First time Iβve seen a Chelsea game where itβs almost impossible to name a MOM because there were just too many candidates.π

2nd November 2020 at 1:23 pm #169562AnonymousWe looked so more fluid without Jorghino and Kovacic in the middle. Ziyech looks an exciting prospect and im not sure when we’ll get it right with the zippy one touch pass play developing out the back, but not many teams will be able to press when it clicks. Lots of positives and a few clean sheets right now so moving in the right direction.

5th November 2020 at 10:55 am #169700AnonymousSo it would appear communication is key with a defense. Last season we had a Scandinavian, German, Spanish, French and English speaking defenders.
This season, we have french speakers taking the spotlight so far in our run. Coincidence that we look more solid with Mendy, Silva, Zouma, Silva experience is proving invaluable.
Well done so far to the management team on the recruitment.

9th November 2020 at 6:12 pm #169998“Following their win over the Blades, Chelsea are up to 5th in the Premier League table, and just three points off top spot as we head into the international break.
Chelseaβs summer recruits also finally appear to have been fully integrated, with the switch to a 4-1-2-3 formation, along with the introduction of Hakim Ziyech, key factors in Chelseaβs recent success.
After his side were comprehensively beaten on Saturday, meanwhile, Chris Wilder was full of praise for Chelsea β voicing the opinion that the Blues look the most likely outfit to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool in the English top-flight this season.
However, on the back of Wilderβs comments, Frank Lampard has moved to temper expectations somewhat, stating that his side now need to produce on a consistent basis, before insisting that he will not get too carried away:
βWe have to prove ourselves as the gap has been too big now for the level of consistency with two of the best teams in both world football and in the modern era in the Premier League.
βSo, we have to understand where we are at and be humble about that. We are in a nice moment this weekend. It is nice for [Sheffield manager] Chris [Wilder] to say we have played well today, so thatβs fresh in all our minds.
βNow it is whether we can produce it regularly. Thatβs the next question of us. I wonβt get too carried away.β

9th November 2020 at 7:39 pm #170006Watched a bit of the game the weekend, Ziyech was a breath of fresh air, like most of the Chelsea players heβs very good at the tippy tappy stuff, but he also is able to be very direct, which I think is something Chelsea have missed over the last couple of seasons….Pagan

10th November 2020 at 3:12 pm #170034“The Senegal international has made eight Chelsea appearances so far in all competitions, keeping six clean sheets in return and bringing a real calmness to the defence.
Heβs conceded just one goal in his opening four Premier League games and is a big part why the team sit fifth in the table during the international break, with just a three point deficit to the top.
Sutton has named Chelseaβs new first-choice goalkeeper when asked his Premier League signing of the season:
βEdouard Mendy. Chelseaβs big problem was their goalkeeper kept chucking βem in. Thatβs now stopped,β Sutton told the Daily Mail.
βIβm not saying Mendy is the greatest keeper in the world, but heβs helped Frank Lampard out of a jam and he cost Β£22m, which is change down the back of the settee for top-flight clubs.β
Whether Mendy is or isn’t the signing of the season he’s definitely helped settled the Chelsea defence along with Thiago Silva.

16th November 2020 at 6:19 pm #170298These international breaks are always a bit of a worry the last one cost us Mendy and probably the loss of two points v Southampton this one so far Chilwell has been injured and thereβs still a game to go.
Chilwell has to be thoroughly examined by the Chelsea medical team and we have to wait and see what comes out of that hopefully some intense treatment at Cobham might overcome the injury in time for the Newcastle game.
If not both Alonso and Emerson are more vulnerable defensively than Chilwell so he would be a real miss particularly as he’s playing so well. Azpilucueta can play left back and do a decent job defensively.
Whatever happens I suspect Frank would try and keep any necessary changes to a minimum and will probably want to stick with a back four v Newcastle rather than go with 3 at the back.

