“Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was wanted by Bayern Munich during the summer, is one player they won’t let go of, however.
The Blues will apparently point-blank refuse or ignore any offers made for him during January as Lampard still sees him as a big part of his plans going forward.” Express 12/12
442,most of the latest reports are in tandem with the above and the lad has had two really big injuries to overcome.
However if he’s going to make it at Chelsea he does need a run of games which isn’t easy given the strength of the Chelsea squad which probably won’t stand still but Chelsea have to be careful of another KDB situation. Time will be his judge.

13th December 2020 at 2:13 pm #171938Away to Wolves is not an easy game after the loss at Everton but a game we need something from ideally a win.
I would push Mount out wide right, Harvertz struggles a bit in in that position and Mount and James had a very good understanding in the recent England games. Perhaps bring Tammy back to lead the line as he has more pace than Giroud and Giroud has played quite a few games on the trot now.
Other than that and the Goalkeeping Coaches bending Mendy’s ear a bit about being a bit more careful with his challenges I wouldn’t make any other changes to the starting 11. Although there is a case for Gilmour starting with perhaps Harvertz coming on off the bench.

13th December 2020 at 4:16 pm #171955AnonymousI didnt watch all of the match yesterday, far from it but from what I did see, the crossing wasnt good enough to really make use of Giroud. At the same time, Werner is very wasteful so what do you do? Is Abraham a temporary option? perhaps and ya, I think your idea of Mount out wide is best, I’m surprised that Lampard put Havertz out there but I’m sure he has his reasons.
As for Wolves, definitely not an easy game but they just aren’t the team they were last season. Sometimes you can sell some of your best players and still maintain your level but that is just not the case with Wolves. The issue for them is their remaining stars know they can do better and they see the club actively diluting the quality of the team. What are they going to be saying to their agents?
I was surprised that everton beat Chelsea but thats football. i would be just as surprised to see Chelsea not beat Wolves, especially now that they know they have had a bit of a kick up the arse.

15th December 2020 at 8:21 pm #172147Sometimes you have to take the draw and not give a winner away by being caught out on the break.
Unfortunately Pulasic perhaps wasn’t up to 90 minutes.
Hopefully we can get back to winning ways next Monday.😠

15th December 2020 at 8:58 pm #172155AnonymousThat first sentence was everything to me.
Its easy to be critical but Lampard has got to have a word with his team about this.

22nd December 2020 at 5:36 am #172641AnonymousI’m very worried the club has spent a lot of my money on 2 Germans who look very ordinary so far especially Werner in front of goals, they don’t come much easier than those his currently missing in every game. Abraham for all his running without a head at least knows how to put the ball in the net. Giroud too.

22nd December 2020 at 6:19 am #172642AnonymousI had heard that Werner was wasteful, before he moved. That was when we were after him but I didnt think too much about it, given his return rate and the quality of some of his goals. Since then I’ve seen him miss some really criminal shots and it is something to be worried about for sure. I don’t know much about Havertz but it seems that he’s being played out of position, so I’d be more hopeful of him but in a long term way.
It applies to both that they need time to settle but ya, some of Werners misses have nothing to do with settling.
My understanding is that Klopp and Edwards were very much after these lads, it was just media nonsense. Look at their track record. They don’t go after rubbish, so if that’s worth something? …
How did Pulisic play this time around? I got a small return from him but he really needed something insane in order to convince me not to move back to Fernandez. If you lads are to be hopeful of a player coming good, I think he’s a good subject. Just hope he puts the injuries behind him and that Lampard plays him in a position where he can be effective.
On paper I think you lads have the 2nd best team in the PL. It’s hard to be patient when you’re looking at price tags but stay in there lads!

22nd December 2020 at 6:46 am #172643Amidst all the hype, I remember saying when Werner signed for Chelsea that I was very underwhelmed by him during the World Cup where big things were expected of him. He was very poor then. Still, he seemed to really kick on from there for Germany so he may just be a slow starter and needs longer than others to settle.
I didn’t know much about Havertz either. Both probably just need time to settle. If Lampard is the right man for Chelsea, then he’ll need to be able to coach these players and ensure they improve.

22nd December 2020 at 6:53 am #172644Agree Mak about Chelsea having the second best team. I had them down as second this season. Still a long way to go

22nd December 2020 at 8:10 am #172645Chelsea have one of the best squads. So many options
Werner is going to be a star once he gets his finishing boots on. Fast and direct and just needs time to settle
Havertz I’m not so sure about as he can only really play as a number ten
Silva has been a brilliant signing

22nd December 2020 at 1:15 pm #172666Agree with you on Werner Sean he’s also suffering from a bit of a lack of confidence and personally I think he would be better down the middle too.
Both Havertz and Werner are young and settling into a new country, a new way of life and a new League it takes time both will come good I’m sure you only have to listen to what Klopp’s said about both players. You don’t get to play regularly for Germany if you’re not a good player.

