What a summer to be a Chelsea fan! I know we just won the PL but I’m honestly a bit jealous at the players you’ve gotten in the door. You guys already had a really good attack but now it’s going to be one of, if not the best around. You’ve also strengthened your defence, which had to be done.
I can’t wait to see how good Werner and Havertz are. It would have been better if we signed them and not someone else but it’s good for the PL. The top 2 situation was getting boring and unless either ourselves or City drop way off, it’ll not be a big m2 season, with Utd also improving too.
I guess you can’t replace your whole team in a single window but if I were Lampard, I’d get rid of Kepa too.

6th September 2020 at 6:42 pm #165825I think it will take a bit of time to bed the new players in and we won’t probably see the best of Chelsea until the second half of the season. Still need a Keeper imo. But you’re right Mak with who we’ve bought, what we had already and players still coming through from the Academy it’s an exciting time to be a Chelsea fan.

The deal is almost done. 👍
Edouard #Mendy is the first choice for Petr Cech and will be the new goalkeeper for #CFC. @SkySport
#Transfers ⚽Another piece of the jigsaw?

8th September 2020 at 10:19 am #165869Nine Chelsea fans have right to be excited mate. I think it’s a great window. Still , even brilliant players can sometimes have issues settling etc. There is no guarantee these guys will be a success.
I think the majority of them will be a huge success as they are genuinely top class players but it’s going to very interesting to see how Chelsea get on.

8th September 2020 at 12:05 pm #165872Absolutely Sean exactly what I’ve been saying about the new players needing time to settle look at Pulasic we didn’t see the best of him until the second half of the season and I don’t think we’ll probably see the best of Chelsea until the second half of the season.
But these aren’t buys for a season TS apart Chelsea are buying young and looking past this season the next 5 years looks very bright with what we’ve got already, what we’ve bought and what we’ve got coming through.

8th September 2020 at 12:09 pm #165873“Chelsea are reportedly set to complete the signing of Edouard Mendy in a deal worth £18 million, with the 28-year-old arriving as competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.
According to the reliable Matt Law of Daily Telegraph, Chelsea are highly confident of securing the services of Edouard Mendy, who will become the seventh summer signing for the first-team. The Senegalese goalkeeper will cost the Blues in the region of £18 million, with Rennes ready to part with him.”Matt Law is usually a very reliable source for all things Chelsea related but we’ll see.

8th September 2020 at 1:03 pm #165881Who is buying/green lighting all these players at Chelsea? The board or the manager? You need a strong commanding manager in that dressing room if this is all to work well, along with a strong identity.

8th September 2020 at 4:05 pm #165887Mikus, Frank is on record as saying that everyone is on the same page regarding Chelsea recruitment this Summer and allegedly Frank himself has played an intrinsic role in convincing the players of the Chelsea project where he sees them fitting in in that project and how he wants them to play for him and the majority of the signings have said that coming to play for Frank played an intrinsic part in their decision to come to Chelsea.
In terms of character Frank was a decent player who turned himself into a great player through sheer hard work spending hours and hours of extra time on the training pitch he also played just days after his Mother’s death in a CL game v Liverpool scoring a penalty to take Chelsea through to the Final showing incredible strength of character. Ultimately he led Chelsea to winning the CL.
As a Manager with just one years experience managing in the Championship Frank led Chelsea in his first season in the PL to a top 4 place and an FA Cup Final despite the loss of the PL’s best player and despite not being able to buy any players because of a transfer ban along the way he dropped the Club’s record signing, dropped a World Cup winning striker and dropped Jorginho for an 18 year old Billy Gilmour.
The two things Chelsea don’t have to worry about this season are Frank’s strength of character and his leadership ability he’s proved throughout his career he’s got bucketfuls of each both as a player and now as a Manager!

