Otherwise, Pep and Mourinho wouldn’t have been fighting over him. To me, he’s lacking in confidence for now and I’ll save judging him until he plays under a proper manager. I’m fine with you disagreeing with that

Heβs very good on the Ball dominant in the air. Maybe a new manager will pull the potential out of him

2nd January 2020 at 5:57 pm #57755The thing is that United can’t keep changing managers like that. I agree that OGS is in way over his head. He’s a likeable legend, but he’s not good enough for this level of management.
He should just go now, so the new manager can get the january window and the rest of this season to prepare for next season.
But I think the club needs to decide which style of football it wants the team to play. A clear club philosophy. Like Ajax or Barcelona. And then go all in for who ever fits the description. Since SAF left we have seen Dinosaur Dave Moyes, Ryan Giggs, Louis Van Gaal, Mourinho and now OGS. How the hell can you not end up in a mess when you hire different kind of managers each time? None of them could build on the work of the last guy in charge._____________________________

2nd January 2020 at 6:06 pm #57756Sean, I liked Smalling. He should have stayed ahead of Jones, Rojo and Bailly that’s for sure. I know a few people who still rate him as England’s best CB. Not that there’s loads of competition these days, mind. Maguire divides opinion though as some players always will. Carrick did for us. Henderson does for your lot. He’ll need to do more than most to earn adulation of the fans because of the fee. Fred is only just now earning his place in the fans eyes. He’s really growing on me.
Completely agree SRD. I’m a big advocate in keeping faith with a manager, but only when there’s reason to do so. Either that manager has done enough at another club or earlier in his Utd career to show he knows what he’s doing. Ole has shown no signs of being up to the job and we’re just delaying the inevitable by trying to show we’re different and give managers time.

2nd January 2020 at 6:14 pm #57759I don’t think United should have dismissed Jose when they did overall they’ve been no better and taking that decision in the Summer if that’s what they eventually decided to do would have given them 6 months to find the right man to replace Jose.
Now they’re in a difficult spot Ole is a club legend had a great intro and seemingly has the Boards backing to build a new young United. He’ll get until the Summer for sure but if things don’t improve the Board face a difficult decision then.

2nd January 2020 at 6:19 pm #57760Nine, that’s just it, though. Is it a difficult decision if things don’t get better? Ole had a higher win % at Cardiff, who he took down, than he does at one of the biggest clubs in the world. That should be a stupidly easy decision. Nobody ever won prizes for saving face. I don’t dislike Ole. I’d love him to turn it around but we’re making no progress whatsoever.

2nd January 2020 at 6:26 pm #57761Quite amusing to read the Man United fans on here, itβs a bit like reading the Chelsea sites over the last 15 or so years.
Foreign owners, revolving door on the managers office, player power, no footballing identity. Ken Bates was right when he said Manchester United will one day be known as the Chelsea of the North……Pagan

2nd January 2020 at 6:31 pm #57762One big difference Pagan. Your lot were bloody successful during the years you’re talking about. We’re in decline whereas your club were winning trophy after trophy during the years your door was revolving!

2nd January 2020 at 7:14 pm #577659s-If Jose was still @ United,we would probably had come in with a Β£50m bid for Willian,Β£30m in for Cahill,and a Β£40m bid for Giroud,lol.

2nd January 2020 at 7:32 pm #57767Thatβs because no one will bring in a new face to manage them, so we constantly get the same faces popping up, having short term success and then spectacularly failing, getting sacked and going back on the managerial merry go round.
I personally donβt think itβs a lack of them, just a fear from the top clubs to try to find them and taking a risk…..Pagan

2nd January 2020 at 7:48 pm #57768Not sure I agree with that Pagan. I think we’re seeing more and more risks by the top clubs in their managerial appointments. The likes of Allegri and Poch are being overlooked for Lampard, Arteta, Ole. Gerrard walked into a top job. Zidane got a huge job with little experience. Gattuso, Seedorf in Serie A etc.
