“Whatever happens against City in the next game things have probably gone better than any Chelsea fan dared hope for so far this season given all of the circumstances.”
999 I can think of one that could no doubt try to pick it all to pieces and find a downside but it appears we will never find out because Willian is now beyond criticism. Unless something dramatic happens and everything uncoils it looks like we have seen the back of him.

14th November 2019 at 9:05 am #52828The only way Chelsea can get at least a point at City is by playing on the counter. City will push the fullbacks up high. As i said in my previous post, fill the central areas with bodies when out of possession forcing City wide and encouraging their full backs up the pitch, then let Pulisic Willian Abraham do the damage in the transition phase (like we did when we beat City 3-1 under Conte, just don’t let KDB get another sniff of an open goal this time).
999, you know it the originator of “Chelsea will be up there in 2 years time” was actually Merson. He went 1 step ahead and said Chelsea will dominate for years to come, while i hope that is true, I think Liverpool will still be there under Klopp. With City, Guardiola may have left by then…

14th November 2019 at 9:21 am #52833yes agree. I would have thought once Fergie left United and things unravelled there, a whole bunch of their glory seekers (for example the Martial Art) would have migrated across the City to City. Appears they are honourable and accepting of mediocrity. The few City fans here around must be loving it, especially those that have supported City all their lives. Reminds me of the pleasures we experienced with Roman’s arrival and beyond. Neither club will ever look back now. The stone is set.

14th November 2019 at 9:37 am #52837Agree with Amz if Chelsea are compact and play on the break we’ve got a chance of getting something although I think this game will be the toughest of our season so far because City will be determined to bounce back.

14th November 2019 at 2:08 pm #52841It will not be an easy game by any stretch of imaginations. whether City lost to Liverpool or not is irrelevant. playing City at home is always a tough match. what Guardiola does is that he overruns teams in midfield, and once you lose the midfield battle that is as good as the game has gone from you. Klopp new this and prioritized the midfield battle more than exploiting their weak defence. and once Liverpool midfield stood on their ground, gaps began to appear between the City midfield and defence. and that is where Liverpool have exploited apart from the first goal which was a wonderful goal. and that is what we need to do. our midfield need to stand its ground and force City to make errors. it’s not an easy task but it can be done as Liverpool has shown.

14th November 2019 at 2:15 pm #52842AnonymousNine, you’re right, I was being a tad bit unkind to City. Only when I said they might win by quite a few even, or words to that effect. I do still think Chelsea will beat them. Yes, their main weakness is Pep not buying a 4th CB. How often have Liverpool been forced to use their 4th choice one? Quite a few times over the years!! Madness to not have a 4th and think that pulling one of the best DMs in the PL out of his most influential role to cover the space is somehow an answer. They’ve also been very unlucky with injuries. Besides the defence, they have a better squad than anyone else, to deal with this though.
That isn’t where the problems with City stop though. They’ve generally won games and dominated many but at times they’ve looked nervy and against us, between the moments of brilliant movement and shows of technical ability, they seemed to be cracking. Last season, they had the mentality to win I think it was 14 games in a row at the end of the season, with us breathing down their necks winning the last 9. That shows strength of character and mental toughness…. I don’t see the same traits in this seasons City team.
“I wouldn’t write city off so quick. I tvibk they will beat Chelsea, utd, arsenal and Leicester. People think these are the games city will slip up in but I fancy then to win them all.”
You’re right about me writing City off, I definitely am not for the title, I just rate Chelsea higher right now. I agree that City will beat Utd and Arsenal. I’d give Leicester a reasonable chance against anyone in the PL at the moment. Maybe they aren’t quite there yet though? I think I have to watch them a little more and see what on earth is happening with Perez.
Sean though, I’m not entirely sure what a cyber pint represents? Honour? Whatever it is man, yer on! Whatever about the other teams, I feel Chelsea have the match of them or better right at this moment. I think things can be complicated by our own result. Away at Palace is a bloody nightmare and if we drop points, they’ll be fired up (not trying to back out of anything, just a reality). If we win, the pressure of meeting another top top side and potentially being 12 points back might just be too much for them. I will say this, they can thank the God’s or their goat that it’s a home game!!!
Now…. why oh why does it have to be 2 weeks away.

14th November 2019 at 4:31 pm #52848“Jadon Sancho has discussed idolising Chelsea duo Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba – and some of the Blues supporters on Twitter are extremely excited about his comments.
Borussia Dortmund attacker Sancho has been on record several times to reveal he supported Chelsea as a child, which is why many fans want him to end up at Stamford Bridge.
According to the Telegraph, the 19-year-old is one of the players that Frank Lampard’s side are interested in signing after their transfer ban ends.
He is a skilful right-winger that has taken the Bundesliga by storm in recent time and also forced his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
The speed machine has four goals and eight assists in 16 Dortmund games across all competition so far this season.
Sancho has named two Chelsea icons as two players he used to look up to, which has caused great excitement from a selection of Blues supporters on social media.”
Not sure how much truth there is in the above or what the other Chelsea lads on here think but imo he would be welcome but he would have to fight for his place.?

I’m not sure if i agree with you on Sancho there. we have better wingers at the club. Pulisic is a better player both finishing and technique. so spending £100m on him is not an option for us. not even half of that. on top of that we have Hudson Odoi who can be as good as him if not better. and Lampardnis the right man to guide him. at the moment i would like us to get a fullback. Chilwell is very much welcome, him and James could be our TAA and Robertson?.

15th November 2019 at 8:51 am #52894We should definitely get Sancho.
Wingers would be CHO Pulisic Sancho. I’d move Willian to CAM and fight it out with Mount while also being able to play in his natural RW position when needed. Willian’s best performances have been when he’s been in a more central role. This is the role he was playing when at Shakhtar
CHO really needs to step up, so far he has not produced an eye catching performance. He has come back from injury so obviously needs time, but if we don’t have competition for places, players can just dip in form and not be worried.

15th November 2019 at 9:27 am #5290067, it’s just paper talk mate we’re definitely going to lose Pedro and there are question marks against Willian without we agree a new contract so we’ll need to strengthen that area sooner rather than later. Given our overall needs though and the players we have in the squad I suspect we wont be looking to spend £100m plus on Sancho.

15th November 2019 at 12:13 pm #52920AnonymousNot sure i get all the Sancho hype. Pedro needs to be replaced. a more than capable player on his day, just never been able to consistently maintain his excellent game standards he hits on inn every four.
Willian looks settled, again, hope he does things consistently and evenly over this season.
Im just really interested to see where Lampard thinks we need to improve. This squad has the potential to improve and as ive said before, i think its going to be very difficult to find players who will fit and gel with the young guns. How do Ajax do it? might be a good pointer..

15th November 2019 at 12:19 pm #52922they have less options than Chelsea as less cash ad less competitive league, top club yes but they wont go and buy expensive players, the odd older pro to help thekids seem to be there way but most clubs wouldnt touch them….
sometimes its easier when restricted like you are now, the real test for Frank will be in the summer and buying the right players and keeping the current lot happy…but then thats why he gets paid the big bucks!

15th November 2019 at 3:14 pm #52973I can only see Frank making a few strategic signings to strengthen the team/ squad.
Frank seems interested in a left full back? We will probably need an additional striker at some point as Giroud will depart in January or the Summer, probably a wide player to replace Pedro and possibly Willian too and personally I think a creative midfield player to unlock belligerent defences might be helpful. It might take more than next Summer to achieve all of the above though if that even matches the Club’s thinking.?
I trust in Big Pete, Frank and Marina to make the right choices though.
