the 1999 born star! suppose we are no longer referring to players by their actual age. why couldn’t they just say 21 year old.

26th August 2020 at 1:16 pm #161703AnonymousI remember he was on the pitch at final whistle… Was he doing a JT moment… My bad. Clearly my memory is going. Still think it’s unwise to sign someone like him. But hey, lets see if it goes through.

26th August 2020 at 3:47 pm #161704AnonymousI would keep Sarr at the club. because he has attributes that our other centre backs don’t have, he is a left-footer CB. i think we should keep him.

26th August 2020 at 6:48 pm #161709Analysis – Foxes’ shrewd business model
Ian Stringer, BBC Radio Leicester
Chilwell joining fellow Foxes Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante at Chelsea continues a model of selling one of their ‘stars’ every year since Kante left for Chelsea in 2016.
Drinkwater followed him to west London in 2017, Riyad Mahrez went to Manchester City in 2018 and Harry Maguire joined Manchester United in 2019.
It balances the books and allows reinvestment for Leicester – on what is not a bad return at all. Those five players cost a total ยฃ24.1m. Leicester sold them collectively for ยฃ250m over four years – and still finished above Arsenal and Tottenham last season. Shrewd.

26th August 2020 at 7:06 pm #16171150m for chidwell shows c19 hasnโt kicked in for transfers yet as thatโs an awful lot of money w full back
Very good player and a signing Chelsea badly needed.
Iโm suprised no one is in for Ryan bretrand these days. Heโs a smashing left back and should be in the England squad

26th August 2020 at 11:43 pm #161734AnonymousBen Chilwell has been signed, and I’m happy that it was done. he is an England international, at 23yrs and has his whole career ahead of him. we have done business with Leicester twice before this one, the first one we had won the deal, the second they have won. don’t know how this one will turn out. but the way Chilwell spoke, it seems that he is confident. and he has been smart enough to select Chelsea because he knows there is an opportunity here. plus there some players he knows plus the manager is English. and I’m also told players like to live in London.
But, the role that Lampard has on the transfers is proving to be very crucial. all of the three players we have signed his mentioned once they spoke to him they wanted to come to Chelsea. there are rumours that Havertz wants to play for him because he feels he is a similar player to Frank was in his playing days. and he feels he will learn a lot from him. also mentioned was the Chelsea transfer unit of Petr Cech, Marina and Morris who are working behind the scenes. that is according to Skysports.

27th August 2020 at 6:39 am #161736Chelsea have signed England left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester on a five-year deal for ยฃ45m.BBC Football
Frank wanted him and Chelsea got him for a lot less than the ridiculous ยฃ75/80m that it was speculated Leicester would want for him so well done to Marina.
Excellent going forwards so he will add to Chelsea’s attacking play but still questionable defensively imo and that’s something he will need to work on.
Hopefully Harvertz and Silva aren’t far behind and bar a Keeper? That looks like Chelsea done in this window before a lot of other PL Clubs have really got started.

27th August 2020 at 8:03 am #161740Young Blue, this quote from Chilwell confirms what you have said about the role Frank is playing in these transfers.
“I am delighted to be joining Chelsea at this very exciting time for the club and the manager played a massive part in me signing here,โ said Chilwell.
โI think every player wants to play for a huge club in their career and Iโm no different, but talking to Frank before I signed really made up my mind that I wanted to come and play here.”

27th August 2020 at 8:38 am #161741AnonymousGood signing, im not sure how good he is defensively, we will find out, either way probably a substantial improvement on Alonso and Palmeri’s defending. Who are no both surplus to requirements, who will, when sold cover Chillwells fee. Jury is out on Silva for me if he signs… in frank we trust.

27th August 2020 at 9:09 am #161742Anonymous442 – its a good signing but I don’t think alonso and emerson will cover the fee. alonso has gone significantly backwards and emerson was just a poor signing in the first place. they’ll probably make up about half the fee which is still a good deal.

27th August 2020 at 9:15 am #161744That’s the going rate for a top fullback in this market Sean. He’s definitely better going forwards than he is defending but he’s easily England’s best LB and he can no doubt improve that aspect of his game. I highly doubt he’d have been let go for that price pre-covid but fair play to Chelsea for capitalising on sides needing to cash in.

27th August 2020 at 9:39 am #161745Ye the going rate two years ago Ed
Thought we might have seen a full bsck fir a bit cheaper with c19
Chilwell is not even worth 50m in my opinion but Chelsea have the money
Heโs a good player. I get what your saying

27th August 2020 at 9:49 am #161746AnonymousPax… TBH… Agree with you on Alonso in a back four, totally different beast when a side sets up with three at the back. Victor Moses, exactly the same as Alonso, didnt really cut it as a winger, but who knew he’d be such an effective wingback. Conte was also good at getting ever last drop of blood from his players.
Top four and a champions league place helped swing the decision. Just as well we crossed that line.
Pax, What’s happening with Rose? Is he going to have a Renaissance this season under Jose? Good player and full back when his head is in the game.

27th August 2020 at 10:58 am #161748Anonymousfair points on alonso. as an attacking threat he’s very good but but offers very little at the back. think chilwell is similar but offers more defensively. although alonso always has a blinder against us so wont be too sad to see him go.
not too sure about rose. he didnt exactly set the world alight at Newcastle and don’t think he is the right character for jose. very outspoken and critical which is in some ways refreshing for a professional footballer but not ideal under jose. i would much rather we just went and got someone else in as neither rose or davies are good enough. looks like we might be getting in doherty from wolves which would be a great signing.

“Inter are close to signing Emerson Palmieri from Premier League club Chelsea according to a report in todayโs print edition of Italian daily newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.”Not sure we will sell both Emerson and Alonso but we have got the promising young Dutch lad and the Centre back lad we’ve just signed on a free can play left back too so you never know.
