Why is nine off?
I thought we made Chelsea look better than they are – Liverpool are down to only 11 good players which shows the squad is too small and the players too tired

6th May 2018 at 8:27 pm #21397Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: “I hate the result but the performance was good enough to get a good point. It’s clear against Chelsea you have to avoid crosses, but the cross came in and it’s difficult against Giroud, and that’s the goal.
“Chelsea were strong but we did well and had a few good moments. But we weren’t clinical enough. The performance was OK but the result was exactly the opposite of what we wanted.”
“They had quality and a defensive plan. They played with eight men around the ball, and two very good attacking players. The longer the game goes on, it gets more difficult. We didn’t have space to cross.”
Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte. “I think we must be pleased because the players played a really good game and usually when you have to play a must-win game itโs not easy, itโs normal to be a bit nervous, and today was a must-win game, but not with a simple opponent, against Liverpool, who just reached the Champions League final,โ said the Italian.
โThey are very dangerous with the three strikers and itโs impressive the way they attack and have combinations between them. Today we must be pleased. I saw great desire and a great will to keep our Champions League hopes alive.
โI think we played as a team and not with only one player against Salah. Heโs a really important player but itโs not only Salah, Firmino is a great player and Mane as well. They have three top strikers. Theyโve scored 70 goals with these three players and reached the final of the Champions League. You can see great work from Jurgen, I think itโs right to give them a great compliment because they are a very good team.
โI donโt know if this will be enough at the end of the season but we have to try, and now we have to prepare in the right way for another tough game against Huddersfield. Today they drew against Manchester City, we want three points and I will probably make rotations because the players spent a lot of energy against Liverpool, but we must face the situation with great pride and we must show we are still alive.”

6th May 2018 at 8:43 pm #21400No complaints from me
If a month ago you asked me would I take beating Brighton to qualify for cl and be in a cl final I would have taken it
Last year we had to beat boro
The cl has taken a lot out of US. We donโt have a good enough squad to rotate
Chelsea have done really well in recent weeks. FairPlay to them

6th May 2018 at 8:56 pm #21401Sean, no matter what Chelsea do Liverpool will beat Brighton at Anfield. Top 4 are fixed mate. Be a bit gut wrenching though should we win our next two games to lose out on a CL place to goal difference but it’s our own fault we find ourselves where we do. Cheers 999

6th May 2018 at 9:04 pm #21403Full credit to Chelsea in consistently not giving our players time and space.
Moses, Alonso and Kante for them had excellent performances.
I’m not sure what our beloved was hoping to execute from selecting 5 natural defenders.
Wijnaldum is forever for me not somebody you can always rely on to exert authority and you can see why eventually, Henderson came on to accompany James Milner who himself was placed in the left-back area.
We need to build up on depth and speaking as I find, our bench is pants. We need game changers not players coming on looking frightened.

7th May 2018 at 9:19 am #21406Haha your funny nine, no matter what chelsea do Liverpool will beat Brighton. Much like how Liverpool will beat Stoke & Westbrom hey mate.
Reality is we have played ordinary the last 3 games & itโs because we have f all quality in depth & the players are totally shagged. IMO they are losing confidence & I can honestly see us drawing with Brighton, losing to Real & having no C/L football next season. It would be typical LFC, build up hope & optimism only to totally capitulate & end up with nothing.
The players arenโt all of a sudden going to get that spark & energy back. I see som saying oh we have a week between games now but as I said they wonโt all of a sudden get energised. I think they have been run into the ground due to lack of depth & I think itโs going to be 1 hell of a capitulation at seasons end. I think we will be in Europa next season & wont get the quality in depth we need to improve._____________________________

7th May 2018 at 9:29 am #21407It be no surprise Aussie mate but letโs have a bit of faith mate
We never ever do things the easy way. Iโm concerned about performances now but we have one game now to put it right before the cl final
If we mess up Sunday then I believe you will be right but I think we will have enough to beat Brighton
It does show the lack of depth in squad though

7th May 2018 at 9:34 am #21408You monkeys seem to be forgetting how bad the Spuds are playing too, they’re pretty much roasted… still looking relatively tight at the back so no real issues there, but the front 4, whoever Poncho’s picks, are all looking as flat as pancake at the moment.
With all the possession we had against the Baggies, there was only 2 decent chances created (pot-shots from 25+ yards don’t really count in my book!). It wasn’t Fosters busiest day by a large margin. Both Son & Lamela look like they have their towels on the beach right now, bloody well hope Lucas gets a start this week against Castle (who I can only hope have their towels on a beach too!).