8th September 2020 at 4:09 pm #165889“Rennes captain Damien Da Silva admits Edouard Mendy ‘deserves’ to join Chelsea as the goalkeeper closes in on a move to Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard has been keen to recruit a new goalkeeper this summer following Kepa Arrizabalaga’s poor form last season. Chelsea are now understood to be close to agreeing a £25 million deal with Rennes for Mendy. And Da Silva admits Rennes’ players are reluctant to see the Senegal international leave the club.
‘We are a little selfish, we don’t want to lose Edouard Mendy but it’s part of football and the transfer market,’ Da Silva told Telefoot. ‘He’s a great goalkeeper who deserves what happens to him.’ Edouard Mendy is set to join Chelsea in a £25m deal According to reports, Chelsea have agreed to pay an initial £18.2m fee for Mendy but the deal could rise to £25m after add-ons. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been a standout performer for Rennes, who have qualified for this season’s Champions League, facebook.”
Sounds promising lads?

8th September 2020 at 4:24 pm #165891We’ll see Nine. I’m yet to be convinced about Lampard the manager. Also both Man Utd & Chelsea were fortunate that Leicester collapsed last season.

8th September 2020 at 4:47 pm #165892You could say the same about Klopp in his first full season Mikus although effectively his second season at Liverpool when Liverpool finished 4th just a point ahead of Arsenal having finished 8th under Klopp the previous season and we’re knocked out in the 4th Round of the FA Cup.

8th September 2020 at 6:41 pm #165896AnonymousI don’t think anyone can say they are convinced by Lampard yet, in any meaningful way. That isn’t at all to take anything away from him either though. he did very well though in his first season of management and that’s all he could have done really. Time will tell if he’s got the chops for it and that’s the point of what I’m saying, time.
The signs are good though. Chelsea play some very decent attacking football and sure, it won’t be easy to get them all playing the way he wants, not to say they won’t start with all guns blazing though either… and they do have quite the armory.
If I were a Chelsea fan, I’d be asking myself if my team had a chance of challenging for the title any time soon and the answer so far is “very possibly”. I mean, as far as attempts to set themselves up for such a task, they’ve bloody nailed the transfer section.
Leicester did collapse but Chelsea and Utd definitely improved as the season went on. I won’t rule Leicester out of doing something similar this season but my eyes have shifted over to these Utd and Chelsea sides. Both managers have questions to answer in the coming season. if you were to ask me which one would come out smelling better, I’d say Lampard, as I don’t really rate Ole. I think Fernandez might be papering over the cracks but you never know, he may have needed a player like him in order to show his capabilities…
Anyway it’s all prattle until we’ve seen another season, maybe another 2 TBH.

9th September 2020 at 8:44 am #165919Mak, a very balanced view.
I think most Chelsea fans expect Chelsea to challenge for the title in the next few seasons Glenn Hoddle certainly does and that was before the Summer spend.😊
Personally given what we had, what we’ve bought and what we still have coming through I would be disappointed if we didn’t.
Frank is a Chelsea icon and massively respected by all Chelsea fans but ultimately he will be expected to deliver further progress and a title challenge and he’s smart enough to know that and he has already spoken about greater expectations now.
As with all Managers time will be his judge. Cheers 9’s

9th September 2020 at 12:20 pm #165926AnonymousMak… I was critical last season before CFC appointed Lampard. I thought defensively we’d struggle and at times we did.
The staff have obviously targeted a few players to replace pedro, Willian and compliment our attacking options. We were guilty of not putting the clear cut chances away last year and that did cost us points and games.
We still havent addressed the defensive frailties as far as im concerned. Silva is a stop gap signing and I hope his experience rubs off on the younger players, but the EPL is an unforgiving place and I think we could watch him struggle in games unless he has pace alongside him.
Kante should be back to full fitness this season with some luck so perhaps we’ll have cover in front of the defence and concede less.
Weve had a brilliant summer, hope the season isnt disrupted or stopped this year, either way, Im right behind Lampard because he’s just brought back an energy to the club.