22nd December 2020 at 3:11 pm #172678AnonymousYa and it isnt just Klopp. The talk about Havertz especially was almost like Germany’s great white hope for the future. I don;t watch enough Chelsea to remember where he;’s being played but if i remember correctly, I think it isnt just Werner who is being put out wide, Havertz was too? If this is the case, I think Lampard really must find solutions where these lads can play centrally. Take all of what you said there Nine and then really focus on how you can help them settle. The one thing you can control is the position they are played in.
Not an easy job though as Lampard has so much damn quality that he’s somehow got to cram into a starting 11. I don’t envy his job, it’s Klopp’s nightmare. Im not even joking, this is one of the reasons why Klopp likes (or did typically) small squads. Of course Liverpool now have a pretty big squad too but that’s as a result of adaptation, rather than preference.
Any of you lads fancy drawing up your preferred 11 + formation? this is the time when a visual tool would be beneficial.

22nd December 2020 at 3:59 pm #172690Haaland would be an amazing signing Nine. He’ll cost an awful lot as all the top teams will be after him. You also have to be prepared to sell your soul a little if you want a Raiola player. He really is a horrible agent. I’d be quite happy to miss out on Haaland if it means Utd not dealing with him again. Hopefully, he’ll change his agent.
As for Rice, I just don’t see him improving Chelsea at all. He’s not better than Kante, for me. Never understood the hype around Rice.

22nd December 2020 at 4:00 pm #172691Someone like Haaland coming in would also surely spell the end for Werner playing centrally. So he’d be pushed back out wide where he’s so far seemed ineffective. Nice problem to have though!

22nd December 2020 at 4:10 pm #172692That would be the connundrum Ed. But you can never have too many good players and the Summer window is a long way away.
Re Rice as always beauty is in the eye of the beholder I’m a big fan of Rice.
Bring him home.😊

22nd December 2020 at 4:22 pm #172694Frank Lampard has warned his players against taking Arsenal “at face value” and believes the Gunners’ quality and wretched form will make for a “dangerous combination” when they meet on Boxing Day.
Lampard’s side moved back into the Premier League top five with Monday’s 3-0 win over West Ham to leave them unbeaten in three London derbies this season.
Arsenal, by contrast, have made their worst start to a season in 46 years, with eight defeats from 14 matches, ahead of Chelsea’s visit to north London.
“We’ve been in decent form [in London derbies] but I don’t think we should be taking Arsenal at face value,” Lampard said.
“With Arsenal, I see a team of great quality, a class manager who are in a tough moment. That’s a really dangerous combination to go against, so we have to prepare right.
“It can be tough [playing your rivals],” he added. “They’re all very challenging games, we saw that on Monday, with West Ham and obviously [Michail] Antonio not being around changed the element of it slightly.”
A Thiago Silva header and Tammy Abraham’s late brace helped Chelsea end a mini-slump of consecutive League defeats against the Hammers.
After visiting Arsenal, they host Aston Villa and Man City by January 3 and Lampard believes the season will continue to be unpredictable.
Asked if Chelsea were now looking up the table again, he said: “It depends on us now.
“The League’s been so tough, we’re seeing results every week that might surprise some, it’s hard for teams to sustain every week form or results that might be expected in different seasons. There’s a culmination of reasons for that. I don’t want to jump the gun, it’s up to us.
“But the games there in front of us, going to Arsenal on Boxing Day, Villa coming here two days later, there’s hardly a turnaround. Then City coming here early in the New Year. They’re really tough and it’s up to us to show that.”

26th December 2020 at 8:35 pm #172790We were lack luster today and Arsenal were quicker than us to the ball all over the pitch and the changes Arsenal were forced to make worked well for them.
The penalty if it was indeed a penalty which I don’t think it was was very harsh, James should never have tackled him and I was shouting at my TV don’t tackle him, the free kick was all but unstoppable and I don’t think Saka meant his goal but it was a sign that it was defined to be Arsenal’s day.
We’ve been off the pace now for a few games and the why of that needs carefully looking at by Frank and the Coaches which I’m sure they will be doing, we have a 25 man squad and you can’t cry about injuries because it’s a 25 man squad game now but this run of poor form seems to have coincided with the injuries to key players which appears to have unsettled us.