7th May 2018 at 12:16 pm #21412AnonymousLook, if Sp*rs or Liverpool fail to get any kind of results in the last two, rest assured Chelsea will as well, we’ve been pants most of the season, lost 9 games ffs… I’ll be embarrassed but pleased if we scrape the CL spots… pleased simply because Spurs will forever be known as a message in a bottle. the message will say spurs are the greatest team of bottlers since glass was invented into a bottle. If Liverpool miss out… what will take place on social media doesn’t even bare thinking about.
Good luck to the spuds and Liverpool in next years CL… It’s nailed on lads and ladesses

7th May 2018 at 1:15 pm #21414Oz, let’s be honest mate if it all comes down to Liverpool needing to beati Brighton at Anfield on the last day of the season and Liverpool don’t do that then Liverpool don’t deserve to qualify for the CL.
The CL games and the injuries to the squad particularly in midfield has hampered Liverpool and maybe expectations have been a bit too high too because Liverpool are on the same number of points as they were last season with one game to go.
But Liverpool fans would have taken needing to win the last game of the season at home to Brighton to qualify for the CL before the season started and that’s what’s on offer.

7th May 2018 at 1:24 pm #21415Nine, most of us would have said if Liverpool can’t get a win out of games v West Brom, Stoke, Chelski or Brighton they don’t deserve to be there either & as unlikely as that scenario seemed here a couple of weeks ago we are 1 game from that being a reality. I wouldn’t be as concerned if the performances were good but we were unlucky or got bad refs decisions but reality is the players are stuffed & we have gotten progressively worse. From being 5 up v Roma at Anfield we have basically fell to pieces & I’m not very confident we can get back that spark. I can see a draw v Brighton & a 4-1 loss to Real in the final. As I said we have lost that swagger & spark due to fatigue & I don’t think we will get it back.

7th May 2018 at 1:30 pm #21416AnonymousYa, this is an actual crisis but I think more one of character rather than fatigue. That may be a part of it of course but it’s not like we’ve had serious fixture congestion.

7th May 2018 at 1:30 pm #21417Swagger is a great word, my Spuds have lost theirs too. Read a stat somewhere that said they had 14 attempts at the Baggies goal (and Baggies had 4, think I may have been watching Leeds vs Millwall or something!)… I remember the decent safe from Vicky, and the lucky save from Harry (don’t care how good he his, he wasn’t planning on using his nose to safe it!) but that’s just about it…
Suppose it’s fun for the neutral!

7th May 2018 at 1:57 pm #21419Oz, nothings changed mate Liverpool are great offensively but potentially vulnerable defensively they’ve had a great run in the CL but the draws were kind and although they played well v City they got the breaks across both legs of that tie and Roma were woeful in both games that’s not Liverpool’s fault though they can only beat what’s put in front of them. Plus the squad is currently looking thin and effectve substitutions are limited.
Next Sunday v Brighton Liverpool know to ensure CL football they have to beat Brighton and that’s why they will win that game but overall perhaps expectations have been too high becsise despite Chelsea’s poor season they’ve won more games than Liverpool.
I still think Liverpool have a great chance of winning the CL Final this is not a great Real team and if Liverpool get their mojo back and are on the front foot v Real they will have a great chance of winning the CL imo but the Liverpool of the past few weeks inc the one who played Roma in the week will probably struggle to beat Real and Real will have seen how best to play against Liverpool and how vulnerable they are to crosses.
Liverpool will have to bed at their offensive best and not make any silly mistakes defensively to do so even against this current Real team.

7th May 2018 at 2:07 pm #21422Mak, it’s more to do with the way we play mate. It requires a lot of energy to do it effectively & after so many awesome performances it looks to me like it’s caught up with the lads.
Yep nine definitely winnable but unlikely as it stands today. 3 weeks ago I’d be very confident but we have progressively got worse as the intensity in games has gone up. Injuries have killed us & our lack of depth has been badly exposed. I’d be stoked to get the win Sunday so I can enjoy the final because if we don’t I just know we will be playing Europa next season._____________________________

7th May 2018 at 2:09 pm #21423Yeah chucky, spurs had a great swagger there a month or so ago & looked very good. The trick is maintaining it & that’s where the likes of c$ty & manu have it over our lads, they have the quality in depth.

7th May 2018 at 3:15 pm #21424Too many players losing a bit of form at the moment.
Harry hasn’t looked quite right since the injury, apart from the Chelsea game Ali hasn’t been at the races since the CL defeat, Erickson hasn’t been bad at all, and I think too much rotation between Son/Lamela/Lucas has resulted in all three of them trying too hard if that makes sense (trying to beat the third man sort of thing).
Defense is okay, Jan the Man is playing out of his skin at the moment, best CB in the league over the last 10/12 games. Midfield always looks light when the Moose doesn’t play…
