Thought Chelsea should
gotten a draw against Liverpool everything went against us plus should have deservedly beaten WBA and Southampton that would have been 5 extra points._____________________________

18th November 2020 at 11:32 am #170336Nine..the trend has started..the game will change beyond recognition within 5 years…thats my view. Football is looseing the flow of the game and the over playing of games to satisfy commercial operations will be a heavy task for players. that is what we are beginning to see, even outside the CV-19 effect

18th November 2020 at 11:57 am #170337Brian, the Nation’s League replaced the previous friendlies given the current circumstances though they would have been better cancelled. However with them there aren’t lots of new games being played.
The problem is the condensed season and the top Clubs are playing weekly European games because of that it makes it three games a week with no breaks. European Club football returns next week.
They wouldn’t let race horses compete like this.
I’m sure there will be changes to football over the next 5 years I read today that FIFA are looking at how VAR handles offside for instance.
But the American companies aren’t about to takeover the PL the US is in a real mess currently and even if American companies did takeover the PL they couldn’t work to a different agenda in the PL to the rest of world football.

18th November 2020 at 12:33 pm #1703399, I donβt think that the PL has to be taken over by the Americans to become Americanised, I think weβre looking at how it will change to become more exploited for revenue.
The laws of the game state 3 subs, but weβve already seen that amended by the PL last season.
The laws say that the game must be played in two equal halves, but weβve also seen that worked round to incorporate drinks breaks. I would say somewhere along the lines there will be laws of the game with a caveat for rules of a competition inserted such as number of subs etc…..Pagan

18th November 2020 at 2:38 pm #170343Pagan, there were very good reasons for both those changes but they were temporary. I didn’t see either of them as Americanised just sensible.
Personally I don’t have a problem with 5 subs for this season given all the circumstances.
Going forwards I wouldn’t be against it either and I think it would be helpful if the PL was in step with the other major European Leagues but I respect all the Clubs in the PL having the right to vote for it or against it.

18th November 2020 at 2:53 pm #1703489, those two examples are to show that the laws of the game can be modified by competition rules. Although the 5 subs currently isnβt an Americanisation, if they were changed to roll in roll off as it is in the lower tiers of football then we may see offensive and defensive setups. The drinks breaks I can see being adopted as it gives the coaches chance to reorganise and obviously gives the broadcasters two additional add breaks…..Pagan

18th November 2020 at 3:17 pm #170349Pagan, as I said in my previous post “Iβm sure there will be changes to football over the next 5 years”
I’m not against any changes that might improve the game.
Drinks breaks in the PL when it had to complete the season in the Summer months was sensible but in a conventional season it wouldn’t be and I doubt it will return any time soon other than perhaps in some special circumstances ie a significant heat wave in August and September which would require players to take on extra liquids for health reasons.
None of us have a crystal ball to predict what any changes might be and I don’t have the time or inclination to try and predict/ debate what any future changes might be.

18th November 2020 at 5:07 pm #170350Nine..I have to agree with Pagan on this….The American Corporations do not have to take over any football organisation but commercial interest will always be the winner in the modern era.
20 minute periods have already been tried and tested in S.America I believe. I do not want to be all doom and gloom about this and you are right, none of us can know at this stage what changes will be made. I do ask myself though, if you could switch back 20/30 years as the game was then, would that be acceptable to day….probably not …but the game was then a spectator watch game, now it is analysed and watched by TV and because of the riseing cost to fans will become less attractive to watch. Just an opinion and thinking outside the box. (as the Americans would say)_____________________________

18th November 2020 at 6:16 pm #170358Brian, 30 years ago we didnβt have screens of stats or even an assists category, these came with the TV coverage and I believe were based on American TV sports coverage. Season tickets saved you money and included cup games, now they just reserve your seat.
Talking is statistics I remember Brian Clough being asked if he thought heβd have been a better manager if heβd had a system like ProZone to analyse players, he said βwe did, we called it our eyesβ…..Pagan

18th November 2020 at 6:24 pm #170361“An early attempt at live league football was made in 1960β61, when ITV agreed a deal worth Β£150,000 with the Football League to screen 26 matches; the very first live league match was on Saturday 10 September 1960 between Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers at Bloomfield Road.”
1970 Panel: Success for ITV
Brian Moore realised they had a hit on their hands, βwhen early in the tournament, the panelists went shopping together close to the studios at Wembley. It was Saturday morning. They completely stopped the traffic as men and boys β but mostly excited women of all ages β mobbed them.β The panel worked so well the BBC copied the idea. Thereβs nothing like opinion. The experts in the studio represented the same arguments going on in pubs and homes up and down the country.Given that the last flurry of posts including this one don’t have too much to do with Chelsea and given this is a Chelsea thread for Chelsea chat it might be a good idea from here to take further comments on all this to the General site.

Got to say, Lampard the player and Lampard the manager are two separate entities for me. He is adapting and there will be ups and downs, but the man will always be a legend for me as player. Any team that applies the same effort he delivered 90 minutes week in week out under his stewardship will get get my full support. It will probably end at some point but its lamps.. so brilliant until we part ways again. fingers crossed we remain competative this season and have a cup run or two.

19th November 2020 at 2:41 pm #170395Newcastle away the game is a 12:30 pm ko and live on BT Sport.
Chilwell was on the bench last night so hopefully heβs ok to start,
I very much doubt Silva will travel heβs had a 30 hour plus round flight to Captain Brazil v Uraguay and he will almost certainly be rested imo possibly with Rennes in mind next Tuesday. Rudiger to come in to replace him?
Newcastle away is always a tough game I expect Kovacic to play. Harvertz has returned to training on the bench perhaps? Pulasic not ready yet.
I expect the team v Newcastle to be close to: Mendy, James,Zouma, Rudiger, Chilwell/ Mount, Kante, Kovacic/ Ziyech, Abraham, Werner.
If there are any doubts about Chilwell I would expect Azpi to deputise. Chelsea without Silva, and Pulasic for this one.
From Frankβs pre match press conference.
Sounds like Frank might be concerned about Mount starting given him starting 3 games for England he will be assessed.
Lampard points to the increase in muscle injuries among Premier League players and says it is βclearβ the scheduling is a factor.
Lampard admits an away trip to Newcastle is not ideal after so many players being away on international duty and questions why the game needs to kick off at 12.30pm. βItβs absolutely not the optimum way for players to prepare for a Premier League game,β

19th November 2020 at 3:19 pm #170402Nine…no consideration given to players who have to travel long haul.. You have Silva we have Ederson and Jesus from the Brazil game. It is a big ask on these players. I think Liverpool have Firmino as well. They barely have time to unpack and re pack there bags. Crazy system

20th November 2020 at 2:42 pm #170422So ahead of the Newcastle game. No Silva, bit of a question mark against Chilwell,Harvertz travels after recently getting over Covid but is probably more likely to make the bench,no Pulasic again, question mark against Mount due to playing all 3 games for England thanks Gareth.π Gilmour not ready yet for inclusion in the squad, Werner didn’t train today??
More questions than answers but that’s what squads are for and there’s there’s no point complaining about it Frank will select the best team he can taking everything into account and hopefully that will be good enough.π€

21st November 2020 at 7:43 am #170444AnonymousDifficult game for us today. Think we’ll struggle a little… If Wilson is fit, he likes playing against us, then difficult afternoon… Agree with number of games 9… its really a scheduling issue, teams should just not enter first team squads to carabao cup and quite wh internationals are taking place is beyond stupidity, here’s why, players are picking up injuries, no doubt, but the very value of cup competitions in the summer without the top players just weakens them.