17th November 2020 at 12:11 am #170308AnonymousYa but with PL players seemingly being pushed beyond limits, it’s probably best to wrap him in cotton wool because you never know who might get injured in this coming match.
As for Mendy, I only watched him play 1 time this season but he earned you a result that day, whatever game it was. Maybe it was 2 times, I cant remember if he was in goal when we played you lads. He’s just what the doctor ordered isnt he. I had what i think would be a similar feeling when we signed Alisson. Coming in after just this massive disaster of a player and to then get a keeper who actually goes beyond what you could have hoped for, it’s just great.
Not much mentioning of Chelsea challenging for the title, it’s all City, Liverpool or Spurs from the media. there’s even been the odd mention of Leicester but only because they’ve done it before. They have trailed off a few seasons since but Chelsea are dark horses.
Now, I’m not going to start building expectation or anything, only saying that I’ve got my eye on ye π

17th November 2020 at 8:38 am #170309Mak, unfortunately Mendy wasn’t in goal v Liverpool and as well as Mendy Ziyech, Silva, Chilwell and Pulasic were missing too. All 5 in the team that day and who knows? π
I’m not sure about the title but hopefully Chelsea might be a bit closer to Liverpool this season than 33 points. Cheers 9’s

17th November 2020 at 8:48 am #170310Re Chilwell
Tweet below from Matt Laws who is close to all things Chelsea gives a little bit of hope for his chances v Newcastle. π€
“Little update on Ben Chilwell. His issue last night was a back spasm. Player hoping it’s not a big issue and that it was brought on by the travelling but needs to see how it settles. Can’t see him being involved Weds night for England.”

17th November 2020 at 9:37 am #170311AnonymousNine, I’d happily put last season’s Liverpool against that side but as for doing it right now, well you can get ****ed π That’s entirely in jest BTW.
Before the injuries even started stacking up for us, Liverpool were just not themselves anyway but Chelsea was a good game, in between a few kinda off colour performances. You never know, the sense of responsibility due to these injuries may motivate and inspire us to step up a gear…
I see that southgate is calling on the PL to reconsider : https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/12134453/gareth-southgate-england-boss-wants-premier-league-to-reconsider-using-five-substitutions
I know it’s not too popular with some on here but I’ll repeat my opinion on this and now that other teams players are starting to drop off in larger numbers too maybe they will begin to agree soon :
The PL need to step in and I don’t mean by offering a vote. They have to lay down the law.

17th November 2020 at 11:30 am #170312Mak, Kepa in goal, Christansen getting sent off, Kepa gifting a goal to Mane and Jorginho missing a penalty kind of spoilt the game for me!π
You’re wise though to beware of dark horses.π

17th November 2020 at 11:37 am #170313……Re the 5 substitutes I think it makes sense particularly for this season because the season is so condensed. Interestingly though two of the main protagonists in the 5 substitute discussions in Guardiola and Klopp only used 3 between them in the City v Liverpool game?

17th November 2020 at 4:26 pm #170314Nine…it is the option to use them but if all going well ..why bother? They say when you are winning the game is easy and less rest required…I am not convinced about that. I do not have any problem with 5 subs…..for this season only….but it will creep into the game and may become more when we are Americanised in “soccer”!!!!!!

17th November 2020 at 6:40 pm #170322I don’t think the PL will become Americanised like you and one of two other on here do football is a worldwide game . Like you though I would plump for 5 substitutes this season. Will it swing around in that direction personally I think it’s unlikely now Turkeys don’t vote for Christmas and that’s what needs to happen but we’ll see.

17th November 2020 at 7:03 pm #1703239, Turkeys donβt vote for Christmas, thatβs only true if theyβre earmarked for dinner, but with Americanisation the Turkeys are not only off the menu, theyβre getting a bigger present.
I would think that the laws of the game will remain fairly constant across the globe, but rules for competitions may change if the rewards are there….Pagan
